一八

1 パウロは、アテネを去り、コリントへ行きました。　2-3 そこで、ポント生まれのアクラというユダヤ人と知り合いになりました。　この人は妻プリスキラと連れ立って、最近イタリヤから来たばかりでした。　彼らは、クラウデオ帝が、ローマの全ユダヤ人の追放令を出したため、イタリヤから追い出されたのです。　アクラも、パウロと同じ天幕作りの職人だったので、パウロはその家に同居し、いっしょに仕事を始めました。
今からは外国人に
4 パウロは安息日ごとに会堂に出かけ、ユダヤ人だけでなく、外国人をも説得しようとしました。　5 シラスとテモテがマケドニヤから来てからは、全時間をユダヤ人の説得に費やすことになり、イエスこそキリストだと証言しました。　6 ところが、ユダヤ人たちは反抗し、侮辱を加えるばかりか、イエスのことまで、ひどくののしるではありませんか。　もう我慢はできません。　パウロは、彼らときっぱり縁を切るしるしに上着のちりを払い、こう言い放ちました。　「おまえたちの血の責任は、おまえたちに降りかかれっ！　私のせいじゃない。　これからは、外国人を教えよう。」
7 その後パウロは、テテオ・ユストという外国人の家に泊めてもらうことにしました。　この人は、外国人ながらも神を敬う人で、うまいことに、隣が会堂でした。　8 会堂管理人クリスポの一家は、ほかの大ぜいのコリント人と共に主を信じ、バプテスマ（洗礼）を受けました。
9 ある夜、主は幻の中で、パウロにおっしゃいました。　「恐れるな。　語り続けなさい。　やめてはいけない。　10 わたしがついている。　だれもあなたに危害を加えることはできない。　この町には、わたしにつく者が大ぜいいる。」　11 パウロは、一年六か月の間、この町にとどまり、神の真理を教えました。
12 しかし、ガリオがアカヤ地方の総督に就任すると、ユダヤ人は徒党を組んでパウロに反抗し、力ずくで総督のところへ引っぱって行き、　13 「ローマの法律に反するやり方で、神様を礼拝しろと教える不届き者です」と訴えました。　14 パウロが釈明するより早く、ガリオが口を切りました。　「いいか、ユダヤ人諸君。　犯罪事件なら、諸君の訴えを聞きもしよう。　15 しかし、これは何だ。　ことばの解釈とか、人物批判とか、諸君のばかげたおきてに関する事ばかりではないか。　そんなことは、自分たちで始末をつけるがよかろう。　私にはどうでもいいことだし、かかわりになりたくもない。」　16 これだけ言うと、ガリオは、さっさと人々を法廷から追い出しました。
17 暴徒どもは、腹立ちまぎれに会堂の新しい管理人ソステネを捕らえ、法廷の外で打ちたたきました。　しかしガリオは、そんなことには、まるで無関心でした。
18 このあとも、パウロはコリントにとどまりましたが、しばらくすると、クリスチャンたちに別れを告げ、プリスキラとアクラを連れて、船でシリヤに向かいました。　パウロはこの時、一つの誓いを立てていたので、ケンクレヤで頭をそりました。　そうするのが、ユダヤ人の習慣だったのです。　19 一行がエペソに着くと、パウロは、二人を船に残したまま会堂へ出かけ、ユダヤ人たちと議論を戦わせました。　20-21 「もう少し、いてくださいませんか」と頼まれましたが、そんな余裕はありません。　「せっかくですが、どうしても祭りまでにエルサレムへ行かなければならないので、ちょっと......」と断わるほかありませんでした。　機会さえあれば、また必ず来ると約束して、一行は船旅を続けました。
22 やがて、船はカイザリヤに着き、上陸したパウロは、まずエルサレムの教会を訪問し、皆にあいさつしてから、アンテオケに向かいました。　23 アンテオケにはしばらくいました。　そのあとまた、トルコへ行き、ガラテヤとフルギヤ地方のクリスチャンを訪問しては、励ましのことばをかけ、信仰の成長に役立つ話をして回りました。
24 そのころたまたま、すばらしい聖書教師で、説教者としても有能なアポロというユダヤ人が、エジプトのアレキサンドリヤからエペソに来ました。　25-26 アポロは、エジプトにいたころ、バプテスマのヨハネのことと、ヨハネがイエスについて語ったことを聞いた以外、何も知りませんでした。　それでも大胆に、また熱心に「メシヤ（救い主）様がもうすぐ来られます。　お迎えの準備をしなさい」と会堂で説教しました。　プリスキラとアクラも、その力強い説教を聞きました。　二人はあとでアポロに面会を求め、ヨハネの預言以後、イエスの身に起こったことと、その意味を正確に説明してやりました。
27 アポロの希望はギリシヤへ行くことでした。　それには、クリスチャンたちも賛成です。　大いに励まし、ギリシヤのクリスチャンに手紙で、アポロのことをよろしくと伝えました。　ギリシヤに行ったアポロは、神のためにいかんなく有能ぶりを発揮し、教会を励ましました。　28 また公の場では、ユダヤ人たちをみごとにやり込め、聖書のことばを引用して、イエスこそキリストだと証明しました。イエスの名によるバプテスマ

Acts 18

1 After these things he departed from Athens, and came to Corinth.2 And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome: and he came unto them;3 and because he was of the same trade, he abode with them, and they wrought, for by their trade they were tentmakers.4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.5 But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was constrained by the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.6 And when they opposed themselves and blasphemed, he shook out his raiment and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.7 And he departed thence, and went into the house of a certain man named Titus Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.8 And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.9 And the Lord said unto Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak and hold not thy peace:10 for I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to harm thee: for I have much people in this city.11 And he dwelt there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment-seat,13 saying, This man persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.14 But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked villany, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:15 but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves; I am not minded to be a judge of these matters.16 And he drove them from the judgment-seat.17 And they all laid hold on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment-seat. And Gallio cared for none of these things.18 And Paul, having tarried after this yet many days, took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence for Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila: having shorn his head in Cenchreae; for he had a vow.19 And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.20 And when they asked him to abide a longer time, he consented not;21 but taking his leave of them, and saying, I will return again unto you if God will, he set sail from Ephesus.22 And when he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and saluted the church, and went down to Antioch.23 And having spent some time there, he departed, and went through the region of Galatia, and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples.24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the scriptures.25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spake and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John:26 and he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more accurately.27 And when he was minded to pass over into Achaia, the brethren encouraged him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him: and when he was come, he helped them much that had believed through grace;28 for he powerfully confuted the Jews, and that publicly, showing by the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
