پولُس در قُرِنتُس

1 پس از این، پولُس آتن را ترک گفت و به قُرِنتُس رفت.2 در آنجا با مردی یهودی، آکیلا نام، از مردمان پونتوس آشنا شد که با همسرش پْریسکیلا به‌تازگی از ایتالیا آمده بود، زیرا کْلودیوسِ قیصر دستور داده بود که یهودیان همگی روم را ترک کنند. پولُس به دیدار آنها رفت،3 و از آنجا که او نیز مانند ایشان پیشۀ خیمه‌دوزی داشت، نزدشان ماند و به‌کار مشغول شد.4 او هر شَبّات در کنیسه با یهودیان و یونانیان مباحثه می‌کرد و می‌کوشید آنان را مجاب سازد.5 چون سیلاس و تیموتائوس از مقدونیه آمدند، پولُس خود را به تمامی، وقف موعظۀ کلام کرده، به یهودیان شهادت می‌داد که عیسی همان مسیح است.6 امّا چون با او بنای مخالفت گذاشتند و ناسزایش گفتند، به اعتراض، غبار جامه‌اش را تکاندt و به آنها گفت: «خونتان بر گردن خودتان! من از آن مبرا هستم. از این پس، نزد غیریهودیان می‌روم.»7 سپس از کنیسه تغییر مکان داد و به خانۀ تیتوس یوستوس رفت که شخصی خداپرست بود و در جوار کنیسه منزل داشت.8 امّا کْریسپوس، رئیس کنیسه، با تمام اهل خانه‌اش به خداوند ایمان آوردند. همچنین بسیاری از اهالی قُرِنتُس چون پیام را شنیدند، ایمان آورده، تعمید گرفتند.9 شبی خداوند در رؤیا به پولُس گفت: «مترس! سخن بگو و خاموش مباش!10 زیرا من با تو هستم و هیچ‌کس دست خود را بر تو دراز نخواهد کرد تا گزندی به تو برساند، چرا که در این شهر مرا خلق بسیار است.»11 پس، پولُس یک سال و نیم در آنجا ماند و کلام خدا را به آنها تعلیم داد.12 امّا هنگامی که گالیو، والی اَخائیه بود، یهودیان همداستان شده، بر سر پولُس تاختند و او را به محکمه کشانده،13 گفتند: «این شخص مردم را وامی‌دارد خدا را به‌شیوه‌ای خلاف شریعت عبادت کنند.»14 چون پولُس خواست سخن بگوید، گالیو به یهودیان گفت: «اگر جرم یا جنایتی در میان بود، می‌بایست شکایت شما را بشنوم.15 امّا چون مسئله بر سر کلمات و نامها و شریعت خودتان است، پس خود به آن رسیدگی کنید. من نمی‌خواهم دربارۀ چنین اموری داوری کنم.»16 پس آنها را از مقابل مسند داوری راند.17 آنان نیز همگی به سوسْتِنیس، رئیس کنیسه حمله بردند و او را در مقابل مسند والی زدند. امّا گالیو هیچ اعتنا نکرد.

بازگشت پولُس به اَنطاکیه

18 پولُس پس از اقامتی طولانی در قُرِنتُس، با برادران وداع کرد و از راه دریا عازم سوریه شد. در این سفر، پْریسکیلا و آکیلا نیز همراهش بودند. او در کِنخْریه سر خود را تراشید، زیرا چنین نذر کرده بود.19 چون به اِفِسُس رسیدند، همسفران خود را ترک گفت و خود به کنیسه رفته، با یهودیان به مباحثه پرداخت.20 از او خواستند مدتی بیشتر با ایشان بماند، امّا نپذیرفت21 و با ایشان وداع کرده، گفت: «اگر خدا بخواهد باز نزد شما خواهم آمد.» سپس سوار کشتی شد و اِفِسُس را ترک گفت.22 در قیصریه از کشتی فرود آمده، به اورشلیمt رفت و پس از دیدار با کلیسا، راهی اَنطاکیه شد.23 چندی در آنجا ماند و باز عازم سفر شده، در سرتاسر دیار غَلاطیه و فْریجیه جا به جا می‌گشت و همۀ شاگردان را استوار می‌کرد.24 در آن ایام، فردی یهودی، آپولُس نام، از مردمان اسکندریه، به اِفِسُس آمد. او سخنوری ماهر بود و دانشی وسیع از کتب مقدّس داشت؛25 در طریق خداوند آموزش یافته بود و با حرارت روحt سخن می‌گفت و به‌دقّت دربارۀ عیسی تعلیم می‌داد، هر چند فقط از تعمید یحیی آگاهی داشت.26 او دلیرانه در کنیسه به سخن گفتن آغاز کرد. چون پْریسکیلا و آکیلا سخنانش را شنیدند، او را به خانۀ خود بردند و طریق خدا را دقیقتر به وی آموختند.27 چون آپولُس قصد سفر به اَخائیه کرد، برادران تشویقش کردند و به شاگردان نوشتند که او را به‌گرمی پذیرا شوند. چون آپولُس بدانجا رسید، کسانی را که به‌واسطۀ فیض ایمان آورده بودند، یاری فراوان داد.28 زیرا پیش روی همگان با یهودیان مباحثه کرده، عقاید آنان را با دلایل قوی رد می‌کرد، و با استناد به کتب مقدّس ثابت می‌نمود که عیسی همان مسیح است.

ACTS 18

Paul in Corinth

1 Paul left Athens and went to Corinth, 2 where he met Aquila, a Jewish man from Pontus. Not long before this, Aquila had come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Emperor Claudius had ordered the Jewish people to leave Rome.t Paul went to see Aquila and Priscilla

3 and found out they were tent makers. Paul was also a tent maker, so he stayed with them, and they worked together.
4 Every Sabbath, Paul went to the synagogue. He spoke to Jews and Gentilest and tried to win them over. 5 But after Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, he spent all his time preaching to the Jews about Jesus the Messiah.

6 Finally, they turned against him and insulted him. So he shook the dust from his clothest and told them, “Whatever happens to you will be your own fault! I am not to blame. From now on I am going to preach to the Gentiles.”
7 Paul then moved into the house of a man named Titius Justus, who worshiped God and lived next door to the synagogue.

8 Crispus was the leader of the synagogue. He and everyone in his family put their faith in the Lord. Many others in Corinth also heard the message, and all the people who had faith in the Lord were baptized.
9 One night, Paul had a vision, and in it the Lord said, “Don't be afraid to keep on preaching. Don't stop! 10 I am with you, and you won't be harmed. Many people in this city belong to me.”

11 Paul stayed on in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching God's message to the people.
12 While Gallio was governor of Achaia, some of the Jewish leaders got together and grabbed Paul. They brought him into court

13 and said, “This man is trying to make our people worship God in a way that is against our Law!”
14 Even before Paul could speak, Gallio said, “If you were charging this man with a crime or some other wrong, I would have to listen to you. 15 But since this concerns only words, names, and your own law, you will have to take care of it yourselves. I refuse to judge such matters.” 16 Then he sent them out of the court.

17 The crowd grabbed Sosthenes, the Jewish leader, and beat him up in front of the court. But none of this mattered to Gallio.

Paul Returns to //Antioch in Syria

18  t After Paul had stayed for a while with the Lord's followers in Corinth, he told them goodbye and sailed on to Syria with Aquila and Priscilla. But before he left, he had his head shavedt at Cenchreae because he had made a promise to God.
19 The three of them arrived in Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He then went into the synagogue to talk with the people there. 20 They asked him to stay longer, but he refused.

21 He told them goodbye and said, “If God lets me, I will come back.”
22 Paul sailed to Caesarea, where he greeted the church. Then he went on to Antioch.

23 After staying there for a while, he left and visited several places in Galatia and Phrygia. He helped the followers there to become stronger in their faith.

Apollos in Ephesus

25 He also knew much about the Lord's Way, t and he spoke about it with great excitement. What he taught about Jesus was right, but all he knew was John's message about baptism.

26 Apollos started speaking bravely in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him to their home and helped him understand God's Way even better.
27 Apollos decided to travel through Achaia. So the Lord's followers wrote letters, encouraging the followers there to welcome him. After Apollos arrived in Achaia, he was a great help to everyone who had put their faith in the Lord Jesus because of God's gift of undeserved grace. 28 He got into fierce arguments with the Jewish people, and in public he used the Scriptures to prove that Jesus is the Messiah.
