Actes des Apôtres 18

Paul à Corinthe

1 Après cela, Paul part d’Athènes et va à Corinthe. 2 Là, il rencontre un Juif appelé Aquilas qui est né dans la région du Pont. Il vient d’arriver d’Italie avec sa femme Priscille. En effet, l’empereur Claude a donné l’ordre à tous les Juifs de quitter Rome. Paul va chez Aquilas et Priscille. 3 Il a le même métier qu’eux : ils fabriquent des tentes. C’est pourquoi Paul reste chez eux, et ils travaillent ensemble.

4 Chaque sabbat, Paul discute dans la maison de prière et il essaie de persuader les Juifs et les non-Juifs.
5 Quand Silas et Timothée arrivent de Macédoine, Paul passe tout son temps à annoncer la parole de Dieu. Il explique aux Juifs que Jésus est le Messie,

6 mais ils sont contre Paul et l’insultent. Alors Paul secoue ses vêtementst et leur dit : « Ce qui va vous arriver, ce sera de votre faute, moi, je n’en suis pas responsable ! À partir de maintenant, j’irai vers ceux qui ne sont pas juifs. »
7 Paul sort de la maison de prière. Il va chez un certain Titius Justus, un homme qui adore Dieu. Il habite à côté de la maison de prière.

8 Crispus, le chef de la maison de prière, se met à croire au Seigneur, avec toute sa famille. Beaucoup de Corinthiens deviennent croyants en écoutant Paul et ils reçoivent le baptême.
9 Une nuit, le Seigneur se montre à Paul et lui dit : « N’aie pas peur, continue à parler, ne te tais pas ! 10 Oui, je suis avec toi, et personne ne pourra t’arrêter pour te faire du mal. En effet, dans cette ville, les gens qui m’appartiennent sont nombreux. »

11 Paul reste à Corinthe pendant un an et demi. Il enseigne aux gens la parole de Dieu.

Paul devant le gouverneur Gallion


12 Au temps où Gallion est gouverneur romain de l’Akaïet, les Juifs sont tous contre Paul. Ils l’amènent devant le tribunal 13 et ils disent : « Cet homme pousse les gens à adorer Dieu d’une façon contraire à la loi ! » 14 Paul veut répondre, mais Gallion leur dit : « Il ne s’agit pas d’un crime ni d’une faute grave, sinon je vous écouterais, bien sûr, vous les Juifs. 15 Mais vous vous disputez au sujet de mots, de noms et de votre loi à vous, donc, c’est votre affaire ! Je ne veux pas être juge pour ces choses-là ! » 16 Et Gallion les renvoie du tribunal.

17 Alors tous prennent Sostène, le chef de la maison de prière. Ils se mettent à le frapper devant le tribunal, mais Gallion ne s’en occupe pas.

Paul retourne à Antioche de Syrie


18 Paul reste encore assez longtemps à Corinthe, ensuite, il quitte les chrétiens. Il prend le bateau pour la Syrie, avec Priscille et Aquilas. Avant cela, il s’est fait raser la tête à Cencrées parce qu’il a fait un vœu. 19 Ils arrivent à Éphèse, c’est là que Paul laisse Priscille et Aquilas. Il va à la maison de prière et discute avec les Juifs. 20 Ceux-ci lui demandent : « Reste encore avec nous ! » Mais Paul ne veut pas,

21 il les quitte en leur disant : « Je reviendrai chez vous une autre fois, si Dieu le veut. »
Ensuite, il part d’Éphèse en bateau. 22 Paul arrive à Césarée. Il va d’abord à Jérusalem pour saluer l’Église, puis il part pour Antioche de Syrie.

23 Il reste un certain temps dans cette ville puis il repart. Il traverse la Galatie et la Phrygie et il encourage tous les disciples.

Apollos à Éphèse et à Corinthe


24 Un Juif, né à Alexandrie, arrive à Éphèse. Son nom est Apollos. Il parle bien et connaît parfaitement les Livres Saints. 25 On lui a appris à suivre le chemin du Seigneur. Avec beaucoup d’ardeur, il annonce et enseigne exactement la Bonne Nouvelle de Jésus, mais il connaît seulement le baptême de Jean. 26 Il se met donc à parler avec assurance dans la maison de prière des Juifs. Quand Priscille et Aquilas l’entendent, ils le prennent chez eux et lui enseignent plus exactement encore le chemin du Seigneur. 27 Apollos veut aller en Akaïet. Les chrétiens l’encouragent à partir. Ils écrivent une lettre aux disciples de là-bas, pour leur dire de bien recevoir Apollos. Quand il arrive, il est très utile aux croyants, parce que Dieu le soutient. 28 En effet, devant tout le monde, il parle si bien que les Juifs ne trouvent rien à lui répondre. Il se sert des Livres Saints pour prouver que Jésus est le Messie.

ACTS 18

Paul in Corinth

1 Paul left Athens and went to Corinth, 2 where he met Aquila, a Jewish man from Pontus. Not long before this, Aquila had come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Emperor Claudius had ordered the Jewish people to leave Rome.t Paul went to see Aquila and Priscilla

3 and found out they were tent makers. Paul was also a tent maker, so he stayed with them, and they worked together.
4 Every Sabbath, Paul went to the synagogue. He spoke to Jews and Gentilest and tried to win them over. 5 But after Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, he spent all his time preaching to the Jews about Jesus the Messiah.

6 Finally, they turned against him and insulted him. So he shook the dust from his clothest and told them, “Whatever happens to you will be your own fault! I am not to blame. From now on I am going to preach to the Gentiles.”
7 Paul then moved into the house of a man named Titius Justus, who worshiped God and lived next door to the synagogue.

8 Crispus was the leader of the synagogue. He and everyone in his family put their faith in the Lord. Many others in Corinth also heard the message, and all the people who had faith in the Lord were baptized.
9 One night, Paul had a vision, and in it the Lord said, “Don't be afraid to keep on preaching. Don't stop! 10 I am with you, and you won't be harmed. Many people in this city belong to me.”

11 Paul stayed on in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching God's message to the people.
12 While Gallio was governor of Achaia, some of the Jewish leaders got together and grabbed Paul. They brought him into court

13 and said, “This man is trying to make our people worship God in a way that is against our Law!”
14 Even before Paul could speak, Gallio said, “If you were charging this man with a crime or some other wrong, I would have to listen to you. 15 But since this concerns only words, names, and your own law, you will have to take care of it yourselves. I refuse to judge such matters.” 16 Then he sent them out of the court.

17 The crowd grabbed Sosthenes, the Jewish leader, and beat him up in front of the court. But none of this mattered to Gallio.

Paul Returns to //Antioch in Syria


18  t After Paul had stayed for a while with the Lord's followers in Corinth, he told them goodbye and sailed on to Syria with Aquila and Priscilla. But before he left, he had his head shavedt at Cenchreae because he had made a promise to God.
19 The three of them arrived in Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He then went into the synagogue to talk with the people there. 20 They asked him to stay longer, but he refused.

21 He told them goodbye and said, “If God lets me, I will come back.”
22 Paul sailed to Caesarea, where he greeted the church. Then he went on to Antioch.

23 After staying there for a while, he left and visited several places in Galatia and Phrygia. He helped the followers there to become stronger in their faith.

Apollos in Ephesus


24 A Jewish man named Apollos came to Ephesus. Apollos had been born in the city of Alexandria. He was a very good speaker and knew a lot about the Scriptures.

25 He also knew much about the Lord's Way, t and he spoke about it with great excitement. What he taught about Jesus was right, but all he knew was John's message about baptism.

26 Apollos started speaking bravely in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him to their home and helped him understand God's Way even better.
27 Apollos decided to travel through Achaia. So the Lord's followers wrote letters, encouraging the followers there to welcome him. After Apollos arrived in Achaia, he was a great help to everyone who had put their faith in the Lord Jesus because of God's gift of undeserved grace. 28 He got into fierce arguments with the Jewish people, and in public he used the Scriptures to prove that Jesus is the Messiah.
