Hechos 18

Pablo en Corinto

1 Pablo salió de Atenas y se fue a la ciudad de Corinto.2 Allí encontró a un judío llamado Áquila, que era de la región de Ponto. Hacía poco tiempo que Áquila y su esposa Priscila habían salido de Italia, pues Claudio, el emperador de Roma, había ordenado que todos los judíos salieran del país. t Pablo fue a visitar a Áquila y a Priscila,

3 y al ver que ellos se dedicaban a fabricar tiendas de campaña, se quedó a trabajar con ellos, pues también él sabía cómo hacerlas.

4 Todos los sábados Pablo iba a la sinagoga , y hablaba con judíos y griegos para tratar de convencerlos de hacerse seguidores de Jesús.
5 Silas y Timoteo viajaron desde la región de Macedonia hasta Corinto. Cuando llegaron, Pablo estaba dando a los judíos las buenas noticias de que Jesús era el Mesías .

6 Pero los judíos se pusieron en contra de Pablo y lo insultaron. Entonces Pablo, en señal de rechazo, se sacudió el polvo de la ropa y les dijo: «Si Dios los castiga, la culpa será de ustedes y no mía. De ahora en adelante les hablaré a los que no son judíos.»
7 De allí, Pablo se fue a la casa de un hombre llamado Ticio Justo, que adoraba a Dios. La casa de Ticio estaba junto a la sinagoga.

8 El encargado de la sinagoga se llamaba Crispo, y él y toda su familia creyeron en el Señor Jesús. También muchos de los habitantes de Corinto que escucharon a Pablo creyeron y fueron bautizados.
9 Una noche, el Señor Jesús habló con Pablo por medio de una visión , y le dijo: «No tengas miedo de hablar de mí ante la gente; ¡nunca te calles!

10 Yo te ayudaré en todo, y nadie te hará daño. En esta ciudad hay mucha gente que me pertenece.»

11 Pablo se quedó un año y medio en Corinto, y allí enseñó a la gente el mensaje de Dios.
12 Tiempo después, en los días en que Galión era gobernador de la provincia de Acaya, los judíos de Corinto atacaron a Pablo y lo llevaron ante el tribunal.

13 Les dijeron a las autoridades:

—Este hombre hace que la gente adore a Dios de un modo que está prohibido por la ley.

14 Pablo estaba a punto de decir algo, pero el gobernador Galión dijo a los judíos:

—Yo no tengo por qué tratar estos asuntos con ustedes, porque no se trata de ningún crimen.

15 Éste es un asunto de palabras, de nombres y de la ley de ustedes, así que arréglenlo ustedes. Yo, en estas cuestiones, no me meto.

16 Galión ordenó que sacaran del tribunal a todos.

17 Entonces los judíos agarraron a Sóstenes, el encargado de la sinagoga, y lo golpearon frente al edificio del tribunal. Pero esto a Galión no le importó nada.

Pablo regresa a Antioquía

18 Pablo se quedó algún tiempo en la ciudad de Corinto. Después se despidió de los miembros de la iglesia y decidió irse a la región de Siria. Priscila y Áquila lo acompañaron. Cuando llegaron a Cencreas, que es el puerto de la ciudad de Corinto, Pablo se rapó todo el pelo t porque le había hecho una promesa a Dios. Luego, se subieron en un barco y salieron rumbo a Siria.
19 Cuando llegaron al puerto de Éfeso, Pablo se separó de Priscila y Áquila. Fue a la sinagoga , y allí habló con los judíos acerca de Jesús.20 Los judíos de ese lugar le pidieron que se quedara unos días más, pero Pablo no quiso.

21 Se despidió de ellos y les dijo: «Si Dios quiere, regresaré a verlos.»
Luego partió en barco y continuó su viaje hacia Siria.

22 Cuando llegó al puerto de Cesarea, fue a saludar a los miembros de la iglesia. Después salió hacia la ciudad de Antioquía.

23 Pablo se quedó en Antioquía sólo algunos días, y después se fue a visitar varios lugares de las regiones de Galacia y de Frigia, donde animó a los seguidores a mantenerse fieles a Jesús.

Priscila, Áquila y Apolo

24 Por aquel tiempo llegó a la ciudad de Éfeso un hombre que se llamaba Apolo. Era de la ciudad de Alejandría, y sabía convencer a la gente con sus palabras, pues conocía mucho de la Biblia .

25 Apolo sabía también algo acerca de Jesús, y hablaba con entusiasmo a la gente y le explicaba muy bien lo que sabía acerca de Jesús. Sin embargo, conocía solamente lo que Juan el Bautista había anunciado.

26 Un día Apolo, confiado en sus conocimientos, comenzó a hablarle a la gente que estaba en la sinagoga . Pero cuando Priscila y Áquila lo escucharon, lo llevaron a su casa y le explicaron en forma más clara y directa el mensaje de Dios.
27 Como Apolo quería recorrer la región de Acaya, los miembros de la iglesia escribieron una carta a los cristianos de la región, para que fuera bien recibido por todos. Cuando Apolo llegó a Acaya, ayudó mucho a los que, gracias al amor de Dios, habían creído en Jesús.

28 Apolo se enfrentaba a los judíos que no creían en Jesús, y con las enseñanzas de la Biblia les probaba que Jesús era el Mesías .

ACTS 18

Paul in Corinth

1 Paul left Athens and went to Corinth, 2 where he met Aquila, a Jewish man from Pontus. Not long before this, Aquila had come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Emperor Claudius had ordered the Jewish people to leave Rome.t Paul went to see Aquila and Priscilla

3 and found out they were tent makers. Paul was also a tent maker, so he stayed with them, and they worked together.
4 Every Sabbath, Paul went to the synagogue. He spoke to Jews and Gentilest and tried to win them over. 5 But after Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, he spent all his time preaching to the Jews about Jesus the Messiah.

6 Finally, they turned against him and insulted him. So he shook the dust from his clothest and told them, “Whatever happens to you will be your own fault! I am not to blame. From now on I am going to preach to the Gentiles.”
7 Paul then moved into the house of a man named Titius Justus, who worshiped God and lived next door to the synagogue.

8 Crispus was the leader of the synagogue. He and everyone in his family put their faith in the Lord. Many others in Corinth also heard the message, and all the people who had faith in the Lord were baptized.
9 One night, Paul had a vision, and in it the Lord said, “Don't be afraid to keep on preaching. Don't stop! 10 I am with you, and you won't be harmed. Many people in this city belong to me.”

11 Paul stayed on in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching God's message to the people.
12 While Gallio was governor of Achaia, some of the Jewish leaders got together and grabbed Paul. They brought him into court

13 and said, “This man is trying to make our people worship God in a way that is against our Law!”
14 Even before Paul could speak, Gallio said, “If you were charging this man with a crime or some other wrong, I would have to listen to you. 15 But since this concerns only words, names, and your own law, you will have to take care of it yourselves. I refuse to judge such matters.” 16 Then he sent them out of the court.

17 The crowd grabbed Sosthenes, the Jewish leader, and beat him up in front of the court. But none of this mattered to Gallio.

Paul Returns to //Antioch in Syria

18  t After Paul had stayed for a while with the Lord's followers in Corinth, he told them goodbye and sailed on to Syria with Aquila and Priscilla. But before he left, he had his head shavedt at Cenchreae because he had made a promise to God.
19 The three of them arrived in Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He then went into the synagogue to talk with the people there. 20 They asked him to stay longer, but he refused.

21 He told them goodbye and said, “If God lets me, I will come back.”
22 Paul sailed to Caesarea, where he greeted the church. Then he went on to Antioch.

23 After staying there for a while, he left and visited several places in Galatia and Phrygia. He helped the followers there to become stronger in their faith.

Apollos in Ephesus

25 He also knew much about the Lord's Way, t and he spoke about it with great excitement. What he taught about Jesus was right, but all he knew was John's message about baptism.

26 Apollos started speaking bravely in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him to their home and helped him understand God's Way even better.
27 Apollos decided to travel through Achaia. So the Lord's followers wrote letters, encouraging the followers there to welcome him. After Apollos arrived in Achaia, he was a great help to everyone who had put their faith in the Lord Jesus because of God's gift of undeserved grace. 28 He got into fierce arguments with the Jewish people, and in public he used the Scriptures to prove that Jesus is the Messiah.
