Pablo en Corinto
1 Después de esto, Pablo salió de Atenas y se fue a Corinto.t 2 Allí encontró a un judío llamado Áquila, natural de la región del Ponto.t Poco antes, Áquila y su esposa Priscilat habían llegado de Italia, de donde tuvieron que salir porque el emperador Claudio había ordenado que todos los judíos salieran de Roma.t Pablo fue a visitarlos, 3 y como tenía el mismo oficio que ellos, que era hacer tiendas de campaña, se quedó a su lado para trabajar juntos.t
4 Todos los sábados iba Pablo a la sinagoga, y trataba de convencer lo mismo a los judíos que a los no judíos.
5 Cuando Silas y Timoteo llegaron de Macedonia, Pablo se dedicó a anunciar el mensaje y a probar a los judíos que Jesús era el Mesías.t t
6 Pero ellos se pusieron en contra suya, y le insultaron, por lo que Pablo se sacudió las ropas en señal de protesta y les dijo:
–Vosotros tenéis la culpa de vuestra propia perdición. Yo no me hago responsable. De hoy en adelante me dirigiré a los que no son judíos.t
7 Salió de allí y entró en casa de uno llamado Ticio Justo, que adoraba a Diost y vivía al lado de la sinagoga. 8 Crispo,t jefe de la sinagoga, junto con toda su familia, creyó en el Señor; y también muchos de Corinto, al oir el mensaje, creyeron y fueron bautizados. 9 Una noche, el Señor dijo a Pablo en una visión: “No tengas miedo. Sigue anunciando el mensaje y no calles,
10 porque yo estoy contigo y nadie podrá hacerte daño, pues muchos de esta ciudad pertenecen a mi pueblo.”
11 Así que Pablo permaneció un año y medio en Corinto, enseñando entre ellos el mensaje de Dios.
12 Pero en el tiempo en que Galión era gobernador de Acaya,t los judíos se juntaron contra Pablo. Le llevaron al tribunal
13 y dijeron al gobernador:
–Este hombre anda convenciendo a la gente de que deben adorar a Dios en una forma que va contra la ley.
14 Pablo estaba a punto de hablar, cuando Galión dijo a los judíos:
–Si se tratara de algún delito o crimen grave, yo, por supuesto, me tomaría la molestia de oiros a vosotros los judíos;
15 pero como se trata de palabras, de nombres y de vuestra ley, arregladlo vosotros mismos. Yo no quiero meterme en esos asuntos.
16 Y los echó del tribunal.
17 Entonces agarraron todos a una a Sóstenes,t jefe de la sinagoga, y le golpearon allí mismo, delante del tribunal. Pero Galión no hacía el menor caso.tRegreso de Pablo a Antioquía
18 Pablo se quedó aún bastantes días en Corinto. Después se despidió de los hermanos y se embarcó con Priscila y Áquila para ir a la región de Siria. En Cencreas,t antes de embarcar, se rapó la cabeza para cumplir una promesat que había hecho. 19 Cuando llegaron a Éfeso,t Pablo, dejando a Priscila y Áquila, entró en la sinagoga para hablar con los judíos que se reunían allí. 20 Estos le rogaron que se quedara más tiempo, pero no quiso,
21 sino que se despidió diciendo:t
–Si Dios quiere, volveré otra vez a visitaros.
Después se embarcó y partió de Éfeso.
22 Pasando por Cesarea, llegó a Jerusalén para saludar a los de la iglesia, y de allí se dirigió a Antioquía.5. Tercer viaje misionero de Pablo (18.23–20.38)
Pablo recorre Galacia y Frigia
23 Al cabo de cierto tiempo salió de nuevo a recorrer uno por uno los lugares de Galacia y Frigia, animando a todos los creyentes.Apolos predica en Éfeso
24 Por aquel entonces llegó a Éfeso un judío llamado Apolos,t natural de la ciudad de Alejandría.t Era muy elocuente y conocía muy bien las Escrituras. 25 Estaba instruido en el camino del Señor, y hablaba con gran entusiasmo enseñando con claridad acerca de Jesús, aunque sólo conocía el bautismo de Juan.t 26 Apolos se puso a hablar abiertamente en la sinagoga, y Priscila y Áquila, que le oyeron, le llevaron aparte y le explicaron con más exactitud el camino de Dios. 27 Cuando Apolos quiso pasar a la región de Acaya,t los hermanost le dieron su apoyo, y escribieron una carta a los creyentes de aquella región para que le recibieran bien. Al llegar a Acaya ayudó mucho a los que, por la bondad de Dios, habían creído; 28 contradecía en público a los judíos con razones que ellos no podían rebatir, y basándose en las Escrituras demostraba que Jesús es el Mesías.t
Acts 18
Paul at Corinth
1 After thist Pault departed fromt Athenss and went to Corinth.ss2 There het foundt a Jew named Aquila,s a native of Pontus,s who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudiuss had ordered all the Jews to depart fromt Rome.s Paul approachedt them,3 and because he worked at the same trade, he stayed with them and worked with themt (for they were tentmakerst by trade).s
4 He addressedt both Jews and Greeks in the synagogues every Sabbath, attempting to persuadet them.
5 Now when Silas and Timothy arrivedt from Macedonia,s Paul became wholly absorbed with proclaimingt the word, testifyingt to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.ts6 When they opposed himt and reviled him,t he protested by shaking out his clothests and said to them, “Your bloods be on your own heads! I am guiltless!t From now on I will go to the Gentiles!”7 Then Pault leftt the synagoguet and went to the house of a person named Titius Justus, a Gentile who worshiped God,ts whose house was next door to the synagogue.8 Crispus, the president of the synagogue,t believed in the Lord together with his entire household, and many of the Corinthians who heard about itt believed and were baptized.9 The Lord said to Paul by a visions in the night,t “Do not be afraid,t but speak and do not be silent,10 because I am with you, and no one will assaultt you to harmt you, because I have many people in this city.”
11 So he stayed theret a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.t
Paul Before the Proconsul Gallio
12 Now while Gallios was proconsuls of Achaia,s the Jews attacked Paul togethert and brought him before the judgment seat,ts13 saying, “This man is persuadingt people to worship God in a way contrary tot the law!”14 But just as Paul was about to speak,t Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of some crime or serious piece of villainy,t I would have been justified in accepting the complaintt of you Jews,t15 but since it concerns points of disagreementt about words and names and your own law, settlet it yourselves. I will not bet a judge of these things!”16 Then he had them forced awayt from the judgment seat.s
17 So they all seized Sosthenes, the president of the synagogue,ts and began to beatt him in front of the judgment seat.s Yet none of these things were of any concernts to Gallio.
Paul Returns to Antioch in Syria
18 Paul, after stayingt many more days in Corinth,s said farewell tot the brothers and sailed away to Syria accompanied byt Priscilla and Aquila.s Het had his hair cut offt at Cenchreats because he had made a vow.s19 When they reached Ephesus,ss Pault left Priscilla and Aquilat behind there, but he himself wentt into the synagogues and addressedt the Jews.20 When they asked him to stay longer, he would not consent,s21 but said farewell tot them and added,t “I will come backt to you again if God wills.”t Thent he set sail from Ephesus,22 and when he arrivedt at Caesarea,ss he went up and greetedt the church at Jerusalemts and then went down to Antioch.ss
23 After he spentt some time there, Paul left and went through the region of Galatias and Phrygia,s strengthening all the disciples.
Apollos Begins His Ministry
24 Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, arrived in Ephesus.s He was an eloquent speaker,t well-versedt in the scriptures.25 He had been instructed int the way of the Lord, and with great enthusiasmt he spoke and taught accurately the factst about Jesus, although he knewt only the baptism of John.26 He began to speak out fearlesslyt in the synagogue,s but when Priscilla and Aquilas heard him, they took him asidet and explained the way of God to him more accurately.27 When Apollost wanted to cross over to Achaia,s the brothers encouragedt himt and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, het assisted greatly those who had believed by grace,
28 for he refuted the Jews vigorouslyt in public debate,t demonstrating from the scriptures that the Christts was Jesus.t
