La llegada del Espíritu Santo

1  El día de Pentecostés,t todos los creyentes estaban reunidos en un mismo lugar. 2 De repente, se oyó un ruido desde el cielo parecido al estruendo de un viento fuerte e impetuoso que llenó la casa donde estaban sentados. 3 Luego, algo parecido a unas llamas o lenguas de fuego aparecieron y se posaron sobre cada uno de ellos. 4 Y todos los presentes fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo y comenzaron a hablar en otros idiomas,t conforme el Espíritu Santo les daba esa capacidad.

5 En esa ocasión, había judíos devotos de todas las naciones, que vivían en Jerusalén. 6 Cuando oyeron el fuerte ruido, todos llegaron corriendo y quedaron desconcertados al escuchar sus propios idiomas hablados por los creyentes.

7 Estaban totalmente asombrados. «¿Cómo puede ser? —exclamaban—. Todas estas personas son de Galilea, 8 ¡y aun así las oímos hablar en nuestra lengua materna! 9 Aquí estamos nosotros: partos, medos, elamitas, gente de Mesopotamia, Judea, Capadocia, Ponto, de la provincia de Asia, 10 de Frigia, Panfilia, Egipto y de las áreas de Libia alrededor de Cirene, visitantes de Roma 11 (tanto judíos como convertidos al judaísmo), cretenses y árabes. ¡Y todos oímos a esta gente hablar en nuestro propio idioma acerca de las cosas maravillosas que Dios ha hecho!». 12 Quedaron allí, maravillados y perplejos. «¿Qué querrá decir esto?», se preguntaban unos a otros.

13 Pero otros entre la multitud se burlaban de ellos diciendo: «Sólo están borrachos, eso es todo».

Pedro predica a la multitud

14 Entonces Pedro dio un paso adelante junto con los otros once apóstoles y gritó a la multitud: «¡Escuchen con atención, todos ustedes, compatriotas judíos y residentes de Jerusalén! No se equivoquen. 15 Estas personas no están borrachas, como algunos de ustedes suponen. Las nueve de la mañana es demasiado temprano para emborracharse. 16 No, lo que ustedes ven es lo que el profeta Joel predijo hace mucho tiempo:

17 “En los últimos días —dice Dios—,
derramaré mi Espíritu sobre toda la gente.
Sus hijos e hijas profetizarán.
Sus jóvenes tendrán visiones,
y sus ancianos tendrán sueños.

18 En esos días derramaré mi Espíritu
sobre mis siervos —hombres y mujeres por igual—
y profetizarán.

19 Y haré maravillas arriba en los cielos
y señales abajo en la tierra:
sangre, fuego y nubes de humo.

20 El sol se oscurecerá,
y la luna se pondrá roja como la sangre
antes de que llegue el grande y glorioso día del SEÑOR.

21 Pero todo el que invoque el nombre del SEÑOR
será salvo”t.

22 »Pueblo de Israel, ¡escucha! Dios públicamente aprobó a Jesús de Nazarett al hacer milagros poderosos, maravillas y señales por medio de él, como ustedes bien saben; 23 pero Dios sabía lo que iba a suceder y su plan predeterminado se llevó a cabo cuando Jesús fue traicionado. Con la ayuda de gentilest sin ley, ustedes lo clavaron en la cruz y lo mataron; 24 pero Dios lo liberó de los terrores de la muerte y lo volvió a la vida, pues la muerte no pudo retenerlo bajo su dominio.

25 El rey David dijo lo siguiente acerca de él:
“Veo que el SEÑOR siempre está conmigo.
No seré sacudido, porque él está aquí a mi lado.

26 ¡Con razón mi corazón está contento,
y mi lengua grita sus alabanzas!
Mi cuerpo descansa en esperanza.

27 Pues tú no dejarás mi alma entre los muertost
ni permitirás que tu Santo se pudra en la tumba.

28 Me has mostrado el camino de la vida
y me llenarás con la alegría de tu presencia”t.

29 »Queridos hermanos, ¡piensen en esto! Pueden estar seguros de que el patriarca David no se refería a sí mismo, porque él murió, fue enterrado y su tumba está todavía aquí entre nosotros; 30 pero él era un profeta y sabía que Dios había prometido mediante un juramento que uno de los propios descendientes de David se sentaría en su trono. 31 David estaba mirando hacia el futuro y hablaba de la resurrección del Mesías. Él decía que Dios no lo dejaría entre los muertos ni permitiría que su cuerpo se pudriera en la tumba.

32 »Dios levantó a Jesús de los muertos y de esto todos nosotros somos testigos. 33 Ahora él ha sido exaltado al lugar de más alto honor en el cielo, a la derecha de Dios. Y el Padre, según lo había prometido, le dio el Espíritu Santo para que lo derramara sobre nosotros, tal como ustedes lo ven y lo oyen hoy.

34 Pues David nunca ascendió al cielo; sin embargo, dijo:
“El SEÑOR dijo a mi Señor:
‘Siéntate en el lugar de honor a mi derecha,

35 hasta que humille a tus enemigos
y los ponga por debajo de tus pies’”t.

36 »Por lo tanto, que todos en Israel sepan sin lugar a dudas, que a este Jesús, a quien ustedes crucificaron, ¡Dios lo ha hecho tanto Señor como Mesías!».

37 Las palabras de Pedro traspasaron el corazón de ellos, quienes le dijeron a él y a los demás apóstoles:
—Hermanos, ¿qué debemos hacer?

38 Pedro contestó:
—Cada uno de ustedes debe arrepentirse de sus pecados y volver a Dios, y ser bautizado en el nombre de Jesucristo para el perdón de sus pecados. Entonces recibirán el regalo del Espíritu Santo. 39 Esta promesa es para ustedes, para sus hijos e incluso para los gentiles,t es decir, para todos los que han sido llamados por el Señor nuestro Dios.

40 Entonces Pedro siguió predicando por largo rato, y les rogaba con insistencia a todos sus oyentes: «¡Sálvense de esta generación perversa!».

41 Los que creyeron lo que Pedro dijo fueron bautizados y sumados a la iglesia en ese mismo día, como tres mil en total.

Los creyentes forman una comunidad

42 Todos los creyentes se dedicaban a las enseñanzas de los apóstoles, a la comunión fraternal, a participar juntos en las comidas (entre ellas la Cena del Señort), y a la oración.

43 Un profundo temor reverente vino sobre todos ellos, y los apóstoles realizaban muchas señales milagrosas y maravillas. 44 Todos los creyentes se reunían en un mismo lugar y compartían todo lo que tenían. 45 Vendían sus propiedades y posesiones y compartían el dinero con aquellos en necesidad. 46 Adoraban juntos en el templo cada día, se reunían en casas para la Cena del Señor y compartían sus comidas con gran gozo y generosidad,t 47 todo el tiempo alabando a Dios y disfrutando de la buena voluntad de toda la gente. Y cada día el Señor agregaba a esa comunidad cristiana los que iban siendo salvos.

ACTS 2

The Coming of the Holy Spirit

1  t On the day of Pentecostt all the Lord's followers were together in one place. 2 Suddenly there was a noise from heaven like the sound of a mighty wind! It filled the house where they were meeting. 3 Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues moving in all directions, and a tongue came and settled on each person there.

4 The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking whatever languages the Spirit let them speak.
5 Many religious Jews from every country in the world were living in Jerusalem. 6 And when they heard this noise, a crowd gathered. But they were surprised, because they were hearing everything in their own languages.

7 They were excited and amazed, and said:
Don't all these who are speaking come from Galilee? 8 Then why do we hear them speaking our very own languages? 9 Some of us are from Parthia, Media, and Elam. Others are from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, 10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, parts of Libya near Cyrene, Rome,

11 Crete, and Arabia. Some of us were born Jews, and others of us have chosen to be Jews. Yet we all hear them using our own languages to tell the wonderful things God has done.

12 Everyone was excited and confused. Some of them even kept asking each other, “What does all this mean?”

13 Others made fun of the Lord's followers and said, “They are drunk.”

Peter Speaks to the Crowd

14 Peter stood with the eleven apostles and spoke in a loud and clear voice to the crowd:
Friends and everyone else living in Jerusalem, listen carefully to what I have to say! 15 You are wrong to think that these people are drunk. After all, it is only nine o'clock in the morning.

16 But this is what God told the prophet Joel to say,

17  t “When the last days come,
I will give my Spirit
to everyone.
Your sons and daughters
will prophesy.
Your young men
will see visions,
and your old men
will have dreams.

18 In those days I will give
my Spirit to my servants,
both men and women,
and they will prophesy.

19 I will work miracles
in the sky above
and wonders
on the earth below.
There will be blood and fire
and clouds of smoke.

20 The sun will turn dark,
and the moon
will be as red as blood
before the great
and wonderful day
of the Lord appears.

21 Then the Lord
will save everyone
who asks for his help.”
22 Now, listen to what I have to say about Jesus from Nazareth. God proved he sent Jesus to you by having him work miracles, wonders, and signs. All of you know this. 23 t God had already planned and decided that Jesus would be handed over to you. So you took him and had evil men put him to death on a cross. 24 t But God set him free from death and raised him to life. Death could not hold him in its power.

25 t What David said are really the words of Jesus,
“I always see the Lord
near me,
and I will not be afraid
with him at my right side.

26 Because of this,
my heart will be glad,
my words will be joyful,
and I will live in hope.

27 The Lord won't leave me
in the grave.
I am his holy one,
and he won't let
my body decay.

28 He has shown me
the path to life,
and he makes me glad
by being near me.”
29 My friends, it is right for me to speak to you about our ancestor David. He died and was buried, and his tomb is still here.

30 t But David was a prophet, and he knew that God had made a promise he would not break. He had told David someone from his own family would someday be king.
31 David knew this would happen, and so he told us Christ would be raised to life. He said God would not leave him in the grave or let his body decay.

32 All of us can tell you that God has raised Jesus to life!

33 Jesus was taken up to sit at the right sidet of God, and he was given the Holy Spirit, just as the Father had promised. Jesus is also the one who has given the Spirit to us, and this is what you are now seeing and hearing.
34  t David didn't go up to heaven. So he wasn't talking about himself when he said, “The Lord told my Lord to sit at his right side, 35 until he made my Lord's enemies into a footstool for him.”

36 Everyone in Israel should then know for certain that God has made Jesus both Lord and Christ, even though you put him to death on a cross.

37 When the people heard this, they were very upset. They asked Peter and the other apostles, “Friends, what should we do?”
38 Peter said to them, “Turn to God and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39 This promise is for you and your children. It is for everyone our Lord God will choose, no matter where they live.”
40 Peter told them many other things as well. Then he said, “I beg you to save yourselves from what will happen to all these evil people.” 41 On that day about 3,000 believed his message and were baptized.

42 They spent their time learning from the apostles, and they were like family to each other. They also broke breadt and prayed together.
