1 پھر عیدِ پنتکُست کا دن آیا۔ سب ایک جگہ جمع تھے2 کہ اچانک آسمان سے ایسی آواز آئی جیسے شدید آندھی چل رہی ہو۔ پورا مکان جس میں وہ بیٹھے تھے اِس آواز سے گونج اُٹھا۔3 اور اُنہیں شعلے کی لَوئیں جیسی نظر آئیں جو الگ الگ ہو کر اُن میں سے ہر ایک پر اُتر کر ٹھہر گئیں۔4 سب روح القدس سے بھر گئے اور مختلف غیرملکی زبانوں میں بولنے لگے، ہر ایک اُس زبان میں جو بولنے کی روح القدس نے اُسے توفیق دی۔5 اُس وقت یروشلم میں ایسے خدا ترس یہودی ٹھہرے ہوئے تھے جو آسمان تلے کی ہر قوم میں سے تھے۔6 جب یہ آواز سنائی دی تو ایک بڑا ہجوم جمع ہوا۔ سب گھبرا گئے کیونکہ ہر ایک نے ایمان داروں کو اپنی مادری زبان میں بولتے سنا۔7 سخت حیرت زدہ ہو کر وہ کہنے لگے، ”کیا یہ سب گلیل کے رہنے والے نہیں ہیں؟8 تو پھر یہ کس طرح ہو سکتا ہے کہ ہم میں سے ہر ایک اُنہیں اپنی مادری زبان میں باتیں کرتے سن رہا ہے9 جبکہ ہمارے ممالک یہ ہیں: پارتھیا، مادیا، عیلام، مسوپتامیہ، یہودیہ، کپدکیہ، پنطس، آسیہ،10 فروگیہ، پمفیلیہ، مصر اور لبیا کا وہ علاقہ جو کرین کے ارد گرد ہے۔ روم سے بھی لوگ موجود ہیں۔11 یہاں یہودی بھی ہیں اور غیریہودی نومرید بھی، کریتے کے لوگ اور عرب کے باشندے بھی۔ اور اب ہم سب کے سب اِن کو اپنی اپنی زبان میں اللہ کے عظیم کاموں کا ذکر کرتے سن رہے ہیں۔“12 سب دنگ رہ گئے۔ اُلجھن میں پڑ کر وہ ایک دوسرے سے پوچھنے لگے، ”اِس کا کیا مطلب ہے؟“13 لیکن کچھ لوگ اُن کا مذاق اُڑا کر کہنے لگے، ”یہ بس نئی مَے پی کر نشے میں دُھت ہو گئے ہیں۔“14 پھر پطرس باقی گیارہ رسولوں سمیت کھڑا ہو کر اونچی آواز سے اُن سے مخاطب ہوا، ”سنیں، یہودی بھائیو اور یروشلم کے تمام رہنے والو! جان لیں اور غور سے میری بات سن لیں!15 آپ کا خیال ہے کہ یہ لوگ نشے میں ہیں۔ لیکن ایسا نہیں ہے۔ دیکھیں، ابھی توصبح کے نو بجے کا وقت ہے۔16 اب وہ کچھ ہو رہا ہے جس کی پیش گوئی یوئیل نبی نے کی تھی،17 ’اللہ فرماتا ہے کہ آخری دنوں میں مَیں اپنے روح کو تمام انسانوں پر اُنڈیل دوں گا۔ تمہارے بیٹے بیٹیاں نبوّت کریں گے، تمہارے نوجوان رویائیں اور تمہارے بزرگ خواب دیکھیں گے۔18 اُن دنوں میں مَیں اپنے روح کو اپنے خادموں اور خادماؤں پر بھی اُنڈیل دوں گا، اور وہ نبوّت کریں گے۔19 مَیں اوپر آسمان پر معجزے دکھاؤں گا اور نیچے زمین پر الٰہی نشان ظاہر کروں گا، خون، آگ اور دھوئیں کے بادل۔20 سورج تاریک ہو جائے گا، چاند کا رنگ خون سا ہو جائے گا، اور پھر رب کا عظیم اور جلالی دن آئے گا۔21 اُس وقت جو بھی رب کا نام لے گا نجات پائے گا۔‘22 اسرائیل کے مردو، میری بات سنیں! اللہ نے آپ کے سامنے ہی عیسیٰ ناصری کی تصدیق کی، کیونکہ اُس نے اُس کے وسیلے سے آپ کے درمیان عجوبے، معجزے اور الٰہی نشان دکھائے۔ آپ خود اِس بات سے واقف ہیں۔23 لیکن اللہ کو پہلے ہی علم تھا کہ کیا ہونا ہے، کیونکہ اُس نے خود اپنی مرضی سے مقرر کیا تھا کہ عیسیٰ کو دشمن کے حوالے کر دیا جائے۔ چنانچہ آپ نے بےدین لوگوں کے ذریعے اُسے صلیب پر چڑھوا کر قتل کیا۔24 لیکن اللہ نے اُسے موت کی اذیت ناک گرفت سے آزاد کر کے زندہ کر دیا، کیونکہ ممکن ہی نہیں تھا کہ موت اُسے اپنے قبضے میں رکھے۔25 چنانچہ داؤد نے اُس کے بارے میں کہا، ’رب ہر وقت میری آنکھوں کے سامنے رہا۔ وہ میرے دہنے ہاتھ رہتا ہے تاکہ مَیں نہ ڈگمگاؤں۔26 اِس لئے میرا دل شادمان ہے، اور میری زبان خوشی کے نعرے لگاتی ہے۔ ہاں، میرا بدن پُراُمید زندگی گزارے گا۔27 کیونکہ تُو میری جان کو پاتال میں نہیں چھوڑے گا، اور نہ اپنے مُقدّس کو گلنے سڑنے کی نوبت تک پہنچنے دے گا۔28 تُو نے مجھے زندگی کی راہوں سے آگاہ کر دیا ہے، اور تُو اپنے حضور مجھے خوشی سے سرشار کرے گا۔‘29 میرے بھائیو، اگر اجازت ہو تو مَیں آپ کو دلیری سے اپنے بزرگ داؤد کے بارے میں کچھ بتاؤں۔ وہ تو فوت ہو کر دفنایا گیا اور اُس کی قبر آج تک ہمارے درمیان موجود ہے۔30 لیکن وہ نبی تھا اور جانتا تھا کہ اللہ نے قَسم کھا کر مجھ سے وعدہ کیا ہے کہ وہ میری اولاد میں سے ایک کو میرے تخت پر بٹھائے گا۔31 مذکورہ آیات میں داؤد مستقبل میں دیکھ کر مسیح کے جی اُٹھنے کا ذکر کر رہا ہے، یعنی کہ نہ اُسے پاتال میں چھوڑا گیا، نہ اُس کا بدن گلنے سڑنے کی نوبت تک پہنچا۔32 اللہ نے اِسی عیسیٰ کو زندہ کر دیا ہے اور ہم سب اِس کے گواہ ہیں۔33 اب اُسے سرفراز کر کے خدا کے دہنے ہاتھ بٹھایا گیا اور باپ کی طرف سے اُسے موعودہ روح القدس مل گیا ہے۔ اِسی کو اُس نے ہم پر اُنڈیل دیا، جس طرح آپ دیکھ اور سن رہے ہیں۔34 داؤد خود تو آسمان پر نہیں چڑھا، توبھی اُس نے فرمایا، ’رب نے میرے رب سے کہا، میرے دہنے ہاتھ بیٹھ35 جب تک مَیں تیرے دشمنوں کو تیرے پاؤں کی چوکی نہ بنا دوں۔‘36 چنانچہ پورا اسرائیل یقین جانے کہ جس عیسیٰ کو آپ نے مصلوب کیا ہے اُسے ہی اللہ نے خداوند اور مسیح بنا دیا ہے۔“37 پطرس کی یہ باتیں سن کر لوگوں کے دل چھد گئے۔ اُنہوں نے پطرس اور باقی رسولوں سے پوچھا، ”بھائیو، پھر ہم کیا کریں؟“38 پطرس نے جواب دیا، ”آپ میں سے ہر ایک توبہ کر کے عیسیٰ کے نام پر بپتسمہ لے تاکہ آپ کے گناہ معاف کر دیئے جائیں۔ پھر آپ کو روح القدس کی نعمت مل جائے گی۔39 کیونکہ یہ دینے کا وعدہ آپ سے اور آپ کے بچوں سے کیا گیا ہے، بلکہ اُن سے بھی جو دُور کے ہیں، اُن سب سے جنہیں رب ہمارا خدا اپنے پاس بُلائے گا۔“40 پطرس نے مزید بہت سی باتوں سے اُنہیں نصیحت کی اور سمجھایا کہ ”اِس ٹیڑھی نسل سے نکل کر نجات پائیں۔“41 جنہوں نے پطرس کی بات قبول کی اُن کا بپتسمہ ہوا۔ یوں اُس دن جماعت میں تقریباً 3,000 افراد کا اضافہ ہوا۔42 یہ ایمان دار رسولوں سے تعلیم پانے، رفاقت رکھنے اور رفاقتی کھانوں اور دعاؤں میں شریک ہوتے رہے۔43 سب پر خوف چھا گیا اور رسولوں کی طرف سے بہت سے معجزے اور الٰہی نشان دکھائے گئے۔44 جو بھی ایمان لاتے تھے وہ ایک جگہ جمع ہوتے تھے۔ اُن کی ہر چیز مشترکہ ہوتی تھی۔45 اپنی ملکیت اور مال فروخت کر کے اُنہوں نے ہر ایک کو اُس کی ضرورت کے مطابق دیا۔46 روزانہ وہ یک دلی سے بیت المُقدّس میں جمع ہوتے رہے۔ ساتھ ساتھ وہ مسیح کی یاد میں اپنے گھروں میں روٹی توڑتے، بڑی خوشی اور سادگی سے رفاقتی کھانا کھاتے47 اور اللہ کی تمجید کرتے رہے۔ اُس وقت وہ تمام لوگوں کے منظورِ نظر تھے۔ اور خداوند روز بہ روز جماعت میں نجات یافتہ لوگوں کا اضافہ کرتا رہا۔

Acts 2

1 And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place.2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.3 And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.6 And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying, Behold, are not all these that speak Galilaeans?8 And how hear we, every man in our own language wherein we were born?9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God.12 And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this?13 But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine.14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, saying, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words.15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is but the third hour of the day.16 but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:

18 Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

19 And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day.

21 And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;23 him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.25 For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

26 Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope:

27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

28 Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.

29 Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne;31 he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.32 This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses.33 Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear.34 For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

35 Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?38 And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.39 For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.40 And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.41 They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added unto them in that day about three thousand souls.42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers.43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;45 and they sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all, according as any man had need.46 And day by day, continuing stedfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart,47 praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to them day by day those that were saved.
