La llegada del Espíritu Santo

1 Cuando llegó el día de Pentecostést, todos estaban reunidos en un mismo lugar.2 De repente, vino del cielo un ruido como de un viento muy fuerte, que llenó toda la casa.3 Vieron algo parecido a llamas de fuego que se separaron y se colocaron sobre cada uno de los que estaban allí.

4 Todos quedaron llenos del Espíritu Santo y empezaron a hablar en diferentes idiomas por el poder que les daba el Espíritu.
5 En Jerusalén estaban viviendo fieles judíos que habían venido de todas partes del mundo.6 Al oír el ruido, se reunió una multitud y estaban confundidos porque cada uno los oía hablar en su propio idioma.7 Muy sorprendidos y llenos de asombro, decían: «¿No son todos estos de Galilea?8 pero cada uno de nosotros los oye hablar en nuestro propio idioma. ¿Cómo es posible eso?9 Somos de diferentes partes del mundo: Partia, Media, Elam, Mesopotamia, Judea, Capadocia, Ponto, Asiat,10 Frigia, Panfilia, Egipto, el área de Libia cerca de la ciudad de Cirene, visitantes de Roma,

11 Creta y Arabia. Algunos de nosotros somos judíos y otros nos hemos convertido al judaísmo. Venimos de todos esos países, ¡pero los escuchamos hablar las maravillas de Dios en nuestro propio idioma!»
12 Todos estaban sorprendidos y asombrados, y se preguntaban: «¿Qué está pasando?»

13 En cambio, otros se burlaban, diciendo: «Esos están borrachos».

Pedro toma la palabra

14 Entonces Pedro se puso de pie junto con los otros once apóstoles y alzó la voz para que todos lo escucharan:
«Hermanos judíos y todos aquellos que viven en Jerusalén, escuchen con cuidado porque tengo algo que decirles.15 Estos no están borrachos como ustedes piensan, porque son apenas las nueve de la mañana.16 Pero el profeta Joel dijo esto sobre lo que está pasando ahora:
17 »"Dios dice:
En los últimos días, derramaré mi Espíritu
sobre toda la humanidad.
Los hijos e hijas de ustedes profetizarán.
Los jóvenes tendrán visiones,
y los ancianos tendrán sueños.
18 En esos días derramaré mi Espíritu
sobre mis siervos, hombres y mujeres,
y ellos profetizarán.
19 Les mostraré maravillas en el cielo
y señales milagrosas en la tierra:
habrá sangre, fuego y mucho humo.
20 El sol se oscurecerá,
y la luna se convertirá en sangre.
Entonces vendrá
el día grande e impresionante del Señor.

21 Todo el que confíe en el Señor, será salvo".t
22 »Israelitas, escuchen estas palabras: Dios aprobó a Jesús de Nazaret y lo demostró ante ustedes con las obras poderosas, las maravillas y las señales milagrosas que hizo a través de él. Ustedes bien saben que es verdad porque lo vieron.23 Él les fue entregado, conforme al plan de Dios, quien ya sabía lo que iba a pasar. Ustedes lo mataron por medio de hombres perversos.24 Jesús sufrió el dolor de la muerte, pero Dios lo liberó: lo resucitó porque la muerte no podía retenerlo.25 Davidt dice esto sobre Jesús:
»"Yo vi al Señor siempre delante de mí,
y él está a mi derecha para protegerme.
26 Estoy feliz y hablo lleno de alegría.
Todavía tengo esperanzas,
27 porque no me dejarás
en el lugar de los muertost
ni permitirás que el cuerpo de tu Santo
se pudra en el sepulcro.

28 Tú me mostraste el camino de la vida,
y tu presencia me llenará de alegría".t
29 »Hermanos míos, déjenme decirles la verdad acerca de David, nuestro antepasado. Él murió y lo enterraron y su sepulcro está aquí con nosotros hasta el día de hoy.30 Pero David era profeta y sabía que Dios le había prometido que uno de sus descendientes sería rey, como él.t

31 David supo esto antes de que sucediera, y dijo:
»"A él no lo dejaron abandonado
en el lugar de la muerte,
ni se pudrió su cuerpo en el sepulcro".


»David estaba hablando de la resurrección de Cristot.
32 Todos somos testigos de que a este Jesús Dios lo resucitó.33 Jesús fue llevado al cielo y ahora está a la derecha de Dios.t El Padre, según su promesa, le dio el Espíritu Santo. Jesús lo ha derramado sobre nosotros; eso es lo que ustedes ven y oyen ahora.34 David no subió al cielo, y sin embargo, dijo:
»"El Señor Dios le dijo a mi Señor:
Siéntate a mi derecha,

35 hasta que ponga a tus enemigos
bajo tu podert.t

36 »Entonces que todo Israel sepa que al hombre que mataron en la cruz, Dios lo convirtió en Señor y Cristo».

37 Al escuchar esto, todos se conmovieron profundamente y les preguntaron a Pedro y a los otros apóstoles:
—Hermanos, ¿qué debemos hacer?

38 Pedro les dijo:
—Cambien su manera de pensar y de vivir y bautíceset cada uno de ustedes en el nombre de Jesucristo. Así Dios les perdonará sus pecados y recibirán el Espíritu Santo como regalo.

39 Esta promesa es para ustedes, para sus hijos y para todos los que están lejos. Es decir, para todos los que el Señor nuestro Dios quiera llamar.

40 Pedro les advirtió de muchas maneras y les pidió con insistencia:
—¡Sálvense de esta generación perversa!
41 Entonces los que hicieron caso a su mensaje fueron bautizados. Ese día se unieron al grupo de creyentes más de tres mil personas.

42 Ellos estaban dedicados a aprender lo que los apóstoles enseñaban. Compartían lo que tenían, comíant y oraban juntos.

Vida de los creyentes

43 Todos sintieron un profundo asombro y los apóstoles hacían muchas maravillas y señales milagrosas.44 Todos los creyentes permanecían unidos y compartían sus bienes.45 Vendían lo que tenían y repartían el dinero entre los que estaban necesitados.46 Los creyentes, compartían el mismo propósito, cada día solían dedicar mucho tiempo en el área del templot y comían juntos en las casas. Compartían la comida con sencillez y alegría,

47 alababan a Dios y todo el pueblo los estimaba mucho. Cada día el Señor añadía a la iglesiat los que iban siendo salvos.

Acts 2

The Day of Pentecost

1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.7 They were amazed and astonished, saying, "Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?8 And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and tproselytes,11 Cretans and Arabs-we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God."12 And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"13 But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of sweet wine."

Peter's Sermon

14 But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the tthird hour of the day;16 but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:

17 'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says,
'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND;
AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY,
AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS,
AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;

18 EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN,
I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT
And they shall prophesy.

19 'AND I WILL GRANT WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE
AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW,
BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE.

20 'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS
AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD,
BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.

21 'AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'

22 "Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know-23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.24 But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.25 For David says of Him,
'I SAW THE LORD ALWAYS IN MY PRESENCE;
FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.

26 'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUE EXULTED;
MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE;

27 BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES,
NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.

28 'YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE;
YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'

29 "Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.30 And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE,31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of tthe Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY.32 This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.33 Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.34 For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says:
'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD,
"SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,

35 UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."'36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ-this Jesus whom you crucified."

The Ingathering

37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.39 For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!"41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand tsouls.42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

43 Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.44 And all those who had believed twere together and had all things in common;45 and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.46 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart,47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
