Atti 2

Il giorno della Pentecoste.

1 Passate sette settimane dalla morte e dalla resurrezione di Gesù, nel giorno della Pentecoste, i credenti si trovavano tutti insieme nello stesso luogo.2 Improvvisamente si udì un rumore dal cielo, come quando soffia un vento impetuoso, un rumore tale che riempì tutta la casa dove si trovavano.3 Allora apparvero come lingue di fuoco, separate l’una dall’altra, che si posavano sopra ciascuno di loro.4 Tutti i presenti furono pieni di Spirito Santo e cominciarono a parlare in altre lingue, perché lo Spirito Santo dava loro questa capacità.5 Quel giorno c’erano a Gerusalemme molti uomini timorati di Dio, venuti da tutte le parti del mondo per le celebrazioni religiose.6 Al sentire quel rumore, corsero a vedere e rimasero confusi, perché ciascuno sentiva i discepoli parlare nella propria lingua.7 « Come può essere?! » esclamavano meravigliati. « Ma questi che parlano non sono tutti della Galilea?8 Come mai, allora, li sentiamo parlare nelle lingue dei nostri paesi d’origine?!9 Qui ci sono Parti, Medi, Elamiti, alcuni di noi vengono dalla Mesopotamia, dalla Giudea, dalla Cappadòcia, dal Ponto e dall’Asia;10 dalla Frigia, dalla Panfilia, dall’Egitto, dalla Libia Cirenaica. E ci sono perfino dei pellegrini venuti da Roma: alcuni ebrei di nascita, altri invece convertiti da poco alla religione ebraica…11 Poi Cretesi ed Arabi… E tutti noi sentiamo questi uomini che parlano nelle nostre lingue delle grandi cose di Dio! »12 Stupiti e perplessi si chiedevano: « Che mai vorrà dire tutto questo? »13 Altri, invece, tra la folla dicevano ridendo: « Sono ubriachi, ecco che vuol dire! »14 Allora Pietro si fece avanti con gli altri undici apostoli e gridò loro: « Ascoltate bene, tutti, stranieri e abitanti di Gerusalemme!15 Non è vero che questi uomini sono ubriachi! La gente non si ubriaca alle nove di mattina!16 No, no… ciò che avete visto questa mattina fu predetto secoli fa dal profeta Gioele:17 “Negli ultimi giorni”, dice Dio, “verserò il mio Spirito Santo su tutti gli uomini. I vostri figli e le vostre figlie faranno profezie, i vostri giovani avranno delle visioni e i vostri vecchi dei sogni.18 Sì, lo Spirito Santo scenderà su tutti quelli che mi servono, uomini e donne, e tutti faranno profezie.19 Farò cose straordinarie lassù nel cielo e prodigi giù sulla terra: sangue, fuoco e nuvole di fumo.20 Il sole si oscurerà e la luna diventerà rosso sangue, prima che venga il giorno del Signore, giorno grande e glorioso!21 Allora, chiunque avrà invocato la pietà del Signore, sarà salvo!”22 Israeliti, ascoltate! Come ben sapete, Dio approvò pubblicamente Gesù di Nazaret con i miracoli meravigliosi che fece per mezzo di lui.23 Parlo dello stesso Gesù che, secondo il piano prestabilito di Dio, voi avete ucciso con la complicità di uomini malvagi, inchiodandolo ad una croce!24 Ma Dio lo ha liberato dagli orrori della morte, facendolo risuscitare. Non era possibile, infatti, che la morte potesse dominare Gesù!25 A lui si riferiva il re Davide, quando disse: “So che il Signore è sempre con me. Non sarò mai scosso, perché Egli mi è accanto.26 Ecco perché il mio cuore trabocca di gioia, e la mia bocca canta le sue lodi.27 Perché tu non abbandonerai l’anima mia in potere della morte, né permetterai che il tuo Santo imputridisca nella tomba.28 Tu mi mostri il sentiero della vita donandomi la gioia della tua presenza e la beatitudine di vivere con Te per sempre”.29 Fratelli, pensate! Con queste parole Davide non si riferiva a se stesso, infatti, egli morì, fu sepolto e, ancor oggi, c’è la sua tomba fra noi.30 Ma Davide era un profeta e sapeva che Dio gli aveva promesso, con un giuramento, che uno dei suoi discendenti sarebbe stato il Messia che doveva sedere sul suo trono.31 Con questa predizione Davide annunciò la risurrezione del Messia, non solo, disse anche che egli non sarebbe stato abbandonato nel mondo dei morti, né il suo corpo si sarebbe decomposto.32 Davide parlava di Gesù, che Dio ha fatto risorgere, ed è di questo fatto che noi tutti siamo testimoni.33 Ora egli occupa un posto d’onore in cielo, accanto a Dio stesso, ed ha ricevuto dal Padre l’autorità di mandare lo Spirito Santo, che era stato promesso, lo stesso Spirito che oggi vedete e ascoltate.34 No, Davide non si riferiva a se stesso con quelle parole, non fu Davide infatti che salì in cielo, eppure egli stesso dice: “Dio parlò al mio Signore, il Messia, e gli disse: Siedi qui, al posto d’onore, accanto a me,35 finché non ti sottometta completamente i tuoi nemici e ne faccia lo sgabello dei tuoi piedi”.36 Perciò, tutto Israele sappia, senza ombra di dubbio, che Dio ha fatto Signore e Messia proprio questo Gesù che voi avete crocifisso! »37 Le parole di Pietro commossero profondamente i presenti: « Fratelli, che dobbiamo fare? » chiesero a Pietro e agli altri apostoli.38 Pietro rispose: « Pentitevi e rivolgetevi a Dio. Poi fatevi battezzare nel nome di Gesù Cristo per ottenere il perdono dei vostri peccati. Allora anche voi riceverete il dono dello Spirito Santo,39 perché Cristo lo ha promesso per voi, per i vostri figli e perfino per quelli che abitano in paesi lontani! Sì per tutti quelli che il Signore, nostro Dio, chiamerà ».40 Poi Pietro, con molti argomenti, cercava di convincerli e li ammoniva, dicendo: « Sal-vatevi dai malvagi di questa generazione corrotta! »41 E quelli che credettero alle parole di Pietro furono battezzati; quel giorno furono circa tremila.42 I nuovi credenti, dopo essersi aggregati agli altri, erano assidui nell’insegnamento degli apostoli, nell’unione fraterna, nella frazione del pane e nella preghiera.43 Tutti erano presi da profondo timore e gli apostoli facevano molti miracoli.44 I credenti vivevano insieme e tenevano tutto in comune.45 Dopo aver venduto ciò che possedevano, lo dividevano con gli altri, secondo le necessità di ciascuno.46-47 Ogni giorno, tutti insieme, andavano al tempio, poi, per spezzare il pane, s’incontravano nelle case a piccoli gruppi e mangiavano insieme, con grande gioia e gratitudine, lodando Dio. Tutta la città li guardava di buon occhio e, ogni giorno, Dio aggiungeva al loro gruppo tutti quelli che erano sulla via della salvezza.

Acts 2

1 And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place.2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.3 And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.6 And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying, Behold, are not all these that speak Galilaeans?8 And how hear we, every man in our own language wherein we were born?9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God.12 And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this?13 But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine.14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, saying, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words.15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is but the third hour of the day.16 but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:

18 Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

19 And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day.

21 And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;23 him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.25 For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

26 Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope:

27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

28 Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.

29 Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne;31 he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.32 This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses.33 Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear.34 For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

35 Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?38 And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.39 For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.40 And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.41 They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added unto them in that day about three thousand souls.42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers.43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;45 and they sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all, according as any man had need.46 And day by day, continuing stedfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart,47 praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to them day by day those that were saved.
