حَنانیا و سَفیره

1 و امّا شخصی حَنانیا نام با همسرش سَفیره مِلکی را فروخته،2 بخشی از بهای آن را با آگاهی کاملِ زنش نگاه داشت و مابقی را آورده، پیش پای رسولان نهاد.3 پِطرُس به او گفت: «ای حَنانیا، چرا گذاشتی شیطان دلت را چنین پر سازد که به روح‌القدس دروغ بگویی و بخشی از بهای زمین را برای خود نگاه داری؟4 مگر پیش از فروش از آنِ خودت نبود؟ و آیا پس از فروش نیز بهایش در اختیار خودت نبود؟ چه چیز تو را بر آن داشت که چنین کنی؟ تو نه به انسان، بلکه به خدا دروغ گفتی!»5 چون حَنانیا این سخنان را شنید، بر زمین افتاد و جان سپرد! ترسی شدید بر همۀ آنان که این را شنیدند مستولی شد.6 آنگاه جوانان پیش آمدند و او را در کفن پیچیدند و بیرون برده، دفن کردند.7 نزدیک سه ساعت بعد، زنِ او بی‌خبر از ماجرا وارد شد.

8 پِطرُس از او پرسید: «مرا بگو که آیا زمین را به همین بها فروختید؟»
سَفیره پاسخ داد: «بله، به همین بها.»9 پِطرُس به او گفت: «چرا با یکدیگر همدست شدید تا روح خداوند را بیازمایید؟ پاهای آنان که شوهرت را دفن کردند هم‌اکنون بر آستانۀ در است و تو را نیز بیرون خواهند برد.»10 در دم، سَفیره نیز پیش پاهای پِطرُس افتاد و جان سپرد. چون جوانان وارد شدند، او را نیز مرده یافتند. پس بیرونش برده، کنار شوهرش دفن کردند.11 آنگاه ترسی عظیم بر تمامی کلیسا و همۀ آنان که این را شنیدند، مستولی شد.

آیات و معجزات رسولان

12 آیات و معجزات بسیار به‌دست رسولان در میان قوم به‌ظهور می‌رسید و ایمانداران همگی یکدل در ایوان سلیمان گرد می‌آمدند.13 امّا از دیگران کسی جرئت نمی‌کرد به آنها نزدیک شود، هر‌چند مردمان همگی ایشان را بسیار محترم می‌داشتند.14 شمار بس فزونتری از مردان و زنان ایمان آورده، به خداوند می‌پیوستند،15 تا جایی که حتی بیماران را به میدانهای شهر می‌آوردند و آنان را بر بسترها و تختها می‌خواباندند تا چون پِطرُس از آنجا می‌گذرد، دست‌کم سایه‌اش بر برخی از آنان افتد.16 نیز مردم دسته‌دسته از شهرهای اطراف اورشلیم می‌آمدند و بیماران و رنجدیدگانِ ارواح پلید را می‌آوردند، و همه شفا می‌یافتند.

آزار رسولان

17 امّا کاهن اعظم و همۀ همکارانش که از فرقۀ صَدّوقی بودند، از فرط حسد دست به‌کار شدند18 و رسولان را گرفته، به زندان عمومی افکندند.19 ولی شب‌هنگام، فرشتۀ خداوند درهای زندان را گشود و ایشان را بیرون آورد20 و گفت: «بروید و در معبد بایستید و پیام کامل این حیات را به مردم بگویید.»

21 پس سحرگاهان بنا‌بر آنچه بدیشان گفته شده بود به معبد درآمدند و به تعلیم مردم پرداختند.
چون کاهن اعظم و همکارانش آمدند، اهل شورا و تمامی مشایخ اسرائیل را فراخواندند و کسانی فرستادند تا رسولان را از زندان بیاورند.22 امّا چون مأموران وارد زندان شدند، رسولان را نیافتند. پس بازگشته، خبر دادند که23 «درهای زندان محکم بسته بود و نگهبانان نیز مقابل درها ایستاده بودند. ولی چون درها را گشودیم، هیچ‌کس را در زندان نیافتیم.»24 با شنیدن این خبر، فرماندۀ نگهبانانِ معبد و سران کاهنان حیران مانده، به فکر فرو‌‌رفتند که «عاقبت این کار چه خواهد شد؟»25 در این هنگام، کسی آمد و به آنها خبر داده، گفت: «آنها که به زندانشان افکنده بودید، اکنون در معبد ایستاده‌اند و مردم را تعلیم می‌دهند.»26 پس فرماندۀ نگهبانانِ معبد با مأموران رفتند و رسولان را آوردند، لیکن نه به اجبار، زیرا بیم داشتند مردم سنگسارشان کنند.27 چون رسولان را آوردند، ایشان را در برابر شورا به‌پا داشتند. آنگاه کاهن اعظم از ایشان پرسید:28 «مگر شما را منع اکید نکردیم که دیگر به این نام تعلیم ندهید؟ ولی شما اورشلیم را با تعلیم خود پر ساخته‌اید و می‌خواهید خون این مرد را به گردن ما بیندازید.»29 پِطرُس و رسولان دیگر پاسخ دادند: «خدا را باید بیش از انسان اطاعت کرد.30 خدای پدران ما، همان عیسی را که شما بر صلیب کشیده، کشتید، از مردگان برخیزانید31 و او را به‌دست راست خود بالا برده، سرور و نجات‌دهنده ساخت تا قوم اسرائیل را توبه و آمرزش گناهان بخشد.32 و ما شاهدان این امور هستیم، چنانکه روح‌القدس نیز هست که خدا او را به مطیعان خود عطا کرده است.»33 چون این سخنان را شنیدند چنان برآشفتند که خواستند ایشان را بکشند.34 امّا شخصی از فرقۀ فَریسی، گامالائیل نام، که معلّم شریعت بود و مورد احترام همه، در مجلس به‌پا خاست و دستور داد رسولان را چند لحظه بیرون برند.35 سپس به حاضران گفت: «ای اسرائیلیان، مواظب باشید چه می‌خواهید با این اشخاص بکنید.36 چندی پیش، مردی تِئوداس نام برخاست که ادعا می‌کرد کسی است، و حدود چهارصد تن نیز به وی پیوستند. ولی او کشته شد و پیروانش نیز همه تار‌و‌مار شدند.37 پس از او، یهودای جلیلی در زمان سرشماری قیام کرد و جمعی را به‌دنبال خود کشید. امّا او نیز از میان برداشته شد و پیروانش پراکنده شدند.38 پس در خصوص این مسئله نیز به شما توصیه می‌کنم که دست از این افراد بردارید و آنان را به حال خود واگذارید. زیرا اگر قصد و عملشان از انسان باشد، بی‌گمان راه به‌جایی نخواهند برد.39 امّا اگر از خدا باشد، نمی‌توانید آنان را از میان بردارید، زیرا در آن صورت با خدا می‌جنگید!»40 پس متقاعد شدند و رسولان را فراخوانده، تازیانه زدند و منع کردند که دیگر به نام عیسی سخنی نگویند، آنگاه اجازه دادند بروند.41 رسولان شادی‌کنان از حضور اهل شورا بیرون رفتند، زیرا شایسته شمرده شده بودند که به‌خاطر آن نام اهانت ببینند.42 و هیچ روزی، چه در معبد و چه در خانه‌ها، از تعلیم و بشارت دربارۀ اینکه عیسی همان مسیح است، دست نکشیدند.

ACTS 5

Peter Condemns //Ananias and Sapphira

1 Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property.

2 But they agreed to cheat and keep some of the money for themselves.
So when Ananias took the rest of the money to the apostles, 3 Peter said, “Why has Satan made you keep back some of the money from the sale of the property? Why have you lied to the Holy Spirit?

4 The property was yours before you sold it, and even after you sold it, the money was still yours. What made you do such a thing? You didn't lie to people. You lied to God!”
5  t As soon as Ananias heard this, he dropped dead, and everyone who heard about it was frightened.

6 Some young men came in and wrapped up his body. Then they took it out and buried it.
7 Three hours later Sapphira came in, but she did not know what had happened to her husband.

8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, did you sell the property for this amount?”
“Yes,” she answered, “that's the amount.”
9 Then Peter said, “Why did the two of you agree to test the Lord's Spirit? The men who buried Ananias are by the door, and they will carry you out!”

10 At once she fell at Peter's feet and died.
When the young men came back in, they found Sapphira lying there dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

11 The church members were afraid, and so was everyone else who heard what had happened.

Peter's Unusual Power

13 No one outside their group dared join them, even though everyone liked them very much.
14 Many men and women started having faith in the Lord. 15 Then sick people were brought out to the road and placed on mats. It was hoped that Peter would walk by, and his shadow would fall on them and heal them.

16 A lot of people living in the towns near Jerusalem brought those who were sick or troubled by evil spirits, and they were all healed.

Trouble for the Apostles

21 So they went into the temple before sunrise and started teaching.
The high priest and his men called together their council, which included all of Israel's leaders. Then they ordered the apostles to be brought to them from the jail. 22 The temple police who were sent to the jail did not find the apostles. They returned and said, 23 “We found the jail locked tight and the guards standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors and went in, we didn't find anyone there.”

24 The captain of the temple police and the chief priests listened to their report, but they did not know what to think about it.
25 Just then someone came in and said, “Now those men you put in jail are in the temple, teaching the people!”

26 The captain went with some of the temple police and brought the apostles back. But they did not use force. They were afraid that the people might start throwing stones at them.
27 When the apostles were brought before the council, the high priest said to them,

28 t “We told you plainly not to teach in the name of Jesus. But look what you have done! You have been teaching all over Jerusalem, and you are trying to blame us for his death.”

29 Peter and the apostles replied:
We don't obey people. We obey God. 30 You killed Jesus by nailing him to a cross. But the God our ancestors worshiped raised him to life 31 and made him our Leader and Savior. Then God gave him a place at his right side, t so that the people of Israel would turn back to him and be forgiven.

32 We are here to tell you about all this, and so is the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to everyone who obeys God.
33 When the council members heard this, they became so angry they wanted to kill the apostles. 34 But one of the members was the Pharisee Gamaliel, a highly respected teacher. He ordered the apostles to be taken out of the room for a little while.

35 Then he said to the council:
Men of Israel, be careful what you do with these men.

36 Not long ago Theudas claimed to be someone important, and about 400 men joined him. But he was killed, and all his followers were scattered. That was the end of that.

37 Later, when the people of our nation were being counted, Judas from Galilee showed up. A lot of people followed him, but he was killed, and all his followers were scattered.
38 So I advise you to stay away from these men. Leave them alone. If what they are planning is something of their own doing, it will fail.

39 t But if God is behind it, you cannot stop it anyway, unless you want to fight against God.
The council members agreed with what he said,

40 and they called the apostles back in. They had them beaten with a whip and warned them not to speak in the name of Jesus. Then they let them go.
41 The apostles left the council and were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer for the sake of Jesus. 42 Every day they spent time in the temple and in one home after another. They never stopped teaching and telling the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
