Ananias og Saffira
1 t Ein mann som heitte Ananias, og Saffira, kona hans, selde ein eigedom. 2 Men han gøymde unna ein del av pengane, og kona visste om det. Så kom han med resten og la det ved føtene til apostlane. 3 t Då sa Peter: «Ananias, kvifor har Satan fylt hjartet ditt, så du laug for Den heilage ande og heldt att noko av det du fekk for jorda di? 4 Var ho ikkje di så lenge du hadde henne? Og når du så hadde selt, rådde du ikkje sjølv over pengane? Kvifor lét du dette få rom i hjartet ditt? Det er ikkje menneske du har loge for, men Gud.» 5 Då Ananias høyrde dette, fall han om og døydde. Og det kom redsle over alle som høyrde om det.
6 Nokre unge menn kom og sveipte den døde. Så bar dei han ut og gravla han.
7 Om lag tre timar seinare kom kona hans inn. Ho visste ikkje kva som hadde hendt. 8 Peter spurde henne: «Sei meg, var dette alt de fekk for jorda?» «Ja», svara ho, «det var alt.» 9 t Då sa Peter til henne: «Korleis kunne de bli samde om å setja Herrens Ande på prøve? Høyr stega utanfor døra. Det er dei som har gravlagt mannen din. No skal dei bera deg ut.» 10 Og straks fall ho om ved føtene hans og døydde. Dei unge mennene kom inn og fann henne død, og dei bar henne ut og gravla henne ved sida av mannen.
11 t Og det kom stor otte over heile forsamlinga og alle som høyrde om det.Teikn og under
12 t Ved hendene til apostlane vart mange teikn og under gjorde i folket. Med eitt sinn heldt alle saman og møttest i Salomos søylehall. 13 t Ingen andre våga å slutta seg til dei, men folket sette dei høgt. 14 t Fleire og fleire trudde på Herren og vart lagde til flokken, både menn og kvinner i stort tal. 15 t Dei bar til og med sjuke ut på gatene og la dei på senger og bårer, så i det minste skuggen av Peter kunne falla på nokre av dei når han gjekk framom.
16 Også frå byane kring Jerusalem kom det folk i stort tal. Dei bar med seg sjuke og slike som var plaga av ureine ånder, og alle vart lækte.Nytt forhøyr
17 t Då greip øvstepresten inn, han og alle som heldt med han, det vil seia saddukearpartiet. Dei vart brennande harme, 18 greip apostlane og kasta dei i byfengselet. 19 t Men ein engel frå Herren opna fengselsportane om natta, leidde dei ut og sa: 20 t «Gå og still dykk opp på tempelplassen og forkynn for folket heile denne bodskapen om livet!»
21 Fordi dei hadde høyrt desse orda, gjekk dei til tempelet utpå morgonsida, og der underviste dei.
Samstundes kalla øvstepresten og mennene hans saman Rådet, heile eldsterådet i Israel, og sende bod til fengselet etter apostlane. 22 Men då vaktmennene kom dit, fann dei ikkje apostlane. Dei kom tilbake og melde: 23 «Vi fann fengselet forsvarleg stengt, og vaktene stod ved portane. Men då vi lét opp, fann vi ingen der inne.» 24 Denne meldinga gjorde overprestane og sjefen for tempelvakta rådville, og dei undra seg på kva dette kunne vera. 25 I det same kom det ein og fortalde: «Dei mennene de sette i fengsel, står no på tempelplassen og underviser folket.»
26 Sjefen for vakta og mennene hans drog då av stad og henta dei, men utan å bruka makt; dei var redde for å bli steina av folket.
27 Så tok dei apostlane med seg og stilte dei fram for Rådet. Og øvstepresten tok til å spørja dei ut: 28 t «Forbaud vi dykk ikkje strengt å undervisa om dette namnet? Og no har de fylt heile Jerusalem med læra dykkar og vil leggja skulda for blodet til denne mannen over på oss.» 29 t Men Peter og apostlane svara: «Ein skal lyda Gud meir enn menneske! 30 t Våre fedrars Gud reiste opp Jesus, han som de hengde på eit tre og drap. 31 t Han har Gud lyft opp og sett ved si høgre hand som fyrste og frelsar, for at han kan gje Israel omvending og tilgjeving for syndene.
32 t Om alt dette kan vi vitna, vi og Den heilage ande som Gud har gjeve dei som lyder han.»
33 Då dei høyrde dette, vart dei rasande og sette seg føre å drepa dei. 34 tt Men ein farisear som heitte Gamaliel, ein lovlærar som heile folket sette høgt, reiste seg i Rådet, bad dei føra mennene ut ei lita stund 35 og sa: «Israelittar! Tenk dykk vel om før de gjer noko med desse mennene! 36 t For ei tid sidan stod Tevdas fram. Han gav seg ut for å vera noko stort, og om lag fire hundre menn slo lag med han. Men han vart drepen, og heile flokken av tilhengjarar løyste seg opp og vart borte. 37 t Etter han, på den tid det var folketeljing, kom galilearen Judas. Han drog med seg mykje folk, men han mista livet, og alle tilhengjarane hans vart spreidde. 38 Og no seier eg dykk: Hald dykk unna desse mennene! Lat dei gå! For dersom dette er menneskevilje og menneskeverk, blir det ingenting av det. 39 Men er det av Gud, kan de ikkje stansa dei. Det kunne visa seg at de strider mot Gud.» Dei følgde rådet hans 40 t og kalla apostlane inn att. Dei lét dei piska, forbaud dei å tala i Jesu namn og lét dei så gå. 41 t Dei gjekk bort frå Rådet, glade fordi dei var rekna verdige til å lida vanære for Namnet skuld. 42 t Men dei lét seg ikkje stansa. Både i tempelet og i heimane heldt dei dag etter dag fram med å undervisa og forkynna evangeliet om at Jesus er Messias.
ACTS 5
Peter Condemns //Ananias and Sapphira
1 Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property.
2 But they agreed to cheat and keep some of the money for themselves.
So when Ananias took the rest of the money to the apostles, 3 Peter said, “Why has Satan made you keep back some of the money from the sale of the property? Why have you lied to the Holy Spirit?
4 The property was yours before you sold it, and even after you sold it, the money was still yours. What made you do such a thing? You didn't lie to people. You lied to God!”
5 t As soon as Ananias heard this, he dropped dead, and everyone who heard about it was frightened.
6 Some young men came in and wrapped up his body. Then they took it out and buried it.
7 Three hours later Sapphira came in, but she did not know what had happened to her husband.
8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, did you sell the property for this amount?”
“Yes,” she answered, “that's the amount.”
9 Then Peter said, “Why did the two of you agree to test the Lord's Spirit? The men who buried Ananias are by the door, and they will carry you out!”
10 At once she fell at Peter's feet and died.
When the young men came back in, they found Sapphira lying there dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
11 The church members were afraid, and so was everyone else who heard what had happened.Peter's Unusual Power
12 The apostles worked many miracles and wonders among the people. All of the Lord's followers often met in the part of the temple known as Solomon's Porch.t
13 No one outside their group dared join them, even though everyone liked them very much.
14 Many men and women started having faith in the Lord. 15 Then sick people were brought out to the road and placed on mats. It was hoped that Peter would walk by, and his shadow would fall on them and heal them.
16 A lot of people living in the towns near Jerusalem brought those who were sick or troubled by evil spirits, and they were all healed.Trouble for the Apostles
17 The high priest and all the other Sadducees who were with him became jealous. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the city jail. 19 But that night an angel from the Lord opened the doors of the jail and led the apostles out. The angel said, 20 “Go to the temple and tell the people everything about this new life.”
21 So they went into the temple before sunrise and started teaching.
The high priest and his men called together their council, which included all of Israel's leaders. Then they ordered the apostles to be brought to them from the jail. 22 The temple police who were sent to the jail did not find the apostles. They returned and said, 23 “We found the jail locked tight and the guards standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors and went in, we didn't find anyone there.”
24 The captain of the temple police and the chief priests listened to their report, but they did not know what to think about it.
25 Just then someone came in and said, “Now those men you put in jail are in the temple, teaching the people!”
26 The captain went with some of the temple police and brought the apostles back. But they did not use force. They were afraid that the people might start throwing stones at them.
27 When the apostles were brought before the council, the high priest said to them,
28 t “We told you plainly not to teach in the name of Jesus. But look what you have done! You have been teaching all over Jerusalem, and you are trying to blame us for his death.”
29 Peter and the apostles replied:
We don't obey people. We obey God. 30 You killed Jesus by nailing him to a cross. But the God our ancestors worshiped raised him to life 31 and made him our Leader and Savior. Then God gave him a place at his right side, t so that the people of Israel would turn back to him and be forgiven.
32 We are here to tell you about all this, and so is the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to everyone who obeys God.
33 When the council members heard this, they became so angry they wanted to kill the apostles. 34 But one of the members was the Pharisee Gamaliel, a highly respected teacher. He ordered the apostles to be taken out of the room for a little while.
35 Then he said to the council:
Men of Israel, be careful what you do with these men.
36 Not long ago Theudas claimed to be someone important, and about 400 men joined him. But he was killed, and all his followers were scattered. That was the end of that.
37 Later, when the people of our nation were being counted, Judas from Galilee showed up. A lot of people followed him, but he was killed, and all his followers were scattered.
38 So I advise you to stay away from these men. Leave them alone. If what they are planning is something of their own doing, it will fail.
39 t But if God is behind it, you cannot stop it anyway, unless you want to fight against God.
The council members agreed with what he said,
40 and they called the apostles back in. They had them beaten with a whip and warned them not to speak in the name of Jesus. Then they let them go.
41 The apostles left the council and were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer for the sake of Jesus. 42 Every day they spent time in the temple and in one home after another. They never stopped teaching and telling the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
