Ananias și Safira

1 Dar un om pe nume Ananias, a vândut o proprietate împreună cu soția lui, Safira,2 și a păstrat pentru sine o parte din bani cu știrea soției lui; apoi a adus cealaltă parte din bani și a pus-o la picioarele apostolilor.3 Petru i-a zis: „Ananias, de ce ți-a umplut Satant inima ca să-L minți pe Duhul Sfânt, păstrând pentru tine o parte din prețul ogorului?4  Dacă rămânea nevândut, nu rămânea el al tău? Și, după ce a fost vândut, nu erau banii la dispoziția ta? De ce ai pus la cale acest lucru în inima ta? Nu pe oameni i-ai mințit, ci pe Dumnezeu!“5 Când a auzit Ananias aceste cuvinte, a căzut la pământ și și-a dat duhul. O mare frică i-a cuprins pe toți cei ce auziseră aceste lucruri .6 Cei tineri s-au ridicat, l-au învelit, l-au scos afară și l-au îngropat.

7 Cam după trei ore, a intrat și soția lui, fără să știe ce se întâmplase.

8 Petru a întrebat-o:
– Spune-mi, cu atât ați vândut ogorul?
Ea i-a răspuns:
– Da, cu atât.

9 Atunci Petru i-a zis:
– De ce v-ați înțeles între voi să-L puneți la încercare pe Duhul Domnului? Iată, picioarele celor ce l-au îngropat pe soțul tău sunt la ușă și te vor duce și pe tine!

10 Dintr-odată, ea a căzut la picioarele lui și și-a dat duhul. Când au intrat tinerii, au găsit-o moartă; au dus-o afară și au îngropat-o lângă soțul ei.11 O mare frică a cuprins toată bisericat și pe toți cei ce auziseră aceste lucruri.

Prin apostoli se fac semne și minuni

12 Prin mâinile apostolilor se făceau multe semne și minuni în popor. Toți se adunau în același gând în Porticul lui Solomon13 și nici unul din ceilalți nu îndrăznea să li se alăture, deși poporul îi lăuda foarte mult.14 Totuși, tot mai mulți oameni , o mulțime de bărbați și femei care credeau în Domnul, erau adăugați la numărul lor ,15 astfel că oamenii îi scoteau pe străzi pe cei neputincioși și-i puneau pe tărgi și pe așternuturi, pentru ca, atunci când trecea Petru, măcar umbra lui să cadă peste vreunul dintre ei.16 Mulțimea, de asemenea, se aduna din cetățile din jurul Ierusalimului, aducându-i pe cei bolnavi și pe cei chinuiți de duhuri necurate; și toți erau vindecați.

Apostolii persecutați

17 Însă marele preot și toți cei ce erau împreună cu el, adică partida saducheilor, s-au sculat plini de invidie,18 au pus mâinile pe apostoli și i-au băgat în închisoarea publică.19 Dar un înger al Domnului a deschis ușile închisorii în timpul nopții, i-a condus afară și le-a zis:20 „Duceți-vă, stați în Templu și spuneți poporului toate cuvintele vieții acesteia!“21 Auzind aceasta, ei au intrat în Templu dis-de-dimineață și au început să dea învățătură. Când a sosit marele preot și cei ce erau împreună cu el, au convocat Sinedriul, adică toată adunarea bătrânilort fiilor lui Israel, și au trimis după apostoli la închisoare, ca să fie aduși.22 Dar gărzile, când au sosit acolo , nu i-au găsit în închisoare, așa că s-au întors și au anunțat23 spunând: „Închisoarea am găsit-o încuiată cu toată grija, iar pe gardieni i-am găsit stând la uși, dar când am deschis, n-am găsit pe nimeni înăuntru!“24 Când au auzit cuvintele acestea, atât comandantul gărzii Templului, cât și conducătorii preoților au rămas înmărmuriți din pricina lor și au început să se întrebe ce se întâmplă.25 Cineva însă a venit și i-a anunțat: „Iată că bărbații pe care i-ați băgat în închisoare stau în Templu și dau învățătură poporului!“26 Atunci comandantul s-a dus împreună cu gărzile și i-a adus, însă nu cu forța, pentru că se temeau să nu fie loviți cu pietre de popor.

27 I-au adus și i-au pus să stea înaintea Sinedriului. Marele preot i-a întrebat

28 zicând:
– (Nu)t v-am poruncit răspicat să nu mai dați învățătură în Numele acesta? Dar iată că voi ați umplut Ierusalimul cu învățătura voastră și vreți să aruncați peste noi vina pentru sângele Acestui Om!

29 Petru și ceilalți apostoli i-au răspuns:
– Trebuie să ascultăm mai mult de Dumnezeu decât de oameni!30 Dumnezeul strămoșilor noștri L-a înviat pe Isus, Cel pe Care voi L-ați prins și L-ați ucis pironindu-L pe lemnt!31 Pe El, Dumnezeu L-a înălțat la dreapta Sa, ca Prinț și Mântuitor, ca să dea lui Israel pocăință și iertare de păcate!32 Iar noi suntem martori ai acestor lucruri și, de asemenea, și Duhul Sfânt pe Care L-a dat Dumnezeu celor ce ascultă de El!

33 Când au auzit ei acestea, s-au înfuriat și au vrut să-i omoare.34 Dar un fariseut pe nume Gamalielt, un cărturar respectat de tot poporul, s-a ridicat în Sinedriu și a poruncit ca oamenii să fie scoși afară puțin.35 Apoi le-a zis: „Bărbați israeliți, luați seama ce aveți de gând să le faceți acestor oameni!36 Căci, nu demult, s-a ridicat Teudas, care spunea despre sine că este cineva și căruia i s-au alăturat aproape patru sute de bărbați. El a fost omorât, iar toți cei ce-l urmaseră au fost împrăștiați și nu s-a ales nimic de ei.37 După el, pe vremea recensământuluit, s-a ridicat Iuda, galileeanul, și a tras pe popor după el. Dar și el a pierit, iar cei ce-l urmaseră au fost împrăștiați.38 Iar acum, eu vă spun: depărtați-vă de oamenii aceștia și lăsați-i în pace ! Dacă planul sau lucrarea aceasta este de la oameni, i se va pune capăt,39 dar dacă este de la Dumnezeu nu-i veți putea opri pe acești oameni ! Să nu vă pomeniți că luptați împotriva lui Dumnezeu!“40 Ei au fost convinși de el. Apoi i-au chemat pe apostoli, i-au biciuit, le-au poruncit să nu mai vorbească în Numele lui Isus și le-au dat drumul.41 Prin urmare, apostolii au plecat dinaintea Sinedriului, bucurându-se că au fost considerați vrednici să fie înjosiți pentru Numele lui Isus.42 Și, în fiecare zi, în Templu și prin case, nu încetau să dea învățătură și să ducă vestea bună că Isus este Cristosul.

ACTS 5

Peter Condemns //Ananias and Sapphira

1 Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property.

2 But they agreed to cheat and keep some of the money for themselves.
So when Ananias took the rest of the money to the apostles, 3 Peter said, “Why has Satan made you keep back some of the money from the sale of the property? Why have you lied to the Holy Spirit?

4 The property was yours before you sold it, and even after you sold it, the money was still yours. What made you do such a thing? You didn't lie to people. You lied to God!”
5  t As soon as Ananias heard this, he dropped dead, and everyone who heard about it was frightened.

6 Some young men came in and wrapped up his body. Then they took it out and buried it.
7 Three hours later Sapphira came in, but she did not know what had happened to her husband.

8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, did you sell the property for this amount?”
“Yes,” she answered, “that's the amount.”
9 Then Peter said, “Why did the two of you agree to test the Lord's Spirit? The men who buried Ananias are by the door, and they will carry you out!”

10 At once she fell at Peter's feet and died.
When the young men came back in, they found Sapphira lying there dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

11 The church members were afraid, and so was everyone else who heard what had happened.

Peter's Unusual Power

13 No one outside their group dared join them, even though everyone liked them very much.
14 Many men and women started having faith in the Lord. 15 Then sick people were brought out to the road and placed on mats. It was hoped that Peter would walk by, and his shadow would fall on them and heal them.

16 A lot of people living in the towns near Jerusalem brought those who were sick or troubled by evil spirits, and they were all healed.

Trouble for the Apostles

21 So they went into the temple before sunrise and started teaching.
The high priest and his men called together their council, which included all of Israel's leaders. Then they ordered the apostles to be brought to them from the jail. 22 The temple police who were sent to the jail did not find the apostles. They returned and said, 23 “We found the jail locked tight and the guards standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors and went in, we didn't find anyone there.”

24 The captain of the temple police and the chief priests listened to their report, but they did not know what to think about it.
25 Just then someone came in and said, “Now those men you put in jail are in the temple, teaching the people!”

26 The captain went with some of the temple police and brought the apostles back. But they did not use force. They were afraid that the people might start throwing stones at them.
27 When the apostles were brought before the council, the high priest said to them,

28 t “We told you plainly not to teach in the name of Jesus. But look what you have done! You have been teaching all over Jerusalem, and you are trying to blame us for his death.”

29 Peter and the apostles replied:
We don't obey people. We obey God. 30 You killed Jesus by nailing him to a cross. But the God our ancestors worshiped raised him to life 31 and made him our Leader and Savior. Then God gave him a place at his right side, t so that the people of Israel would turn back to him and be forgiven.

32 We are here to tell you about all this, and so is the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to everyone who obeys God.
33 When the council members heard this, they became so angry they wanted to kill the apostles. 34 But one of the members was the Pharisee Gamaliel, a highly respected teacher. He ordered the apostles to be taken out of the room for a little while.

35 Then he said to the council:
Men of Israel, be careful what you do with these men.

36 Not long ago Theudas claimed to be someone important, and about 400 men joined him. But he was killed, and all his followers were scattered. That was the end of that.

37 Later, when the people of our nation were being counted, Judas from Galilee showed up. A lot of people followed him, but he was killed, and all his followers were scattered.
38 So I advise you to stay away from these men. Leave them alone. If what they are planning is something of their own doing, it will fail.

39 t But if God is behind it, you cannot stop it anyway, unless you want to fight against God.
The council members agreed with what he said,

40 and they called the apostles back in. They had them beaten with a whip and warned them not to speak in the name of Jesus. Then they let them go.
41 The apostles left the council and were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer for the sake of Jesus. 42 Every day they spent time in the temple and in one home after another. They never stopped teaching and telling the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
