Se nombran siete ayudantes
1 El número de seguidores de Jesús aumentaba más y más. Pero en esa época los seguidores judíos que hablaban griego se quejaban de los seguidores judíos que hablaban arameot. Decían que sus viudas no estaban recibiendo la ayuda diaria que les correspondía.
2 Los doce apóstoles llamaron a todo el grupo de seguidores y le dijeron:
—No es correcto que nosotros descuidemos la enseñanza de la palabra de Dios por estar administrando la ayuda diaria.3 Entonces, hermanos, elijan de entre ustedes a siete hombres de toda su confianza. Ellos deben tener mucha sabiduría y estar llenos del Espíritu Santo. Nosotros les encargaremos ese trabajo.
4 Así podremos dedicar nuestro tiempo a orar y a enseñar la palabra de Dios.
5 A todo el grupo le gustó la idea. Entonces eligieron a estos siete hombres: Esteban, hombre de mucha fe y lleno del Espíritu Santo, Felipet, Prócoro, Nicanor, Timón, Parmenas y Nicolás, uno de Antioquía que se había hecho judío.
6 Ellos les presentaron los siete hombres a los apóstoles, quienes oraron por los recién elegidos y les impusieron las manos.t
7 La palabra de Dios se difundía más y más. El grupo de seguidores en Jerusalén crecía muchísimo, y hasta un gran número de sacerdotes obedeció el mensaje de fe.
Arresto de Esteban
8 Esteban, lleno del poder y de la bendición de Dios, hacía grandes maravillas y señales milagrosas entre el pueblo.9 Pero unos de la sinagogat llamada Los Libertost se oponían a él. Estos judíos eran de Cirene y Alejandría y se unieron con unos de Cilicia y Asiat. Todos ellos empezaron a discutir con Esteban,10 pero no podían contradecirlo porque él tenía la sabiduría que le daba el Espíritu Santo.
11 Entonces les pagaron a algunos hombres para que dijeran: «Nosotros lo escuchamos hablando contra Moisést y contra Dios».
12 Así alborotaron al pueblo, a los ancianos líderes y a los maestros de la ley. Le cayeron de repente, lo agarraron y lo llevaron ante el Consejot.13 Presentaron unos testigos falsos contra Esteban, que dijeron: «Este hombre no deja de hablar en contra de este lugar sagrado y en contra de la ley.
14 Nosotros lo escuchamos decir que Jesús de Nazaret destruirá este lugar y cambiará las costumbres que Moisés nos dejó».
15 Todos los que estaban ahí se fijaron en Esteban y vieron que su cara parecía la de un ángel.
Acts 6
Choosing of the Seven
1 Now at this time while the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the tHellenistic Jews against the native Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food. 2 So the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said, "It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables.3 Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word."5 The statement found approval with the whole congregation; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a tproselyte from Antioch.6 And these they brought before the apostles; and after praying, they laid their hands on them.
7 The word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.
8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people.9 But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen, including both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and argued with Stephen.10 But they were unable to cope with the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.11 Then they secretly induced men to say, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God."12 And they stirred up the people, the elders and the scribes, and they came up to him and dragged him away and brought him before the Council.13 They put forward false witnesses who said, "This man incessantly speaks against this holy place and the Law;14 for we have heard him say that this Nazarene, Jesus, will destroy this place and alter the customs which Moses handed down to us."15 And fixing their gaze on him, all who were sitting in the Council saw his face like the face of an angel.
