A hét segítő testvér kiválasztása

1 Azokban a napokban a Jézust követő zsidó tanítványok száma egyre növekedett. A görögül beszélő tanítványok azonban panaszkodtak a héberül beszélőkre, mert a görögül beszélő özvegyasszonyokat nem osztották be a mindennapi szolgálatokra.

2 Ekkor a tizenkét apostol összehívta az egész gyülekezetet, és azt mondta: „Nem helyes, hogy Isten üzenetének szolgálatát elhanyagoljuk, és helyette mi szolgálunk fel az asztaloknál.

3 Ezért válasszatok ki magatok közül hét férfit, akikről a többieknek jó véleménye van, és akik telve vannak Szent Szellemmel és bölcsességgel. Rájuk fogjuk bízni ezt a munkát.

4 Mi pedig arra fordítjuk minden időnket, hogy imádkozzunk, Isten üzenetét tanítsuk és hirdessük.”

5 Ez a javaslat az egész csoportnak tetszett. Ekkor kiválasztották Istvánt, aki telve volt hittel és Szent Szellemmel, és Fülöpött, Prokhoroszt, Nikánórt, Timónt, Parmenászt és Nikoláoszt aki Antiókhiából jött, és felvette a zsidó vallást, és

6 az apostolok elé állították őket. Az apostolok pedig rájuk tették a kezüket,t és imádkoztak értük.

7 Isten üzenete egyre több és több embert ért el. Nagyon megnőtt a Jézust követő tanítványok száma Jeruzsálemben. Sőt, a papok közül is sokan engedelmeskedtek, és hittek Jézusban.

Istvánt elfogják

8 István telve volt Isten kegyelmével és erejével, ezért nagy csodákat és jeleket tett a nép között.

9 Azonban néhányan az úgynevezett szabadosok zsinagógájából, cirénei, alexandriai, ciliciai és ázsiai zsidók vitatkozni kezdtek Istvánnal.

10 De nem volt erejük, hogy ellenálljanak a bölcsességnek és a Szent Szellemnek, amellyel István beszélt.

11 Ekkor pénzt adtak néhány embernek, hogy mondják ezt: „Hallottuk Istvánt, amikor Mózest és Istent szidta és gyalázta!”

12 Ezzel megharagították az embereket, az idősebb zsidó vezetőket és a Törvény tanítóit. Ezek mind odarohantak Istvánhoz, letartóztatták, és a Főtanács elé állították.

13 Hamis tanúkat is hoztak, akik ezt mondták: „Ez az István mindig a Templom és a Törvény ellen beszél.

14 Mert hallottuk, amikor azt mondta, hogy a názáreti Jézus le fogja rombolni a Templomot, és megváltoztatja azokat a szokásokat, amelyeket Mózes parancsolt nekünk.”

15 Ekkor a Főtanácsban ülők mind Istvánra néztek, és látták, hogy az arca olyan, mint egy angyalé.

Acts 6

Choosing of the Seven

1 Now at this time while the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the tHellenistic Jews against the native Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food. 2 So the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said, "It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables.3 Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word."5 The statement found approval with the whole congregation; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a tproselyte from Antioch.6 And these they brought before the apostles; and after praying, they laid their hands on them.

7 The word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people.9 But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen, including both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and argued with Stephen.10 But they were unable to cope with the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.11 Then they secretly induced men to say, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God."12 And they stirred up the people, the elders and the scribes, and they came up to him and dragged him away and brought him before the Council.13 They put forward false witnesses who said, "This man incessantly speaks against this holy place and the Law;14 for we have heard him say that this Nazarene, Jesus, will destroy this place and alter the customs which Moses handed down to us."15 And fixing their gaze on him, all who were sitting in the Council saw his face like the face of an angel.
