La conversione di Saulo

1 Saulo, sempre spirante minacce e stragi contro i discepoli del Signore, si presentò al sommo sacerdote

2 e gli chiese delle lettere per le sinagoghe di Damasco affinché, se avesse trovato dei seguaci della Via t, uomini e donne, li potesse condurre legati a Gerusalemme.
3 E durante il viaggio, mentre si avvicinava a Damasco, avvenne che, all'improvviso, sfolgorò intorno a lui una luce dal cielo4 e, caduto in terra, udì una voce che gli diceva: «Saulo, Saulo, perché mi perseguiti?»5 Egli domandò: «Chi sei, Signore?» E il Signore: «Io sono Gesù, che tu perseguiti.6 Àlzati, entra nella città e ti sarà detto ciò che devi fare».7 Gli uomini che facevano il viaggio con lui rimasero fermi, senza parole, perché udivano la voce ma non vedevano nessuno.8 Saulo si alzò da terra ma, aperti gli occhi, non vedeva nulla; e quelli, conducendolo per mano, lo portarono a Damasco,

9 dove rimase tre giorni senza vedere e senza prendere né cibo né bevanda.
10 Or a Damasco c'era un discepolo di nome Anania; e il Signore gli disse in visione: «Anania!» Egli rispose: «Eccomi, Signore».11 E il Signore a lui: «Àlzati, va' nella strada chiamata "Diritta" e cerca in casa di Giuda uno di Tarso chiamato Saulo; poiché ecco, egli è in preghiera12 e ha visto {in visione} un uomo chiamato Anania entrare e imporgli le mani perché recuperi la vista».13 Ma Anania rispose: «Signore, ho sentito dire da molti, riguardo a quest'uomo, quanto male abbia fatto ai tuoi santi tin Gerusalemme.14 E qui ha ricevuto autorità dai capi dei sacerdoti per incatenare tutti coloro che invocano il tuo nome».15 Ma il Signore gli disse: «Va', perché egli è uno strumento che ho scelto per portare il mio nome davanti ai popoli, ai re e ai figli d'Israele;

16 perché io gli mostrerò quanto debba soffrire per il mio nome».
17 Allora Anania andò, entrò in quella casa, gli impose le mani e disse: «Fratello Saulo, il Signore, quel Gesù che ti è apparso sulla strada per la quale venivi, mi ha mandato perché tu riacquisti la vista e sia riempito di Spirito Santo».18 Inquell'istante gli caddero dagli occhi come delle squame e recuperò la vista; poi, alzatosi, fu battezzato.19 E, dopo aver preso cibo, gli ritornarono le forze. Rimase alcuni giorni insieme ai discepoli che erano a Damasco20 e si mise subito a predicare Gesù nelle sinagoghe, affermando che egli è il Figlio di Dio.21 Tutti quelli che lo ascoltavano si meravigliavano e dicevano: «Ma costui non è quel tale che a Gerusalemme infieriva contro quelli che invocano questo nome ed era venuto qua con lo scopo di condurli incatenati ai capi dei sacerdoti?»

22 Ma Saulo si fortificava sempre di più e confondeva i Giudei residenti a Damasco, dimostrando che Gesù è il Cristo.

Saulo a Gerusalemme e a Tarso; il persecutore perseguitato

23 Parecchi giorni dopo, i Giudei deliberarono di ucciderlo;24 ma Saulo venne a conoscenza del loro complotto. Essi facevano persino la guardia alle porte, giorno e notte, per ucciderlo;

25 ma i suoi discepoli lo presero di notte e lo calarono dalle mura dentro una cesta.
26 Quando fu giunto a Gerusalemme, tentava di unirsi ai discepoli; ma tutti avevano paura di lui, non credendo che fosse un discepolo.27 Allora Barnaba lo prese con sé, lo condusse dagli apostoli e raccontò loro come durante il viaggio aveva visto il Signore che gli aveva parlato, e come a Damasco aveva predicato con coraggio nel nome di Gesù.28 Da allora Saulo andava e veniva con loro in Gerusalemme, e predicava con franchezza nel nome del Signore;29 discorreva pure e discuteva con gli Ellenisti; ma questi cercavano di ucciderlo.

30 I fratelli, saputolo, lo condussero a Cesarea e di là lo mandarono a Tarso.

31 Così la chiesa, per tutta la Giudea, la Galilea e la Samaria, aveva pace ed era edificata; e, camminando nel timore del Signore e nella consolazione dello Spirito Santo, cresceva costantemente di numero.

Enea, il paralitico guarito da Pietro

32 Avvenne che mentre Pietro andava a far visita a tutti, si recò anche dai santi residenti a Lidda.33 Là trovò un uomo di nome Enea, che da otto anni giaceva paralitico in un letto.34 Pietro gli disse: «Enea, Gesù Cristo ti guarisce; àlzati e rifatti il letto». Egli subito si alzò.

35 E tutti gli abitanti di Lidda e di Saron lo videro e si convertirono al Signore.

Tabita risuscitata da Pietro

36 AIoppe c'era una discepola, di nome Tabita, che tradotto vuol dire: «Gazzella»; ella faceva molte opere buone ed elemosine.37 Proprio in quei giorni si ammalò e morì. E, dopo averla lavata, la deposero in una stanza di sopra.38 Poiché Lidda era vicina a Ioppe, i discepoli, udito che Pietro era là, mandarono due uomini per pregarlo: «Non esitare a venire da noi».39 Pietro allora si alzò e partì con loro. Appena arrivato, lo condussero nella stanza di sopra; e tutte le vedove si presentarono a lui piangendo, mostrandogli tutte le tuniche e i vestiti che Gazzella faceva mentre era con loro.40 Ma Pietro, fatti uscire tutti, si mise in ginocchio e pregò; e, voltatosi verso il corpo, disse: «Tabita, àlzati». Ella aprì gli occhi; e, visto Pietro, si mise seduta.41 Egli le diede la mano e la fece alzare; e, chiamati i santi e le vedove, la presentò loro in vita.42 Ciò fu risaputo in tutta Ioppe, e molti credettero nel Signore.

43 Pietro rimase molti giorni a Ioppe, presso un certo Simone, conciatore di pelli.

ACTS 9

Saul Becomes a Follower //of the Lord

(Acts 22.6-16; 26.12-18)

1 Saul kept on threatening to kill the Lord's followers. He even went to the high priest 2 and asked for letters to the leaders of the synagogues in Damascus. He did this because he wanted to arrest and take to Jerusalem any man or woman who had accepted the Lord's Way.t 3 When Saul had almost reached Damascus, a bright light from heaven suddenly flashed around him.

4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, “Saul! Saul! Why are you so cruel to me?”

5 “Who are you?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus,” the Lord answered. “I am the one you are so cruel to.

6 Now get up and go into the city, where you will be told what to do.”
7  t The men with Saul stood there speechless. They had heard the voice, but they had not seen anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, and when he opened his eyes, he could not see a thing. Someone then led him by the hand to Damascus,

9 and for three days he was blind and did not eat or drink.

10 A follower named Ananias lived in Damascus, and the Lord spoke to him in a vision. Ananias answered, “Lord, here I am.”
11 The Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the house of Judas on Straight Street. When you get there, you will find a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus. Saul is praying,

12 and he has seen a vision. He saw a man named Ananias coming to him and putting his hands on him, so he could see again.”
13 Ananias replied, “Lord, a lot of people have told me about the terrible things this man has done to your followers in Jerusalem.

14 Now the chief priests have given him the power to come here and arrest anyone who worships in your name.”
15 The Lord said to Ananias, “Go! I have chosen him to tell foreigners, kings, and the people of Israel about me.

16 I will show him how much he must suffer for worshiping in my name.”

17 Ananias left and went into the house where Saul was staying. Ananias placed his hands on him and said, “Saul, the Lord Jesus has sent me. He is the same one who appeared to you along the road. He wants you to be able to see and to be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
18  t Suddenly something like fish scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see. He got up and was baptized.

19 Then he ate and felt much better.

Saul Preaches in Damascus

21 Everyone who heard Saul was amazed and said, “Isn't this the man who caused so much trouble for those people in Jerusalem who worship in the name of Jesus? Didn't he come here to arrest them and take them to the chief priests?”

22 Saul preached with such power that he completely confused the Jewish people in Damascus, as he tried to show them that Jesus is the Messiah.
23  t Later some of them made plans to kill Saul, 24 but he found out about it. He learned that they were guarding the gates of the city day and night in order to kill him.

25 Then one night his followers let him down over the city wall in a large basket.

Saul in Jerusalem

27 Then Barnabas helped him by taking him to the apostles. He explained how Saul had seen the Lord and how the Lord had spoken to him. Barnabas also said when Saul was in Damascus, he had spoken bravely in the name of Jesus.
28 Saul moved about freely with the followers in Jerusalem and told everyone about the Lord. 29 He was always arguing with the Jews who spoke Greek, and so they tried to kill him.

30 But the followers found out about this and took Saul to Caesarea. From there they sent him to the city of Tarsus.

31 The church in Judea, Galilee, and Samaria now had a time of peace and kept on worshiping the Lord. The church became stronger, as the Holy Spirit encouraged it and helped it grow.

Peter Heals Aeneas

34 Peter said to Aeneas, “Jesus Christ has healed you! Get up and make up your bed.”t At once he stood up.

35 Many people in the towns of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas and became followers of the Lord.

Peter Brings Dorcas //Back to Life

39 At once, Peter went with them.
The men took Peter upstairs into the room. Many widows were there crying. They showed him the coats and clothes that Dorcas had made while she was still alive.
40 After Peter had sent everyone out of the room, he knelt down and prayed. Then he turned to the body of Dorcas and said, “Tabitha, get up!” The woman opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet.
Peter called in the widows and the other followers and showed them that Dorcas had been raised from death. 42 Everyone in Joppa heard what had happened, and many of them put their faith in the Lord. 43 Peter stayed on for a while in Joppa in the house of a man named Simon, who made leather.
