사울의 회개

(행 22:6-16; 26:12-18)

1  사울은 여전히 주님의 제자들을 위협하면서, 살기를 띠고 있었다. 그는 대제사장에게 가서, 2 다마스쿠스에 있는 여러 회당으로 보내는 편지를 써 달라고 하였다. 그는 그 ‘도’를 믿는 사람은 남자나 여자나 가리지 않고, 닥치는 대로 묶어서, 예루살렘으로 끌고 오려는 것이었다. 3 사울이 길을 가다가, 다마스쿠스 가까이에 이르렀을 때에, 갑자기 하늘에서 환한 빛이 그를 둘러 비추었다. 4 그는 땅에 엎어졌다. 그리고 그는 “사울아, 사울아, 네가 왜 나를 핍박하느냐?” 하는 음성을 들었다. 5 그래서 그가 “주님, 누구십니까?” 하고 물으니, “나는 네가 핍박하는 예수다. 6 일어나서, 성 안으로 들어가거라. 네가 해야 할 일을 일러 줄 사람이 있을 것이다” 하는 음성이 들려왔다. 7 그와 동행하는 사람들은 소리는 들었으나, 아무도 보이지는 않으므로, 말을 못하고 멍하게 서 있었다. 8 사울은 땅에서 일어나서 눈을 떴으나, 아무것도 볼 수가 없었다. 그래서 사람들이 그의 손을 끌고, 다마스쿠스로 데리고 갔다. 9 그는 사흘 동안 앞을 보지 못하는 상태에서, 먹지도 않고 마시지도 않았다. 10 그런데 다마스쿠스에는 아나니아라는 제자가 있었다. 주님께서 환상 가운데서 “아나니아야!” 하고 부르시니, 아나니아가 “주님, 여기 있습니다” 하고 대답하였다. 11 주님께서 아나니아에게 말씀하셨다. “일어나서 ‘곧은 길’이라 부르는 거리로 가서, 유다의 집에서 사울이라는 다소 사람을 찾아라. 그는 지금 기도하고 있다. 12 그는 [환상 속에] 아나니아라는 사람이 들어와서, 자기에게 손을 얹어 시력을 회복시켜 주는 것을 보았다.” 13 아나니아가 대답하였다. “주님, 그가 예루살렘에서 주님의 성도들에게 얼마나 해를 끼쳤는지를, 나는 많은 사람에게서 들었습니다. 14 그리고 그는 주님의 이름을 부르는 사람들을 잡아 갈 권한을 대제사장들에게서 받아 가지고, 여기에 와 있습니다.” 15 주님께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. “가거라, 그는 내 이름을 이방 사람들과 임금들과 이스라엘 자손들 앞에 가지고 갈, 내가 택한 내 그릇이다. 16 그가 내 이름을 위하여 얼마나 많은 고난을 받아야 할지를, 내가 그에게 보여주려고 한다.” 17 그래서 아나니아가 떠나서, 그 집에 들어가, 사울에게 손을 얹고 “형제 사울이여, 그대가 오는 도중에 그대에게 나타나신 주 예수께서 나를 보내셨소. 그것은 그대가 시력을 회복하고, 성령으로 충만하게 되도록 하시려는 것이오” 하고 말하였다. 18 곧 사울의 눈에서 비늘 같은 것이 떨어져 나가고, 그는 시력을 회복하였다. 그리고 그는 일어나서 t세례를 받고 19 음식을 먹고 힘을 얻었다.

사울이 다마스쿠스에서 전도하다

사울은 며칠 동안 다마스쿠스에 있는 제자들과 함께 지냈다. 20 그런 다음에 그는 곧 여러 회당에서 예수가 하나님의 아들이심을 선포하였다. 21 그 말을 듣는 사람들은 다 놀라서 말하였다. “이 사람은, 예루살렘에서 예수의 이름을 부르는 이들을 마구 죽이던, 바로 그 사람이 아닌가? 그가 여기 온 것도, 그들을 잡아서 대제사장들에게로 끌고 가려는 것이 아닌가?” 22 그러나 사울은 더욱 더 능력을 얻어서, 예수가 t그리스도이심을 증명하면서, 다마스쿠스에 사는 유대 사람들을 당황하게 하였다.

사울이 피신하다

23 여러 날이 지나서, 유대 사람들이 사울을 죽이기로 모의하였는데, 24 그들의 음모가 사울에게 알려졌다. 그들은 사울을 죽이려고, 밤낮으로 모든 성문을 지키고 있었다. 25 그러나 그의 제자들이 밤에 사울을 광주리에 담아서, 성 바깥으로 달아 내렸다.

사울이 예루살렘에 올라가다

26  사울이 예루살렘에 이르러서, 거기에 있는 제자들과 어울리려고 하였으나, 그들은 사울이 제자라는 사실을 믿을 수가 없어서, 모두들 그를 두려워하였다. 27 그러나 바나바는 사울을 맞아들여, 사도들에게로 데려가서, 사울이 길에서 주님을 본 일과, 주님께서 그에게 말씀하신 일과, 사울이 다마스쿠스에서 예수의 이름으로 담대히 말한 일을, 그들에게 이야기해 주었다. 28 그래서 사울은 제자들과 함께 지내면서, 예루살렘을 자유로 드나들며 주님의 이름으로 담대하게 말하였고, 29 그리스 말을 하는 유대 사람들과 말을 하고, 토론을 하기도 하였다. 그러나 유대 사람들은 사울을 죽이려고 꾀하였다. 30 t신도들이 이 일을 알고, 사울을 가이사랴로 데리고 내려가서, 다소로 보냈다. 31 그러는 동안에 교회는 유대와 갈릴리와 사마리아 온 지역에 걸쳐서 평화를 누리면서 튼튼히 서 갔고, 주님을 두려워하는 마음과 성령의 위로로 정진해서, 그 수가 점점 늘어갔다.

베드로가 중풍병 환자를 고치다

32  베드로는 사방을 두루 다니다가, 룻다에 내려가서, 거기에 사는 성도들도 방문하였다. 33 거기서 그는 팔 년 동안이나 중풍병으로 자리에 누워 있는 애니아라는 사람을 만났다. 34 베드로가 그에게 “애니아여, 예수 그리스도께서 그대를 고쳐 주십니다. 일어나서, 자리를 정돈하시오” 하고 말하니, 그는 곧 일어났다. 35 룻다와 샤론에 사는 모든 사람이 그를 보고 주님께로 돌아왔다.

베드로가 도르가를 살리다

36 그런데 욥바에 t다비다라는 여제자가 있었다. 그 이름은 그리스 말로 번역하면 도르가인데, 이 여자는 착한 일과 구제사업을 많이 하는 사람이었다. 37 그 무렵에 이 여자가 병이 들어서 죽었다. 그래서 사람들이 그의 [시신을] 씻겨서 다락방에 두었다. 38 룻다는 욥바에서 가까운 곳이다. 제자들이 베드로가 룻다에 있다는 말을 듣고, 두 사람을 그에게로 보내서, 지체하지 말고 와 달라고 간청하였다. 39 그래서 베드로는 일어나서, 심부름꾼과 함께 갔다. 베드로가 그 곳에 이르니, 사람들이 그를 다락방으로 데리고 올라갔다. 과부들이 모두 베드로 곁에 서서 울며, 도르가가 그들과 함께 지낼 때에 만들어 둔 속옷과 겉옷을 다 내보여 주었다. 40 베드로는 모든 사람을 바깥으로 내보내고 나서, 무릎을 꿇고 기도를 하였다. 그리고 시신 쪽으로 몸을 돌려서, “다비다여, 일어나시오!” 하고 말하였다. 그 여자는 눈을 떠서, 베드로를 보고, 일어나서 앉았다. 41 베드로가 손을 내밀어서, 그 여자를 일으켜 세웠다. 그리고 성도들과 과부들을 불러서, 그 여자가 살아 있음을 보여 주었다. 42 그 일이 온 욥바에 알려지니, 많은 사람이 주님을 믿게 되었다. 43 그리고 베드로는 여러 날 동안 욥바에서 시몬이라는 무두장이의 집에서 묵었다.

ACTS 9

Saul Becomes a Follower //of the Lord

(Acts 22.6-16; 26.12-18)

1 Saul kept on threatening to kill the Lord's followers. He even went to the high priest 2 and asked for letters to the leaders of the synagogues in Damascus. He did this because he wanted to arrest and take to Jerusalem any man or woman who had accepted the Lord's Way.t 3 When Saul had almost reached Damascus, a bright light from heaven suddenly flashed around him.

4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, “Saul! Saul! Why are you so cruel to me?”

5 “Who are you?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus,” the Lord answered. “I am the one you are so cruel to.

6 Now get up and go into the city, where you will be told what to do.”
7  t The men with Saul stood there speechless. They had heard the voice, but they had not seen anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, and when he opened his eyes, he could not see a thing. Someone then led him by the hand to Damascus,

9 and for three days he was blind and did not eat or drink.

10 A follower named Ananias lived in Damascus, and the Lord spoke to him in a vision. Ananias answered, “Lord, here I am.”
11 The Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the house of Judas on Straight Street. When you get there, you will find a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus. Saul is praying,

12 and he has seen a vision. He saw a man named Ananias coming to him and putting his hands on him, so he could see again.”
13 Ananias replied, “Lord, a lot of people have told me about the terrible things this man has done to your followers in Jerusalem.

14 Now the chief priests have given him the power to come here and arrest anyone who worships in your name.”
15 The Lord said to Ananias, “Go! I have chosen him to tell foreigners, kings, and the people of Israel about me.

16 I will show him how much he must suffer for worshiping in my name.”

17 Ananias left and went into the house where Saul was staying. Ananias placed his hands on him and said, “Saul, the Lord Jesus has sent me. He is the same one who appeared to you along the road. He wants you to be able to see and to be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
18  t Suddenly something like fish scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see. He got up and was baptized.

19 Then he ate and felt much better.

Saul Preaches in Damascus

For several days Saul stayed with the Lord's followers in Damascus. 20 Soon he went to the synagogues and started telling people that Jesus is the Son of God.

21 Everyone who heard Saul was amazed and said, “Isn't this the man who caused so much trouble for those people in Jerusalem who worship in the name of Jesus? Didn't he come here to arrest them and take them to the chief priests?”

22 Saul preached with such power that he completely confused the Jewish people in Damascus, as he tried to show them that Jesus is the Messiah.
23  t Later some of them made plans to kill Saul, 24 but he found out about it. He learned that they were guarding the gates of the city day and night in order to kill him.

25 Then one night his followers let him down over the city wall in a large basket.

Saul in Jerusalem

26 When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join the followers. But they were all afraid of him, because they did not believe he was a true follower.

27 Then Barnabas helped him by taking him to the apostles. He explained how Saul had seen the Lord and how the Lord had spoken to him. Barnabas also said when Saul was in Damascus, he had spoken bravely in the name of Jesus.
28 Saul moved about freely with the followers in Jerusalem and told everyone about the Lord. 29 He was always arguing with the Jews who spoke Greek, and so they tried to kill him.

30 But the followers found out about this and took Saul to Caesarea. From there they sent him to the city of Tarsus.

31 The church in Judea, Galilee, and Samaria now had a time of peace and kept on worshiping the Lord. The church became stronger, as the Holy Spirit encouraged it and helped it grow.

Peter Heals Aeneas

32 While Peter was traveling from place to place, he visited the Lord's followers who lived in the town of Lydda. 33 There he met a man named Aeneas, who for eight years had been sick in bed and could not move.

34 Peter said to Aeneas, “Jesus Christ has healed you! Get up and make up your bed.”t At once he stood up.

35 Many people in the towns of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas and became followers of the Lord.

Peter Brings Dorcas //Back to Life

36 In Joppa there was a follower named Tabitha. Her Greek name was Dorcas, which means “deer.” She was always doing good things for people and had given much to the poor. 37 But she got sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Joppa wasn't far from Lydda, and the followers heard that Peter was there. They sent two men to say to him, “Please come with us as quickly as you can!”

39 At once, Peter went with them.
The men took Peter upstairs into the room. Many widows were there crying. They showed him the coats and clothes that Dorcas had made while she was still alive.
40 After Peter had sent everyone out of the room, he knelt down and prayed. Then he turned to the body of Dorcas and said, “Tabitha, get up!” The woman opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet.
Peter called in the widows and the other followers and showed them that Dorcas had been raised from death. 42 Everyone in Joppa heard what had happened, and many of them put their faith in the Lord. 43 Peter stayed on for a while in Joppa in the house of a man named Simon, who made leather.
