Amos 2
1 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Moab, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:2 but I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet;3 and I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith Jehovah.4 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah, and have not kept his statutes, and their lies have caused them to err, after which their fathers did walk:5 but I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.6 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Israel, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes-7 they that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father go unto the same maiden, to profane my holy name:8 and they lay themselves down beside every altar upon clothes taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink the wine of such as have been fined.9 Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.10 Also I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.11 And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazirites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith Jehovah.12 But ye gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.13 Behold, I will press you in your place, as a cart presseth that is full of sheaves.14 And flight shall perish from the swift; and the strong shall not strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself;15 neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself; neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself;16 and he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah.
Amos 2
1 This is what the Lord says:
“Because Moab has committed three crimest –
make that four!ts – I will not revoke my decree of judgment.t
They burned the bones of Edom’s king into lime.s
2 So I will set Moab on fire,s
and it will consume Kerioth’ss fortresses.
Moab will perisht in the heat of battlet
amid war cries and the blaringt of the ram’s horn.s
3 I will removet Moab’s leader;t
I will kill all Moab’st officialst with him.”
The Lord has spoken!
4 This is what the Lord says:
“Because Judah has committed three covenant transgressionst –
make that four!ts – I will not revoke my decree of judgment.t
They rejected the Lord’s law;t
they did not obey his commands.
Their false gods,t
to which their fathers were loyal,ts
led them astray.
5 So I will set Judah on fire,
and it will consume Jerusalem’s fortresses.”s
God Will Judge Israel
6 This is what the Lord says:
“Because Israel has committed three covenant transgressionst –
make that four!ts – I will not revoke my decree of judgment.t
They sold the innocentt for silver,
the needy for a pair of sandals.t
7 They tramplet on the dirt-covered heads of the poor;ts
they push the destitute away.t
A man and his father go to the same girl;s
in this way they show disrespectt for my moral purity.t
8 They stretch out on clothing seized as collateral;
they do so rightt beside every altar!
They drink wine bought with the fines they have levied;
they do so right in the templet of their God!t
9 For Israel’s sake I destroyed the Amorites.t
They were as tall as cedarst
and as strong as oaks,
but I destroyed the fruit on their branchest
and their roots in the ground.t
10 I brought you up from the land of Egypt;
I led you through the wilderness for forty years
so you could take the Amorites’ land as your own.
11 I made some of your sons prophets
and some of your young men Nazirites.t
Is this not true, you Israelites?”
The Lord is speaking!
12 “But you made the Nazirites drink wine;s
you commanded the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy!’
13 Look! I will press you down,
like a cart loaded down with grain presses down.t
14 Fast runners will find no place to hide;t
strong men will have no strength left;t
warriors will not be able to save their lives.
15 Archerst will not hold their ground;t
fast runners will not save their lives,
nor will those who ride horses.t
16 Braveheartedt warriors will run away naked in that day.”
The Lord is speaking!
