Deuteronomium 19
Zákon o útočištných městech
1 Hospodin, tvůj Bůh, před tebou vykoření národy; Hospodin, tvůj Bůh, ti dá jejich zem. Až je vyženeš a usadíš se v jejich městech a v jejich domech, 2 odděl si uprostřed země, kterou ti Hospodin, tvůj Bůh, dá za dědictví, tři města. 3 V zemi, kterou ti Hospodin, tvůj Bůh, dá za dědictví, rozměř vzdálenosti a rozděl její území na tři díly, aby se každý, kdo někoho zabil, měl kam uchýlit.
4 Když někdo někoho zabije a uteče, aby si zachránil život (v případě, že svého bližního zabil neúmyslně, aniž ho kdy předtím měl v nenávisti), se to bude mít takto: 5 Když například někdo půjde se svým druhem do lesa na dříví, při kácení stromu se rozmáchne sekerou, železo sklouzne z topůrka a smrtelně zraní jeho druha, bude se dotyčný moci uchýlit do jednoho z těchto měst a zachránit si život. 6 Kdyby to bylo příliš daleko, mohl by vraha dostihnout krevní mstitel, jenž by jej pronásledoval, a ve své zuřivosti by jej mohl zabít. On však nebyl hoden smrti, neboť zabitého nikdy předtím neměl v nenávisti. 7 A proto ti přikazuji: Odděl si tři města.
8 Až Hospodin, tvůj Bůh, podle přísahy dané tvým otcům rozšíří tvé území a dá ti celou zem, kterou zaslíbil tvým otcům 9 (budeš-li ovšem pečlivě dodržovat všechna přikázání, která vám dnes udílím, totiž abys miloval Hospodina, svého Boha, a kráčel po jeho cestách po všechny dny), potom k těmto třem městům přidáš ještě další tři. 10 To proto, aby se v zemi, kterou ti Hospodin, tvůj Bůh, dává za dědictví, neprolévala nevinná krev. Ta krev by padla na tebe!
11 Pokud by však někdo úkladně napadl svého bližního z nenávisti a poté, co jej smrtelně zranil, by utekl do jednoho z těchto měst, 12 v takovém případě pro něj stařešinové jeho města pošlou, vezmou ho odtud a vydají jej do rukou krevního mstitele, aby zemřel. 13 Neslituješ se nad ním. Odstraň z Izraele nevinně prolitou krev, a povede se ti dobře.
14 Neposunuj mezník svého bližního, kterým tví předkové vymezili tvé dědictví v zemi, kterou ti Hospodin, tvůj Bůh, dává do vlastnictví.
Zákon o svědcích
15 Proti nikomu nepostačí jediný svědek, ať už se dotyčný jakkoli provinil či spáchal jakýkoli hřích, jenž se dá spáchat. Výrok musí být potvrzen výpovědí dvou nebo tří svědků.
16 Povstane-li proti někomu zlomyslný svědek, aby jej nařkl z odpadlictví, 17 obě strany sporu se musí postavit před Hospodina – před kněze a soudce, kteří tam v těch dnech budou. 18 Soudci ať věc důkladně prošetří. Ukáže-li se, že to byl křivý svědek, křivě svědčící proti svému bratru, 19 uděláte mu totéž, co chtěl, aby se stalo jeho bratru. Odstraň ze svého středu zlo! 20 Až o tom uslyší ostatní, přijde na ně bázeň a tato špatnost se ve tvém středu už nikdy nestane. 21 Neslituješ se nad ním – život za život, oko za oko, zub za zub, ruka za ruku, noha za nohu.

Laws Concerning Manslaughter
1 When the Lord your God destroys the nations whose land het is about to give you and you dispossess them and settle in their cities and houses,2 you must set apart for yourselves three citiess in the middle of your land that the Lord your God is giving you as a possession.3 You shall build a roadway and divide into thirds the whole extentt of your land that the Lord your God is providing as your inheritance; anyone who kills another person should flee to the closest of these cities.4 Now this is the law pertaining to one who flees there in order to live,t if he has accidentally killed anothert without hating him at the time of the accident.t5 Suppose he goes with someone elset to the forest to cut wood and when he raises the axt to cut the tree, the ax head flies looset from the handle and strikest his fellow workert so hard that he dies. The person responsiblet may then flee to one of these cities to save himself.t6 Otherwise the blood avenger will chase after the killer in the heat of his anger, eventually overtake him,t and kill him,t though this is not a capital caset since he did not hate him at the time of the accident.7 Therefore, I am commanding you to set apart for yourselves three cities.8 If the Lord your God enlarges your borders as he promised your ancestorst and gives you all the land he pledged to them,t9 and then you are careful to observe all these commandmentst I am givingt you today (namely, to love the Lord your God and to always walk in his ways), then you must add three more citiess to these three.10 You must not shed innocent bloodt in your land that the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, for that would make you guilty.t11 However, suppose a person hates someone elset and stalks him, attacks him, kills him,t and then flees to one of these cities.12 The elders of his own city must send for him and remove him from there to deliver him over to the blood avengert to die.
13 You must not pity him, but purge out the blood of the innocents from Israel, so that it may go well with you.
Laws Concerning Witnesses
14 You must not encroach on your neighbor’s property,t which will have been definedt in the inheritance you will obtain in the land the Lord your God is giving you.t
15 A single witness may not testifyt against another person for any trespass or sin that he commits. A matter may be legally establishedt only on the testimony of two or three witnesses.16 If a falset witness testifies against another person and accuses him of a crime,t17 then both parties to the controversy must stand before the Lord, that is, before the priests and judgest who will be in office in those days.18 The judges will thoroughly investigate the matter, and if the witness should prove to be false and to have given false testimony against the accused,t19 you must do to him what he had intended to do to the accused. In this way you will purget evil from among you.20 The rest of the people will hear and become afraid to keep doing such evil among you.
21 You must not show pity; the principle will be a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, and a foot for a foot.s
