Porážka krále Oga
1 Potom jsme se obrátili a vydali se vzhůru cestou k Bášanu. Bášanský král Og proti nám s celým svým lidem vytáhl do boje u Edrei. 2 Hospodin mi řekl: „Neboj se ho! Vydal jsem ho s celým jeho lidem i s jeho zemí do tvých rukou. Naložíš s ním, jako jsi naložil s emorejským králem Sichonem, sídlícím v Chešbonu.“
3 Hospodin, náš Bůh, tehdy vydal do našich rukou i bášanského krále Oga se vším jeho lidem. Bili jsme je, až z nich nezůstal jediný živý. 4 Všechna jeho města jsme tenkrát dobyli. Nebylo tvrze, již bychom jim nezískali – šedesát měst, celý kraj Argob, Ogovo království v Bášanu. 5 Všechna ta města byla opevněná vysokými hradbami, branami a závorami. Navíc jsme dobyli veliké množství venkovských osad. 6 Vyhladili jsme je jako proklaté, jako jsme to učinili chešbonskému králi Sichonovi, vyhladili jsme každé město – muže, ženy i děti. 7 Všechen dobytek a kořist z těch měst jsme si pak rozebrali.
8 Tenkrát jsme oběma emorejským králům v Zajordání odebrali zem od potoka Arnon až k hoře Hermon. 9 (Sidonci říkají Hermonu Sirion, kdežto Emorejci mu říkají Senír.) 10 Zmocnili jsme se všech měst náhorní roviny, celého Gileádu a celého Bášanu až po Salchu a Edrei, hlavní města Ogova bášanského království. 11 (Bášanský král Og byl jediný, kdo zbyl z přežívajících Refajců. Ano, jeho lože je to železné lože, které je k vidění v Rabě Amonců – devět loket nadél a čtyři lokty našíř, měřeno běžným loktem!)
Dělení zajordánského území
12 Zemi, kterou jsme tenkrát obsadili, jsem dal synům Rubenovým a Gádovým – území od Aroeru na potoce Arnon a polovinu pohoří Gileád s jeho městy. 13 Zbytek Gileádu s celým Bášanem, totiž Ogovo království, jsem dal polovině kmene Manasesova. (Celému kraji Argob s celým Bášanem se říkávalo Země Refajců. 14 Celého tohoto kraje až po gešurské a maachatské pomezí se zmocnil Manasesův syn Jair. Ten pojmenoval Bášan podle sebe Chavot-jair, Jairovy vesnice, a tak se jmenuje až dodnes.) 15 Gileád jsem dal Machirovi. 16 Synům Rubenovým a Gádovým jsem dal území od Gileádu k potoku Arnon (jehož středem vede hranice) a až k potoku Jabok, který tvoří hranici Amonců. 17 Jejich západní hranici tvoří jordánské údolí Arava, a to od Galilejského jezera až po Mrtvé moře v Aravě pod úbočím Pisgy na východě.
18 Tenkrát jsem vám přikázal: „Hospodin, váš Bůh, vám dal tuto zem za dědictví. Všichni vaši bojovníci však přejdou Jordán v plné zbroji jako předvoj svých bratrů, synů Izraele. 19 Pouze vaše ženy, vaše děti a váš dobytek (vím, že máte množství dobytka) zůstanou ve městech, která jsem vám přidělil. 20 Hospodin, váš Bůh, pak dá vašim bratrům odpočinutí stejně jako vám. Až obsadí zem, kterou jim Hospodin, váš Bůh, dává za Jordánem, tehdy se vrátíte každý k vlastnictví, které jsem vám přidělil.“
Mojžíš nepřejde Jordán
21 Jozuovi jsem tenkrát přikázal: „Na vlastní oči jsi viděl všechno, co Hospodin, váš Bůh, učinil těm dvěma králům. Totéž Hospodin učiní všem královstvím, do nichž se chystáš vejít. 22 Nebojte se jich. Hospodin, váš Bůh, bojuje za vás!“
23 Tenkrát jsem Hospodina úpěnlivě prosil: 24 „Hospodine, Pane můj, začal jsi svému služebníkovi ukazovat svou velikost a svou moc. Který bůh na nebi či na zemi by dokázal činy podobné tvým? 25 Nech mne prosím přejít Jordán, ať spatřím tu krásnou zem, která je za ním, ty krásné hory a Libanon!“
26 Hospodin se ale na mě kvůli vám hněval, a tak mě nevyslyšel. „To stačí!“ řekl mi. „Už o tom se mnou nemluv. 27 Vystup na vrchol Pisgy a pozvedni oči na západ, na sever, na jih a na východ. Podívej se dobře, neboť tento Jordán nepřejdeš. 28 Pověř však Jozuu, posilni a povzbuď ho, neboť on tam v čele tohoto lidu přejde. On jim dá za dědictví zem, kterou spatříš.“ 29 A tak jsme zůstali v roklině naproti Bet-peoru.

Defeat of King Og of Bashan
1 Next we set out ont the route to Bashan,s but King Og of Bashan and his whole armyt came out to meet us in battle at Edrei.s2 The Lord, however, said to me, “Don’t be afraid of him because I have already given him, his whole army,t and his land to you. You will do to him exactly what you did to King Sihon of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon.”3 So the Lord our God did indeed give over to us King Og of Bashan and his whole army and we struck them down until not a single survivor was left.t4 We captured all his cities at that time – there was not a town we did not take from them – sixty cities, all the region of Argob,s the dominion of Og in Bashan.5 All of these cities were fortified by high walls, gates, and locking bars;t in addition there were a great many open villages.t6 We put all of these under divine judgmentts just as we had done to King Sihon of Heshbon – every occupied city,t including women and children.7 But all the livestock and plunder from the cities we kept for ourselves.8 So at that time we took the land of the two Amorite kings in the Transjordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermons9 (the Sidonianss call Hermon Sirions and the Amorites call it Senir),s10 all the cities of the plateau, all of Gilead and Bashan as far as Salecahs and Edrei,s cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
11 Only King Og of Bashan was left of the remaining Rephaites. (It is noteworthyt that his sarcophagust was made of iron.t Does it not, indeed, still remain in Rabbaths of the Ammonites? It is thirteen and a half feett long and six feett wide according to standard measure.)t
Distribution of the Transjordanian Allotments
12 This is the land we brought under our control at that time: The territory extending from Aroerts by the Wadi Arnon and half the Gilead hill country with its cities I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites.s13 The rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to half the tribe of Manasseh.s (All the region of Argob,s that is, all Bashan, is called the land of Rephaim.14 Jair, son of Manasseh, took all the Argob region as far as the border with the Geshuritess and Maacathitess (namely Bashan) and called it by his name, Havvoth-Jair,s which it retains to this very day.)15 I gave Gilead to Machir.s16 To the Reubenites and Gadites I allocated the territory extending from Gilead as far as Wadi Arnon (the exact middle of the wadi was a boundary) all the way to the Wadi Jabbok, the Ammonite border.
17 The Arabah and the Jordan Rivert were also a border, from the sea of Chinnerethts to the sea of the Arabah (that is, the Salt Sea),s beneath the watershedt of Pisgahs to the east.
Instructions to the Transjordanian Tribes
18 At that time I instructed you as follows: “The Lord your God has given you this land for your possession. You warriors are to cross over before your fellow Israelitest equipped for battle.19 But your wives, children, and livestock (of which I know you have many) may remain in the cities I have given you.20 You must fightt until the Lord gives your countrymen victoryt as he did you and they take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan River. Then each of you may return to his own territory that I have given you.”21 I also commanded Joshua at the same time, “You have seen everything the Lord your God did to these two kings; het will do the same to all the kingdoms where you are going.t
22 Do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God will personally fight for you.”
Denial to Moses of the Promised Land
23 Moreover, at that time I pleaded with the Lord,24 “O, Lord God,t you have begun to show met your greatness and strength.t (What god in heaven or earth can rival your works and mighty deeds?)25 Let me please cross over to see the good land on the other side of the Jordan River – this good hill country and the Lebanon!”t26 But the Lord was angry at me because of you and would not listen to me. Instead, het said to me, “Enough of that!t Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.27 Go up to the top of Pisgah and take a good look to the west, north, south, and east,t for you will not be allowed to cross the Jordan.28 Commissiont Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, because he will lead these people over and will enable them to inherit the land you will see.”
29 So we settled down in the valley opposite Beth Peor.s
