Derrota del Rey de Basán

1 "Volvimos, pues, y subimos por el camino de Basán, y Og, rey de Basán, nos salió al encuentro con todo su pueblo para pelear en Edrei.2 Pero el Señor me dijo: 'No le tengas miedo, porque Yo lo he entregado en tu mano a todo su pueblo y su tierra; y harás con él tal como hiciste con Sehón, rey de los Amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón.'3 Así que el Señor nuestro Dios también entregó en nuestra mano a Og, rey de Basán, con todo su pueblo, y los herimos hasta que no quedaron sobrevivientes.4 Conquistamos en aquel entonces todas sus ciudades; no quedó ciudad que no les tomáramos: sesenta ciudades, toda la región de Argob, el reino de Og en Basán.5 Todas éstas eran ciudades fortificadas con altas murallas, puertas y barras, aparte de muchos otros pueblos sin murallas.6 Las destruimos totalmente, como hicimos con Sehón, rey de Hesbón, exterminando a todos los hombres, mujeres y niños de cada ciudad.

7 Pero tomamos como nuestro botín todos los animales y los despojos de las ciudades.
8 Tomamos entonces la tierra de mano de los dos reyes de los Amorreos que estaban del otro lado del Jordán, desde el Valle del Arnón hasta el Monte Hermón9 (los Sidonios llaman Sirión, a Hermón, y los Amorreos lo llaman Senir):10 todas las ciudades de la meseta, todo Galaad y todo Basán, hasta Salca y Edrei, ciudades del reino de Og en Basán.

11 Porque sólo Og, rey de Basán, quedaba de los gigantes. Su cama era una cama de hierro; está en Rabá, ciudad de los Amonitas. Tenía 9 codos (4 m) de largo y 1.6 metros de ancho, según el codo de un hombre (la distancia del codo al fin de mano, 45 cm).

Rubén, Gad y Manasés se Establecen

12 "Tomamos posesión, pues, de esta tierra en aquel tiempo. Desde Aroer, que está en el Valle del Arnón, y la mitad de la región montañosa de Galaad y sus ciudades, se la di a los Rubenitas y a los Gaditas.13 Y el resto de Galaad y todo Basán, el reino de Og, toda la región de Argob, se la di a la media tribu de Manasés. (En cuanto a todo Basán, se le llama la tierra de los gigantes.14 Jair, hijo de Manasés, tomó toda la región de Argob hasta la frontera con Gesur y Maaca, y la llamó, es decir a Basán, según su propio nombre, Havot Jair, como se llama hasta hoy.)15 A Maquir le di Galaad.16 A los Rubenitas y a los Gaditas les di desde Galaad hasta el Valle del Arnón, el medio del valle como frontera, hasta el arroyo Jaboc, frontera de los Amonitas;

17 también el Arabá, con el Jordán como frontera, desde el Cineret (Mar de Galilea) hasta el Mar del Arabá, el Mar Salado (Mar Muerto), al pie de las laderas del Pisga al oriente.
18 En aquel tiempo yo les ordené a ustedes: 'El Señor su Dios les ha dado esta tierra para poseerla. Todos ustedes, hombres valientes, cruzarán armados delante de sus hermanos, los Israelitas.19 'Pero sus mujeres, sus pequeños y su ganado (yo sé que ustedes tienen mucho ganado) permanecerán en las ciudades que les he dado,

20 hasta que el Señor dé reposo a sus compatriotas como a ustedes, y ellos posean también la tierra que el Señor, Dios de ustedes, les dará al otro lado del Jordán. Entonces podrán volver cada hombre a la posesión que les he dado.'
21 En aquel tiempo le ordené a Josué: 'Tus ojos han visto todo lo que el Señor, Dios de ustedes, ha hecho a estos dos reyes; así hará el Señor a todos los reinos por los cuales vas a pasar.

22 'No les teman, porque el Señor su Dios es el que pelea por ustedes.'

No se le Concede a Moisés Cruzar el Jordán

23 "Yo también supliqué al Señor en aquel tiempo:24 'Oh Señor Dios, Tú has comenzado a mostrar a Tu siervo Tu grandeza y Tu mano poderosa; porque ¿qué dios hay en los cielos o en la tierra que pueda hacer obras y hechos tan poderosos como los Tuyos?

25 Permíteme, te suplico, cruzar y ver la buena tierra que está al otro lado del Jordán, aquella buena región montañosa y el Líbano.'
26 Pero el Señor se enojó conmigo por causa de ustedes, y no me escuchó; y el Señor me dijo: '¡Basta! No Me hables más de esto.27 Sube a la cumbre del Monte Pisga y alza tus ojos al occidente, al norte, al sur y al oriente, y míra la con tus propios ojos, porque tú no cruzarás este Jordán.28 Pero encarga a Josué, y anímalo y fortalécelo, porque él pasará a la cabeza de este pueblo, y él les dará por heredad la tierra que tú verás.'29 Así que nos quedamos en el valle frente a Bet Peor.

Defeat of King Og of Bashan

1 Next we set out ont the route to Bashan,s but King Og of Bashan and his whole armyt came out to meet us in battle at Edrei.s2 The Lord, however, said to me, “Don’t be afraid of him because I have already given him, his whole army,t and his land to you. You will do to him exactly what you did to King Sihon of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon.”3 So the Lord our God did indeed give over to us King Og of Bashan and his whole army and we struck them down until not a single survivor was left.t4 We captured all his cities at that time – there was not a town we did not take from them – sixty cities, all the region of Argob,s the dominion of Og in Bashan.5 All of these cities were fortified by high walls, gates, and locking bars;t in addition there were a great many open villages.t6 We put all of these under divine judgmentts just as we had done to King Sihon of Heshbon – every occupied city,t including women and children.7 But all the livestock and plunder from the cities we kept for ourselves.8 So at that time we took the land of the two Amorite kings in the Transjordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermons9 (the Sidonianss call Hermon Sirions and the Amorites call it Senir),s10 all the cities of the plateau, all of Gilead and Bashan as far as Salecahs and Edrei,s cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

11 Only King Og of Bashan was left of the remaining Rephaites. (It is noteworthyt that his sarcophagust was made of iron.t Does it not, indeed, still remain in Rabbaths of the Ammonites? It is thirteen and a half feett long and six feett wide according to standard measure.)t

Distribution of the Transjordanian Allotments

12 This is the land we brought under our control at that time: The territory extending from Aroerts by the Wadi Arnon and half the Gilead hill country with its cities I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites.s13 The rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to half the tribe of Manasseh.s (All the region of Argob,s that is, all Bashan, is called the land of Rephaim.14 Jair, son of Manasseh, took all the Argob region as far as the border with the Geshuritess and Maacathitess (namely Bashan) and called it by his name, Havvoth-Jair,s which it retains to this very day.)15 I gave Gilead to Machir.s16 To the Reubenites and Gadites I allocated the territory extending from Gilead as far as Wadi Arnon (the exact middle of the wadi was a boundary) all the way to the Wadi Jabbok, the Ammonite border.

17 The Arabah and the Jordan Rivert were also a border, from the sea of Chinnerethts to the sea of the Arabah (that is, the Salt Sea),s beneath the watershedt of Pisgahs to the east.

Instructions to the Transjordanian Tribes

18 At that time I instructed you as follows: “The Lord your God has given you this land for your possession. You warriors are to cross over before your fellow Israelitest equipped for battle.19 But your wives, children, and livestock (of which I know you have many) may remain in the cities I have given you.20 You must fightt until the Lord gives your countrymen victoryt as he did you and they take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan River. Then each of you may return to his own territory that I have given you.”21 I also commanded Joshua at the same time, “You have seen everything the Lord your God did to these two kings; het will do the same to all the kingdoms where you are going.t

22 Do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God will personally fight for you.”

Denial to Moses of the Promised Land

23 Moreover, at that time I pleaded with the Lord,24 “O, Lord God,t you have begun to show met your greatness and strength.t (What god in heaven or earth can rival your works and mighty deeds?)25 Let me please cross over to see the good land on the other side of the Jordan River – this good hill country and the Lebanon!”t26 But the Lord was angry at me because of you and would not listen to me. Instead, het said to me, “Enough of that!t Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.27 Go up to the top of Pisgah and take a good look to the west, north, south, and east,t for you will not be allowed to cross the Jordan.28 Commissiont Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, because he will lead these people over and will enable them to inherit the land you will see.”

29 So we settled down in the valley opposite Beth Peor.s
