Derrota de Og, rey de Basán
1 »Cuando tomamos la ruta hacia Basán, el rey Og, que gobernaba ese país, nos salió al encuentro en Edrey. Iba acompañado de todo su ejército, dispuesto a pelear. 2 Pero el Señor me dijo: “No le tengan miedo, porque se lo he entregado a ustedes, con todo su ejército y su territorio. Hagan con él lo que hicieron con Sijón, rey de los amorreos, que reinaba en Hesbón.”
3 »Y así sucedió. El Señor nuestro Dios también entregó en nuestras manos al rey de Basán y a todo su ejército. Los derrotamos, y nadie vivió para contarlo. 4 En aquella ocasión conquistamos todas sus ciudades. Nos apoderamos de las sesenta ciudades que se encontraban en la región de Argob, del reino de Og en Basán. 5 Todas esas ciudades estaban fortificadas con altos muros, y con portones y barras, sin contar las muchas aldeas no amuralladas. 6 Tal como hicimos con Sijón, rey de Hesbón, *destruimos por completo las ciudades con sus varones, mujeres y niños, 7 pero nos quedamos con todo el ganado y el botín de sus ciudades.
8 »Fue así como en aquella ocasión nos apoderamos del territorio de esos dos reyes amorreos, es decir, de toda la porción al este del Jordán, desde el arroyo Arnón hasta el monte Hermón, 9 al que los sidonios llaman Sirión y los amorreos Senir. 10 También nos apoderamos de todas las ciudades de la meseta, todo Galaad y todo Basán, hasta Salcá y Edrey, ciudades del reino de Og en Basán. 11 Por cierto, el rey Og de Basán fue el último de los gigantes. Su camas era de hierro y medía cuatro metros y medio de largo por dos de ancho.s Todavía se puede verla en Rabá de los amonitas.

12 »Una vez que nos apoderamos de esa tierra, a los rubenitas y a los gaditas les entregué el territorio que está al norte de Aroer y junto al arroyo Arnón, y también la mitad de la región montañosa de Galaad con sus ciudades. 13 El resto de Galaad y todo el reino de Og, es decir, Basán, se los entregué a la media tribu de Manasés.
»Ahora bien, a toda la región de Argob en Basán se le conoce como tierra de gigantes. 14 Yaír, uno de los descendientes de Manasés, se apoderó de toda la región de Argob hasta la frontera de los guesureos y los macateos, y a esa región de Basán le puso su propio *nombre, llamándola Javot Yaír,s nombre que retiene hasta el día de hoy. 15 A Maquir le entregué Galaad, 16 y a los rubenitas y a los gaditas les entregué el territorio que se extiende desde Galaad hasta el centro del arroyo Arnón, y hasta el río Jaboc, que marca la frontera de los amonitas. 17 Su frontera occidental era el Jordán en el Arabá, desde el lago Quinérets hasta el mar del Arabá, que es el Mar Muerto, en las laderas del monte Pisgá.
18 »En aquel tiempo les di esta orden: “El Señor su Dios les ha dado posesión de esta tierra. Ustedes, los hombres fuertes y guerreros, pasen al otro lado al frente de sus hermanos israelitas. 19 En las ciudades que les he entregado permanecerán solamente sus mujeres, sus niños y el mucho ganado que yo sé que ustedes tienen. 20 No podrán volver al territorio que les he entregado hasta que el Señor haya dado reposo a sus hermanos, como se lo ha dado a ustedes, y hasta que ellos hayan tomado posesión de la tierra que el Señor su Dios les entregará al otro lado del Jordán.”
Instrucciones a Josué
21 »En aquel tiempo le ordené a Josué: “Con tus propios ojos has visto todo lo que el Señor, el Dios de ustedes, ha hecho con esos dos reyes. Y lo mismo hará con todos los reinos por donde vas a pasar. 22 No les tengas miedo, que el Señor tu Dios pelea por ti.”
Dios le prohíbe a Moisés cruzar el Jordán
23 »En aquella ocasión le supliqué al Señor: 24 “Tú, Señor y Dios, has comenzado a mostrarle a tu siervo tu grandeza y tu poder; pues ¿qué dios hay en el cielo o en la tierra capaz de hacer las obras y los prodigios que tú realizas? 25 Déjame pasar y ver la buena tierra al otro lado del Jordán, esa hermosa región montañosa y el Líbano.” 26 Pero por causa de ustedes el Señor se enojó conmigo y no me escuchó, sino que me dijo: “¡Basta ya! No me hables más de este asunto. 27 Sube hasta la cumbre del Pisgá y mira al norte, al sur, al este y al oeste. Contempla la tierra con tus propios ojos, porque no vas a cruzar este río Jordán. 28 Dale a Josué las debidas instrucciones; anímalo y fortalécelo, porque será él quien pasará al frente de este pueblo y quien les dará en posesión la tierra que vas a ver.”
29 »Y permanecimos en el valle, frente a Bet Peor.

Defeat of King Og of Bashan
1 Next we set out ont the route to Bashan,s but King Og of Bashan and his whole armyt came out to meet us in battle at Edrei.s2 The Lord, however, said to me, “Don’t be afraid of him because I have already given him, his whole army,t and his land to you. You will do to him exactly what you did to King Sihon of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon.”3 So the Lord our God did indeed give over to us King Og of Bashan and his whole army and we struck them down until not a single survivor was left.t4 We captured all his cities at that time – there was not a town we did not take from them – sixty cities, all the region of Argob,s the dominion of Og in Bashan.5 All of these cities were fortified by high walls, gates, and locking bars;t in addition there were a great many open villages.t6 We put all of these under divine judgmentts just as we had done to King Sihon of Heshbon – every occupied city,t including women and children.7 But all the livestock and plunder from the cities we kept for ourselves.8 So at that time we took the land of the two Amorite kings in the Transjordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermons9 (the Sidonianss call Hermon Sirions and the Amorites call it Senir),s10 all the cities of the plateau, all of Gilead and Bashan as far as Salecahs and Edrei,s cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
11 Only King Og of Bashan was left of the remaining Rephaites. (It is noteworthyt that his sarcophagust was made of iron.t Does it not, indeed, still remain in Rabbaths of the Ammonites? It is thirteen and a half feett long and six feett wide according to standard measure.)t
Distribution of the Transjordanian Allotments
12 This is the land we brought under our control at that time: The territory extending from Aroerts by the Wadi Arnon and half the Gilead hill country with its cities I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites.s13 The rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to half the tribe of Manasseh.s (All the region of Argob,s that is, all Bashan, is called the land of Rephaim.14 Jair, son of Manasseh, took all the Argob region as far as the border with the Geshuritess and Maacathitess (namely Bashan) and called it by his name, Havvoth-Jair,s which it retains to this very day.)15 I gave Gilead to Machir.s16 To the Reubenites and Gadites I allocated the territory extending from Gilead as far as Wadi Arnon (the exact middle of the wadi was a boundary) all the way to the Wadi Jabbok, the Ammonite border.
17 The Arabah and the Jordan Rivert were also a border, from the sea of Chinnerethts to the sea of the Arabah (that is, the Salt Sea),s beneath the watershedt of Pisgahs to the east.
Instructions to the Transjordanian Tribes
18 At that time I instructed you as follows: “The Lord your God has given you this land for your possession. You warriors are to cross over before your fellow Israelitest equipped for battle.19 But your wives, children, and livestock (of which I know you have many) may remain in the cities I have given you.20 You must fightt until the Lord gives your countrymen victoryt as he did you and they take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan River. Then each of you may return to his own territory that I have given you.”21 I also commanded Joshua at the same time, “You have seen everything the Lord your God did to these two kings; het will do the same to all the kingdoms where you are going.t
22 Do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God will personally fight for you.”
Denial to Moses of the Promised Land
23 Moreover, at that time I pleaded with the Lord,24 “O, Lord God,t you have begun to show met your greatness and strength.t (What god in heaven or earth can rival your works and mighty deeds?)25 Let me please cross over to see the good land on the other side of the Jordan River – this good hill country and the Lebanon!”t26 But the Lord was angry at me because of you and would not listen to me. Instead, het said to me, “Enough of that!t Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.27 Go up to the top of Pisgah and take a good look to the west, north, south, and east,t for you will not be allowed to cross the Jordan.28 Commissiont Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, because he will lead these people over and will enable them to inherit the land you will see.”
29 So we settled down in the valley opposite Beth Peor.s
