Truyền-đạo 12

1 Trong buổi còn thơ ấu hãy tưởng nhớ Đấng Tạo hóa ngươi, trước khi những ngày gian nan chưa đến, trước khi những năm tới mà ngươi nói rằng: Ta không lấy làm vui lòng;2 trước khi ánh sáng mặt trời, mặt trăng, và các ngôi sao chưa tối tăm, và mây chưa lại tuôn đến sau cơn mưa;3 trong ngày ấy kẻ giữ nhà run rẩy, những người mạnh sức cong khom, kẻ xay cối ngừng lại bởi vì số ít, những kẻ trông xem qua cửa sổ đã làng mắt,4 hai cánh cửa bên đường đóng lại, và tiếng xay mỏn lần; lúc ấy người ta nghe tiếng chim kêu bèn chờ dậy, và tiếng con gái hát đều hạ hơi;5 lại người ta sợ sệt mà lên cao, và hãi hùng lúc đi đường; lúc ấy cây hạnh trổ bông, cào cào trở nên nặng, và sự ước ao chẳng còn nữa; vì bấy giờ người đi đến nơi ở đời đời của mình, còn những kẻ tang chế đều đi vòng quanh các đường phố:6 lại hãy tưởng nhớ Đấng Tạo hóa trước khi dây bạc đất, và chén vàng bể, trước khi vò vỡ ra bên suối, và bánh xe gãy ra trên giếng;7 và bụi tro trở vào đất y như nguyên cũ, và thần linh trở về nơi Đức Chúa Trời, là Đấng đã ban nó.8 Kẻ truyền đạo nói: Hư không của sự hư không; mọi sự đều hư không.9 Vả lại, bởi vì kẻ truyền đạo là người khôn ngoan, nên cũng cứ dạy sự tri thức cho dân sự; người đã cân nhắc, tra soát, và sắp đặt thứ tự nhiều câu châm ngôn.10 Kẻ truyền đạo có chuyên lo tìm kiếm những câu luận tốt đẹp; và các lời đã viết ra đều là chánh trực và chân thật.11 Lời của người khôn ngoan giống như đót; sắp chọn các câu châm ngôn khác nào đinh đóng chặt: nó do một đấng chăn chiên mà truyền ra.12 Lại, hỡi con, hãy chịu dạy: người ta chép nhiều sách chẳng cùng; còn học quá thật làm mệt nhọc cho xác thịt.13 Chúng ta hãy nghe lời kết của lý thuyết nầy: Khá kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời và giữ các điều răn Ngài; ấy là trọn phận sự của ngươi.14 Vì Đức Chúa Trời sẽ đem đoán xét các công việc, đến đỗi việc kín nhiệm hơn hết, hoặc thiện hoặc ác cũng vậy.

Ecclesiastes 12

Fear God Now Because Old Age and Death Come Quickly

1 So remembert your Creator in the days of your youth –
beforet the difficultt days come,
and the years draw near when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;

2 before the sun and the lightt of the moon and the stars grow dark,
and the clouds disappeart after the rain;

3 when those who keep watch over the houset begin to tremble,t
and the virile men begin to stoop over,t
and the grinderst begin to cease because they grow few,
and those who look through the windows grow dim,t

4 and the doors along the street are shut;
when the sound of the grinding millt grows low,
and one is awakenedt by the sound of a bird,
and all theirt songst grow faint,t

5 and they are afraid of heights and the dangerst in the street;
the almond blossomst grow white,t
and the grasshoppert drags itself along,t
and the caper berryt shrivels upst –
because man goes to his eternal home,t
and the mourners go about in the streets –

6 before the silver cord is removed,
or the golden bowl is broken,
or the pitcher is shattered at the well,t
or the water wheelt is broken at the cistern –

7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was,
and the life’s breatht returns to God who gave it.

Concluding Refrain: Qoheleth Restates His Thesis

8 “Absolutely futile!”t laments the Teacher,t
“All of these thingst are futile!”ts

Concluding Epilogue: Qoheleth’s Advice is Wise

9 Not only was the Teacher wise,s
but he also taught knowledge to the people;
he carefully evaluatedt and arrangedt many proverbs.

10 The Teacher sought to find delightfult words,
and to writes accurately truthful sayings.t

11 The words of the sages are like prods,t
and the collected sayings are like firmly fixed nails;
they are given by one shepherd.

Concluding Exhortation: Fear God and Obey His Commands!

12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.s
There is no end to the makingt of many books,
and much study is exhausting to the body.t

13 Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion:t
Fear God and keep his commandments,
because this is the whole dutyt of man.

14 For God will evaluate every deed,t
including every secret thing, whether good or evil.
