Efesiërs 1

1 Ek, Paulus, is ’n tapostel van Christus Jesus omdat God dit wil hê. Ek skryf hierdie brief vir julle wat in die stad Efese woon, julle wat aan God behoort en in Christus Jesus glo.

2 Ek bid dat God ons Vader en die Here Jesus Christus tgenadig sal wees vir julle en dat Hy vir julle vrede sal gee.

God het baie goeie dinge vir die gelowiges gedoen


3 Ons prys die God en Vader van ons Here Jesus Christus, want God was baie goed vir ons. Ons behoort aan Christus, en die Heilige Gees het vir ons al die goeie dinge gegee wat in die hemel is. 4 God het ons gekies sodat ons aan Christus kan behoort. Ja, God het ons gekies voordat Hy die wêreld gemaak het. Hy het dit gedoen sodat ons aan Hom sal behoort en reg sal lewe en vol liefde sal wees. 5 Voordat God die wêreld gemaak het, het Hy besluit dat ons sy kinders moet wees. Hy het vir Jesus Christus gestuur sodat ons God se kinders kon word. God wou graag hê ons moet sy kinders wees.

6 God was baie goed vir ons, Hy het sy Seun gestuur, Hy is lief vir sy Seun. Daarom prys ons Hom, die Koning wat goed is vir ons.
7-8 Die bloed van Christus het gevloei, en Hy het gesterf. So het God ons vrygemaak en ons sondes vergewe. God was baie goed vir ons. Ja, Hy was baie baie goed vir ons. Hy het vir ons al die twysheid en die kennis gegee. 9 Niemand het voorheen geweet wat God oor Christus besluit het nie, maar nou het God dit vir ons gesê. God het besluit om dit so te doen, Hy wou dit graag doen.

10 Hy het besluit wanneer dit die regte tyd sal wees, wanneer Christus moet kom sodat alles in die hemel en op die aarde saam aan Christus sal behoort en een sal wees.
11 God het lank gelede besluit dat ons aan Hom moet behoort, daarom het Hy vir Christus gestuur. En wanneer God besluit dat iets moet gebeur, dan gebeur dit. 12 God het dit gedoen, want Hy wou hê dat ons Hom, die Koning, moet prys, ons wat eerste begin glo het en seker is dat Christus ons sal red. 13 Julle in Efese behoort ook aan Christus, julle het die regte boodskap gehoor, die goeie boodskap dat God julle wil red. Julle behoort aan Christus, julle glo in Hom, en daarom het God vir julle die Heilige Gees gegee wat Hy belowe het. Die Heilige Gees wys dat julle aan God behoort.

14 Ja, ons het die Heilige Gees, en daarom weet ons God sal vir ons alles gee wat Hy vir ons belowe het. Hy sal ons heeltemal vrymaak, ons wat aan Hom behoort. Daarom moet ons vir God, ons Koning, prys!

Paulus bid vir almal wat in Christus glo


15 Ek het gehoor dat julle in die Here Jesus glo en dat julle lief is vir almal wat aan God behoort. 16 Daarom, wanneer ek bid, sê ek altyd vir God dankie vir julle, en dink ek aan julle. 17 Dan vra ek vir die God van ons Here Jesus Christus, vir die Vader wat Koning is, Hy moet vir julle twysheid gee en Hy moet vir julle wys hoe julle Hom kan ken. 18 Ek bid dat God julle sal help om regtig te weet wat julle sal kry omdat Hy julle gekies het om aan Hom te behoort. Julle sal al die dinge kry wat Hy, die Koning, sal gee vir die mense wat aan Hom behoort. 19 Ek bid ook dat julle sal weet dat God se krag baie sterk is, en dat Hy sy krag in ons lewens gebruik, in ons wat glo. 20 Dit is dieselfde sterk krag wat God gebruik het toe Hy vir Christus weer laat lewe het en Hom laat sit het op die belangrikste plek by Hom in die hemel. 21 Christus is belangriker as almal en alles wat oor die wêreld wil regeer, belangriker as enige iets waaraan ’n mens kan dink, nou of in die tyd wat kom. 22-23 God het Christus laat wen teen al sy vyande. Hy het vir Christus die Hoof gemaak van alles. God het dit gedoen sodat dit goed sal gaan met die kerk. Die kerk is die liggaam van Christus. Hý alleen laat die kerk waarlik lewe, Hy laat alles lewe.

Ephesians 1

1 I, Paul, am writing this letter. I am an apostle of Christ Jesus just as God planned.
I am sending this letter to you, God's people in Ephesus. Because you belong to Christ Jesus, you are faithful.
2 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

God Gives Spiritual Blessings

3 Give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing. Those blessings come from the heavenly world. They belong to us because we belong to Christ.
4 God chose us to belong to Christ before the world was created. He chose us to be holy and without blame in his eyes. He loved us.5 So he decided long ago to adopt us as his children. He did it because of what Jesus Christ has done. It pleased God to do it.6 All those things bring praise to his glorious grace. God freely gave us his grace because of the One he loves.
7 We have been set free because of what Christ has done. Through his blood our sins have been forgiven. We have been set free because God's grace is so rich.8 He poured his grace on us by giving us great wisdom and understanding.
9 He showed us the mystery of his plan. It was in keeping with what he wanted to do. It was what he had planned through Christ.10 It will all come about when history has been completed. God will then bring together all things in heaven and on earth under one ruler. The ruler is Christ.
11 We were also chosen to belong to him. God decided to choose us long ago in keeping with his plan. He works out everything to fit his plan and purpose.12 We were the first to put our hope in Christ. We were chosen to bring praise to his glory.
13 You also became believers in Christ. That happened when you heard the message of truth. It was the good news about how you could be saved. When you believed, he marked you with a seal. The seal is the Holy Spirit that he promised.
14 The Spirit marks us as God's own. We can now be sure that someday we will receive all that God has promised. That will happen after God sets all of his people completely free. All of those things will bring praise to his glory.

Paul Prays and Gives Thanks

15 I have heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus. I have also heard about your love for all of God's people. That is why16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I always remember you in my prayers.
17 I pray to the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is the glorious Father. I keep asking him to give you the wisdom and understanding that come from the Holy Spirit. I want you to know God better.
18 I also pray that your mind might see more clearly. Then you will know the hope God has chosen you to receive. You will know that the things God's people will receive are rich and glorious.19 And you will know his great power. It can't be compared with anything else. It is at work for us who believe. It is like the mighty strength20 God showed when he raised Christ from the dead.
He seated him at his right hand in his heavenly kingdom.21 There Christ sits far above all who rule and have authority. He also sits far above all powers and kings. He is above every title that can be given in this world and in the world to come.
22 God placed all things under Christ's rule. He appointed him to be ruler over everything for the church.23 The church is Christ's body. It is filled by Christ. He fills everything in every way.
