Lettre aux Éphésiens 3
La mission dont Paul est chargé en faveur des non-Juifs
1 C’est pourquoi, moi Paul, j’adresse ma prière à Dieu. Je suis prisonnier au service de Jésus-Christ pour vous les non-Juifs. 2 Vous avez certainement entendu parler de la mission dont Dieu, dans sa bonté, m’a chargé en votre faveur. 3 Dieu m’a accordé une révélation pour me faire connaître son plan secret. J’ai écrit plus haut quelques mots à ce sujet 4 et, en les lisant, vous pouvez comprendre à quel point je connais le secret qui concerne le Christ. 5 Dans les temps passés, ce secret n’a pas été communiqué aux humains, mais Dieu l’a révélé maintenant par son Esprit à ses saints apôtres et prophètes.
6 Voici ce secret : par le moyen de la Bonne Nouvelle, les non-Juifs sont destinés à recevoir avec les Juifs les biens que Dieu réserve à son peuple, ils sont membres du même corps et bénéficient eux aussi de la promesse que Dieu a faite en Jésus-Christ.
7 Je suis devenu serviteur de la Bonne Nouvelle grâce à un don que Dieu, dans sa bonté, m’a accordé en agissant avec puissance. 8 Je suis le moindre de tous les croyantst ; pourtant, Dieu m’a accordé cette faveur d’annoncer aux non-Juifs la richesse infinie du Christ. 9 Je dois mettre en lumière, pour tous les humains, la façon dont Dieu réalise son plan secret. Lui qui est le créateur de toutes choses, il a tenu caché ce plan depuis toujourst, 10 afin que maintenant, grâce à l’Église, les autorités et les puissancest du monde céleste puissent connaître la sagesse divine sous tous ses aspects. 11 Tout cela est conforme au projet éternel de Dieu, qu’il a réalisé par Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur. 12 Dans l’union avec le Christ et par notre foi en lui, nous avons la liberté de nous présenter devant Dieu avec une pleine confiance.
13 Par conséquent, je vous le demande, ne vous laissez pas décourager par les souffrances que j’éprouve pour vous : elles vous assurent un avantage glorieux.L’amour du Christ
14 C’est pourquoi je me mets à genoux devant Dieu, le Père, 15 dont dépend toute famille dans les cieux et sur la terre. 16 Je lui demande que, selon la richesse de sa gloire, il fortifie votre être intérieur par la puissance de son Esprit, 17 et que le Christ habite dans vos cœurs par la foi. Je demande que vous soyez enracinés et solidement établis dans l’amour, 18 pour être capables de comprendre, avec l’ensemble du peuple de Dieu, combien l’amour du Christ est large et long, haut et profond.
19 Oui, puissiez-vous connaître son amour – bien qu’il surpasse toute connaissance – et être ainsi remplis de toute la richesse de Dieu.
20 A Dieu qui a le pouvoir de faire infiniment plus que tout ce que nous demandons ou même imaginons, par la puissance qui agit en nous, 21 à lui soit la gloire dans l’Église et par Jésus-Christ, dans tous les temps et pour toujours ! Amen.
Ephesians 3
1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus in behalf of you Gentiles,--2 if so be that ye have heard of the dispensation of that grace of God which was given me to you-ward;3 how that by revelation was made known unto me the mystery, as I wrote before in few words,4 whereby, when ye read, ye can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ;5 which in other generations was not made known unto the sons of men, as it hath now been revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit;6 to wit, that the Gentiles are fellow-heirs, and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel,7 whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of that grace of God which was given me according to the working of his power.8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach unto the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;9 and to make all men see what is the dispensation of the mystery which for ages hath been hid in God who created all things;10 to the intent that now unto the principalities and the powers in the heavenly places might be made known through the church the manifold wisdom of God,11 according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:12 in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him.13 Wherefore I ask that ye may not faint at my tribulations for you, which are your glory.14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father,15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that ye may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man;17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,18 may be strong to apprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,19 and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye may be filled unto all the fulness of God.20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,21 unto him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all generations for ever and ever.
