Lettre aux Éphésiens 4

L’unité du corps

1 Je vous en supplie, donc, moi qui suis prisonnier parce que je sers le Seigneur : vous que Dieu a appelés, conduisez-vous d’une façon digne de cet appel. 2 Soyez toujours humbles, doux et patients. Supportez-vous les uns les autres avec amour. 3 Efforcez-vous de maintenir l’unité que donne l’Esprit Saint par la paix qui vous lie les uns aux autres. 4 Il y a un seul corpst et un seul Saint-Esprit, de même qu’il y a une seule espérance à laquelle Dieu vous a appelés. 5 Il y a un seul Seigneur, une seule foi, un seul baptême ;

6 il y a un seul Dieu, le Père de tous, qui règne sur tous, agit par tous et demeure en tous.
7 Cependant, chacun de nous a reçu un don particulier, l’un de ceux que le Christ a généreusement accordés.

8 Il est dit dans l’Écriture :
« Quand il est monté vers les hauteurs,
il a capturé des prisonniers ;
il a fait des dons aux hommest. »
9 Or, que veut dire « il est monté » ? Cela présuppose qu’il est aussi descendu dans les régions les plus profondes de la terret. 10 Celui qui est descendu est aussi celui qui est monté au plus haut des cieux afin de remplir tout l’univers. 11 C’est lui qui a fait des dons particuliers aux hommes : des uns il a fait des apôtres, d’autres des prophètes, d’autres encore des évangélistes, des pasteurs ou des enseignantst. 12 C’est ainsi qu’il a rendu le peuple de Dieu apte à accomplir son service, pour faire croître le corps du Christ. 13 De cette façon, nous parviendrons tous ensemble à l’unité de la foi dans la connaissance du Fils de Dieu ; nous deviendrons des adultes dont le développement atteindra à la stature parfaite du Christ. 14 Alors, nous ne serons plus des enfants, emportés par les vagues ou le tourbillon de toutes sortes de doctrines, trompés par des hommes recourant à la ruse pour entraîner les autres dans l’erreur. 15 Au contraire, en proclamant la vérité avec amour, nous grandirons en tout vers le Christ, qui est la tête.

16 C’est grâce à lui que le corps forme un tout solide, bien uni par toutes les articulations dont il est pourvu. Ainsi, lorsque chaque partie fonctionne comme elle doit, le corps entier grandit et se développe par l’amour.

La vie nouvelle des chrétiens

19 Ils ont perdu tout sentiment de honte ; ils se sont livrés au vice et commettent sans aucune retenue toutes sortes d’actions impures.
20 Ce n’est pas là ce que vous avez appris au sujet du Christ ! 21 Vous avez certainement entendu tout ce qui le concerne, et on vous a enseigné, en tant que chrétiens, la vérité qui est en Jésus. 22 Vous devez donc, en renonçant à votre conduite passée, vous débarrasser de votre vieille nature que ses désirs trompeurs mènent à la ruine. 23 Il faut vous laisser complètement renouveler dans votre cœur et votre esprit.

24 Revêtez-vous de la nouvelle nature, créée à la ressemblance de Dieut et qui se manifeste dans la vie juste et sainte qu’inspire la vérité.
25 C’est pourquoi, rejetez le mensonge ! Que chacun dise la vérité à son prochaint, car nous sommes tous membres d’un même corps. 26 Si vous vous mettez en colère, ne péchez past ; que votre colère s’apaise avant le coucher du soleil. 27 Ne donnez pas au diable l’occasion de vous dominer. 28 Que celui qui volait cesse de voler ; qu’il se mette à travailler de ses propres mains pour gagner honnêtement sa vie et avoir ainsi de quoi aider les pauvres. 29 Qu’aucune parole mauvaise ne sorte de votre bouche ; dites seulement des paroles utiles, qui répondent à un besoin et encouragent autrui, pour faire ainsi du bien à ceux qui vous entendent. 30 N’attristez pas le Saint-Espritt que Dieu vous a accordé ; il est la garantie que le jour viendra où Dieu vous délivrera complètement du mal. 31 Chassez loin de vous tout sentiment amer, toute irritation, toute colère, ainsi que les cris et les insultes. Abstenez-vous de toute forme de méchanceté. 32 Soyez bons et pleins d’affection les uns pour les autres ; pardonnez-vous réciproquement, comme Dieu vous a pardonné par le Christt.

Ephesians 4

1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you to walk worthily of the calling wherewith ye were called,2 with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;3 giving diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as also ye were called in one hope of your calling;5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all.7 But unto each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, And gave gifts unto men.9 (Now this, He ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?10 He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)11 And he gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;12 for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:13 till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:14 that we may be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, even Christ;16 from whom all the body fitly framed and knit together through that which every joint supplieth, according to the working in due measure of each several part, maketh the increase of the body unto the building up of itself in love.17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,18 being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart;19 who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.20 But ye did not so learn Christ;21 if so be that ye heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:22 that ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man, that waxeth corrupt after the lusts of deceit;23 and that ye be renewed in the spirit of your mind,24 and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.25 Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:27 neither give place to the devil.28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have whereof to give to him that hath need.29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed unto the day of redemption.31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and railing, be put away from you, with all malice:32 and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, even as God also in Christ forgave you.
