Esther 10

Mordecai’s Greatness

1 King Xerxes levied a tax on the country and the islands of the sea.2 All his acts of power and might along with the whole account of the greatness of Mordecai, whom the king had promoted, are recorded in the history of the kings of the Medes and Persians.

3 Mordecai the Jew was ranked second only to King Xerxes. He was greatly respected by, and popular with, all of the other Jews, since he provided for the good of his people and spoke for the welfare of his fellow Jews.

Mordecai’s Fame Increases

1 King Ahasuerus then imposed forced labor on the land and on the coastlands of the sea.2 Now all the actions carried out under his authority and his great achievements, along with an exact statement concerning the greatness of Mordecai, whom the king promoted, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia?

3 Mordecai the Jew was second only to King Ahasuerus. He was the highest-rankingt Jew, and he was admired by his numerous relatives.t He worked enthusiasticallyt for the good of his people and was an advocate for the welfare oft all his descendants.s
