1 Il re Assuero impose un tributo al paese e alle isole del mare.2 Or quanto a tutti i fatti concernenti la potenza e il valore di Mardocheo e quanto alla completa descrizione della sua grandezza e del come il re lo ingrandì, sono cose scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Media e di Persia.3 Poiché il Giudeo Mardocheo era il secondo dopo il re Assuero: grande fra i Giudei, e amato dalla moltitudine dei suoi fratelli; cercò il bene del suo popolo, e parlò per la pace di tutta la sua stirpe.
