Ezekiel 39

The Death of Gog and His Army

1 “Human, prophesy against Gog and say, ‘This is what the Lord God says: I am against you, Gog, chief ruler of Meshech and Tubal.2 I will turn you around and lead you. I will bring you from the far north and send you to attack the mountains of Israel.3 I will knock your bow out of your left hand and throw down your arrows from your right hand.4 You, all your troops, and the nations with you will fall dead on the mountains of Israel. I will let you be food for every bird that eats meat and for every wild animal.5 You will lie fallen on the ground, because I have spoken, says the Lord God.

6 I will send fire on Magog and those who live in safety on the coastlands. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
7 “ ‘I will make myself known among my people Israel, and I will not let myself be dishonored anymore. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.

8 It is coming! It will happen, says the Lord God. The time I talked about is coming.
9 “ ‘Then those who live in the cities of Israel will come out and make fires with the enemy’s weapons. They will burn them, both large and small shields, bows and arrows, war clubs, and spears. They will use the weapons to burn in their fires for seven years.

10 They will not need to take wood from the field or chop firewood from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons. In this way they will take the treasures of those who took their treasures; they will take the loot of those who took their loot, says the Lord God.

11 “ ‘At that time I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, in the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Dead Sea. It will block the road for travelers. Gog and all his army will be buried there, so people will call it The Valley of Gog’s Army.
12 “ ‘The people of Israel will be burying them for seven months to make the land clean again.

13 All the people in the land will bury them, and they will be honored on the day of my victory, says the Lord God.
14 “ ‘The people of Israel will choose men to work through the land to make it clean. Along with others, they will bury Gog’s soldiers still lying dead on the ground. After the seven months are finished, they will still search.15 As they go through the land, anyone who sees a human bone is to put a marker by it. The sign will stay there until the gravediggers bury the bone in The Valley of Gog’s Army.

16 A city will be there named Hamonah. So they will make the land clean again.’
17 “Human, this is what the Lord God says: Speak to every kind of bird and wild animal: ‘Come together, come! Come together from all around to my sacrifice, a great sacrifice which I will prepare for you on the mountains of Israel. Eat flesh and drink blood!18 You are to eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the rulers of the earth as if they were fat animals from Bashan: male sheep, lambs, goats, and bulls.19 You are to eat and drink from my sacrifice which I have prepared for you, eating fat until you are full and drinking blood until you are drunk.

20 At my table you are to eat until you are full of horses and riders, mighty men and all kinds of soldiers,’ says the Lord God.
21 “I will show my glory among the nations. All the nations will see my power when I punish them.22 From that time onward the people of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God.23 The nations will know Israel was taken away captive because they turned against me. So I turned away from them and handed them over to their enemies until all of them died in war.

24 Because of their uncleanness and their sins, I punished them and turned away from them.
25 “So this is what the Lord God says: Now I will bring the people of Jacob back from captivity, and I will have mercy on the whole nation of Israel. I will not let them dishonor me.26 The people will forget their shame and how they rejected me when they live again in safety on their own land with no one to make them afraid.27 I will bring the people back from other lands and gather them from the lands of their enemies. So I will use my people to show many nations that I am holy.28 Then my people will know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them into captivity among the nations, but then I brought them back to their own land, leaving no one behind.29 I will not turn away from them anymore, because I will put my Spirit into the people of Israel, says the Lord God.”

Ezekiel 39

1 “As for you, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say: ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: Look, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal!2 I will turn you around and drag you along;t I will lead you up from the remotest parts of the north and bring you against the mountains of Israel.3 I will knock your bow out of your left hand and make your arrows fall from your right hand.4 You will fall dead on the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the people who are with you. I give you as food to every kind of bird and every wild beast.5 You will fall dead in the open field; for I have spoken, declares the sovereign Lord.

6 I will send fire on Magog and those who live securely in the coastlands; then they will know that I am the Lord.
7 “‘I will make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; I will not let my holy name be profaned anymore. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.s

8 Realize that it is coming and it will be done, declares the sovereign Lord. It is the day I have spoken about.
9 “‘Then those who live in the cities of Israel will go out and use the weapons for kindlingt – the shields,t bows and arrows, war clubs and spears – they will burn them for seven years.

10 They will not need to taket wood from the field or cut down trees from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons. They will take the loot from those who looted them and seize the plunder of those who plundered them,t declares the sovereign Lord.
11 “‘On that day I will assign Gog a grave in Israel. It will be the valley of those who travel east of the sea; it will block the way of the travelers. There they will bury Gog and all his horde; they will call it the valley of Hamon-Gog.t12 For seven months Israelt will bury them, in order to cleanse the land.13 All the people of the land will bury them, and it will be a memorialt for them on the day I magnify myself, declares the sovereign Lord.14 They will designate men to scout continuallyt through the land, burying those who remain on the surface of the ground,t in order to cleanse it. They will search for seven full months.15 When the scouts surveyt the land and see a human bone, they will place a sign by it, until those assigned to burial duty have buried itt in the valley of Hamon-Gog.

16 (A city by the name of Hamonaht will also be there.) They will cleanse the land.’
17 “As for you, son of man, this is what the sovereign Lord says: Tell every kind of bird and every wild beast: ‘Assemble and come! Gather from all around to my slaughtert which I am going to make for you, a great slaughter on the mountains of Israel! You will eat flesh and drink blood.18 You will eat the flesh of warriorss and drink the blood of the princes of the earth – the rams, lambs, goats, and bulls, all of them fattened animals of Bashan.19 You will eat fat until you are full, and drink blood until you are drunk,s at my slaughtert which I have made for you.

20 You will fill up at my table with horses and charioteers,t with warriors and all the soldiers,’ declares the sovereign Lord.
21 “I will display my majestyt among the nations. All the nations will witness the judgment I have executed, and the power I have exhibitedt among them.22 Then the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God, from that day forward.23 The nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile due to their iniquity,t for they were unfaithful to me. So I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies; all of them died by the sword.

24 According to their uncleanness and rebellion I have dealt with them, and I hid my face from them.
25 “Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: Now I will restoret the fortunes of Jacob, and I will have mercy on the entire house of Israel. I will be zealous for my holy name.26 They will bear their shame for all their unfaithful acts against me, when they live securely on their land with no one to make them afraid.27 When I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will magnify myself among them in the sight of many nations.28 Then they will know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations, and then gathered them into their own land. I will not leave any of them in exilet any longer.

29 I will no longer hide my face from them, when I pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel,s declares the sovereign Lord.”
