Las bendiciones de Dios vienen por la fe

1 ¡Qué tontos son ustedes, gálatas! ¿Quién los embrujó? Yo les pinté claramente, con palabras, la muerte de Jesucristo en la cruz.2 Sólo quiero que me contesten una cosa: ¿recibieron ustedes el Espíritu por cumplir la leyt? Ustedes recibieron el Espíritu porque escucharon las buenas noticiast y creyeron en ellas.3 Comenzaron su nueva vida con el Espíritu, ¿y ahora intentan perfeccionarla por medio de un pedazo de piel? ¡Qué tontería!4 Han pasado por muchas experiencias, ¿será que las van a desperdiciar? Quiero creer que no.

5 ¿Acaso Dios les da el Espíritu por cumplir la ley? ¿Acaso Dios hace milagros entre ustedes porque cumplen la ley? Dios les da el Espíritu y hace milagros porque escucharon la buena noticia de salvación y creyeron en ella.
6 Así «Abrahamt creyó a Dios, quien tomó en cuenta la fe de Abraham y lo aprobó».t7 Entonces tienen que saber que los verdaderos hijos de Abraham son los que tienen fe.8 La Escriturat preveía lo que pasaría en el futuro: debido a la fe de los que no son judíos, Dios los aprobaría y le dio a Abraham esta buena noticia: «Todas las naciones serán bendecidas por medio de ti».t

9 Esto significa que todos los que tienen fe compartirán la misma bendición que recibió Abraham por haber creído.
10 Los que se preocupan sólo por cumplir la ley están bajo maldición, porque está escrito: «Uno debe hacer todo lo que dice la ley y si no obedece siempre la ley, estará bajo maldición».t11 Entonces es claro que nadie logra ser aprobado por Dios a través de la ley, porque «el aprobado por Dios, por la fe vivirá».t12 La ley no se basa en la fe. Por el contrario, «la persona que practica la ley obtiene vida gracias al mandamiento».t13 Cristo pagó para librarnos de la maldición de la ley y aceptó estar bajo maldición en lugar de nosotros. La Escritura dice: «Maldito todo aquel cuyo cuerpo es colgado en un madero».t

14 Cristo hizo eso para que las bendiciones que recibió Abraham llegaran a las demás naciones. Las bendiciones vienen a través de Jesucristo para que por medio de la fe recibamos el Espíritu que Dios prometió.

La ley y la promesa

15 Hermanos, les voy a dar un ejemplo de la vida diaria: imagínense que alguien hace un pacto. Una vez que ese pacto es oficial, nadie puede agregarle ni cambiarle nada, ni mucho menos ignorarlo.16 Dios les hizo promesas a Abrahamt y a su «descendencia»t. No dice: «y a tus descendencias» refiriéndose a muchas, sino que dice: «y a tu descendencia», refiriéndose a uno solo, Cristo.17 Lo que estoy diciendo es que el pacto que Dios hizo con Abraham fue oficial mucho antes de que llegara la leyt. La ley llegó cuatrocientos treinta años después. Por eso la ley no pudo anular el pacto ni cambiar las promesas de Dios.

18 Las bendiciones que Dios nos prometiót no las podemos recibir por obedecer la ley. Si fuera así, ya no sería una promesa de Dios, pero la verdad es que Dios entregó gratuitamente sus bendiciones a Abraham por medio de una promesa.
19 Entonces, ¿para qué se hizo la ley? La ley fue dada después para mostrar las maldades que hace la gente contra la voluntad de Dios. La ley era válida hasta el momento en que llegara aquella descendencia que iba a recibir la promesa. Los ángeles le dieron la ley a Moisés, quien sirvió de mediador.20 Sin embargo, Moisés no es el mediador de una sola descendencia, pero Dios es uno solo.t

El propósito de la ley de Moisés

21 ¿Significa esto que la leyt se opone a las promesas de Dios? ¡Claro que no! Dios nunca dio una ley que pudiera dar nueva vida al mundo. Si fuera así, podríamos estar aprobados por cumplir la ley.

22 Pero la Escriturat encierra a todo el mundo bajo el poder del pecado, para que los que creen puedan recibir por la fe en Jesucristot la nueva vida que Dios prometió.
23 Antes de llegar esta fe, la ley nos custodiaba como a prisioneros. No tuvimos libertad sino hasta que la fe fue revelada.24 Por eso, la ley era nuestro guardiánt hasta que llegó Cristo. El resultado es que estamos aprobados a través de la fe.

25 Ahora que ha llegado la fe, ya no necesitamos que la ley sea nuestro guardián.
26 Todos ustedes son hijos de Dios por la fe en Jesucristo,27 porque ustedes fueron bautizadost en Cristo y ahora están revestidos de él.28 Todos son uno en Jesucristo, no importa si son judíos o no,t esclavos o libres, hombres o mujeres.

29 Entonces, si ustedes pertenecen a Cristo también son la descendencia de Abrahamt. Si son la descendencia de Abraham también son herederos de las promesas que Dios le hizo a él.

Galatians 3

Faith Brings Righteousness

1 You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?4 Did you suffer so many things in vain-if indeed it was in vain?5 So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

6 Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.7 Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham.8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU."9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.

10 For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM."11 Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."12 However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM."13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us-for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE"-14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Intent of the Law

15 Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it.16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ.17 What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.18 For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.

19 Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.20 Now a mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one.21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.22 But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.
