La libertad cristiana
1 Cristo nos liberó para que seamos libres. Por lo tanto manteneos firmes en esa libertad y no os sometáis otra vez al yugo de la esclavitud.t
2 Escuchadme: Yo, Pablo, os digo que si os sometéis al rito de la circuncisión, Cristo no os servirá de nada. 3 Quiero, pues, repetir que todo aquel que se circuncida está obligado a cumplir cuanto manda la ley de Moisés. 4 Vosotros, los que buscáis quedar libres de culpa cumpliendo la ley, os habéis apartado de Cristo; os habéis separado del amor de Dios.t 5 Pero nosotros, por medio del Espíritu tenemos la esperanza de alcanzar la justicia que está basada en la fe.t
6 Porque si estamos unidos a Cristo Jesús, de nada vale estar o no estar circuncidados.t Lo que realmente vale es tener fe y que esa fe nos haga vivir con amor.t
7 Vosotros marchabais bien. ¿Quién, pues, hizo que dejarais de obedecer a la verdad? 8 No fue Dios, que os ha llamado.t 9 Se dice que “un poco de levadura hace fermentar toda la masa”,t
10 y yo tengo confianza en el Señor de que no vais a pensar de otro modo. Pero Dios castigará a ese que os anda perturbando, quienquiera que sea.
11 Por lo que a mí respecta, hermanos, si todavía insistiera en que los creyentes se circunciden, los judíos no me perseguirían, ya que en ese caso el mensaje de la cruz de Cristo no los ofendería.t
12 En cuanto a esos que os andan perturbando, ¡ojalá se castren de una vez!t3. El uso de la libertad (5.13–6.10)
El amor, resumen de la ley
13 Hermanos, habéis sido llamados a ser libres. Pero no uséis esta libertad para dar rienda suelta a vuestros instintos. Más bien servíos por amor los unos a los otros.t 14 Porque toda la ley se resume en este solo mandamiento: “Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”.t
15 Tened cuidado, porque si os mordéis y coméis unos a otros llegaréis a destruiros mutuamente.La vida conforme al Espíritu de Dios
16 Por lo tanto, digo: Vivid según el Espíritu y no busquéis satisfacert vuestros malos deseos.t 17 Porque los malos deseos están en contra del Espíritu, y el Espíritu está en contra de los malos deseos. El uno está en contra de los otros y por eso no podéis hacer lo que quisierais.t
18 Pero si os guía el Espíritu, entonces ya no estaréis sometidos a la ley.t
19 Es fácil descubrir cómo se portan quienes siguen los malos deseos:t cometen inmoralidades sexuales, hacen cosas impuras y viciosas, 20 adoran ídolos y practican la brujería. Mantienen odios, discordias y celos. Se irritan fácilmente, provocan rivalidades, divisiones y partidismos.
21 Son envidiosos,t borrachos, glotones y otras cosas por el estilo. Os advierto, como ya antes lo hice, que quienes así se conducen no tendrán parte en el reino de Dios.
22 En cambio, el Espíritu dat frutos de amor, alegría y paz; de paciencia, amabilidad y bondad; de fidelidad, 23 humildad y dominio propio. No hay ley que condene cosas como estas. 24 Y los que son de Cristo Jesús han crucificado ya la naturaleza del hombre pecador junto con sus pasiones y malos deseos.t
25 Si ahora vivimos por el Espíritu, dejemos también que el Espíritu nos guíe.
26 No seamos orgullosos ni sembremos rivalidades y envidias entre nosotros.t
Galatians 5
Freedom of the Believer
1 For freedomt Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yokes of slavery.2 Listen! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you at all!3 And I testify again to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obeyt the whole law.4 You who are trying to be declared righteoust by the law have been alienatedt from Christ; you have fallen away from grace!5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait expectantly for the hope of righteousness.
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight – the only thing that matters is faith working through love.t
7 You were running well; who prevented you from obeyingt the truth?8 This persuasiont does not come from the one who calls you!9 A little yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise!t10 I am confidentt in the Lord that you will accept no other view.t But the one who is confusingt you will pay the penalty,t whoever he may be.11 Now, brothers and sisters,t if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted?s In that case the offense of the crosss has been removed.t
12 I wish those agitatorst would go so far as tot castrate themselves!t
Practice Love
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters;t only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh,t but through love serve one another.t14 For the whole law can be summed up in a single commandment,t namely, “You must love your neighbor as yourself.”s15 However, if you continually bite and devour one another,t beware that you are not consumedt by one another.16 But I say, livet by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.t17 For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desirest that are opposed to the flesh, for these are in opposition tot each other, so that you cannot do what you want.18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.19 Now the works of the flesht are obvious:t sexual immorality, impurity, depravity,20 idolatry, sorcery,t hostilities,t strife,t jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions,t factions,
21 envying,t murder,s drunkenness, carousing,t and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!
22 But the fruit of the Spiritt is love,s joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,t23 gentleness, andt self-control. Against such things there is no law.24 Now those who belong to Christs have crucified the flesht with its passionst and desires.25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also behave in accordance witht the Spirit.
26 Let us not become conceited,t provokingt one another, being jealoust of one another.
