Gálatas 5

Libertad en Cristo

1  Por lo tanto, Cristo en verdad nos ha liberado. Ahora asegúrense de permanecer libres y no se esclavicen de nuevo a la ley.

2 ¡Presten atención! Yo, Pablo, les digo lo siguiente: si dependen de la circuncisión para hacerse justos ante Dios, entonces Cristo no les servirá de nada. 3 Lo repito: si pretenden lograr el favor de Dios mediante la circuncisión, entonces están obligados a obedecer cada una de las ordenanzas de la ley de Moisés. 4 Pues, si ustedes pretenden hacerse justos ante Dios por cumplir la ley, ¡han quedado separados de Cristo! Han caído de la gracia de Dios.

5 Sin embargo, los que vivimos por el Espíritu esperamos con anhelo recibir por la fe la justicia que Dios nos ha prometido. 6 Pues, una vez que depositamos nuestra fe en Cristo Jesús, de nada sirve estar o no circuncidado. Lo importante es la fe que se expresa por medio del amor.

7 Ustedes corrían muy bien la carrera. ¿Quién les impidió seguir la verdad? 8 Seguro que no fue Dios, porque él es quien los llamó a ser libres. 9 ¡Esa falsa enseñanza es como un poquito de levadura que impregna toda la masa! 10 Confío en que el Señor los guardará de creer falsas enseñanzas. Dios juzgará a la persona que los está confundiendo, sea quien fuere.

11 Amados hermanos, si yo todavía predicara que ustedes deben circuncidarse —como algunos dicen que hago—, ¿por qué, entonces, aún se me persigue? Si ya no predicara que la salvación es por medio de la cruz de Cristo, nadie se ofendería. 12 Cómo me gustaría que esos perturbadores que quieren mutilarlos a ustedes mediante la circuncisión se mutilaran ellos mismos.t

13 Pues ustedes, mis hermanos, han sido llamados a vivir en libertad; pero no usen esa libertad para satisfacer los deseos de la naturaleza pecaminosa. Al contrario, usen la libertad para servirse unos a otros por amor. 14 Pues toda la ley puede resumirse en un solo mandato: «Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo»t, 15 pero si están siempre mordiéndose y devorándose unos a otros, ¡tengan cuidado! Corren peligro de destruirse unos a otros.

Vivir por el poder del Espíritu

16 Por eso les digo: dejen que el Espíritu Santo los guíe en la vida. Entonces no se dejarán llevar por los impulsos de la naturaleza pecaminosa. 17 La naturaleza pecaminosa desea hacer el mal, que es precisamente lo contrario de lo que quiere el Espíritu. Y el Espíritu nos da deseos que se oponen a lo que desea la naturaleza pecaminosa. Estas dos fuerzas luchan constantemente entre sí, entonces ustedes no son libres para llevar a cabo sus buenas intenciones, 18 pero cuando el Espíritu los guía, ya no están obligados a cumplir la ley de Moisés.

19 Cuando ustedes siguen los deseos de la naturaleza pecaminosa, los resultados son más que claros: inmoralidad sexual, impureza, pasiones sensuales, 20 idolatría, hechicería, hostilidad, peleas, celos, arrebatos de furia, ambición egoísta, discordias, divisiones, 21 envidia, borracheras, fiestas desenfrenadas y otros pecados parecidos. Permítanme repetirles lo que les dije antes: cualquiera que lleve esa clase de vida no heredará el reino de Dios.

22 En cambio, la clase de fruto que el Espíritu Santo produce en nuestra vida es: amor, alegría, paz, paciencia, gentileza, bondad, fidelidad, 23 humildad y control propio. ¡No existen leyes contra esas cosas!

24 Los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús han clavado en la cruz las pasiones y los deseos de la naturaleza pecaminosa y los han crucificado allí. 25 Ya que vivimos por el Espíritu, sigamos la guía del Espíritu en cada aspecto de nuestra vida. 26 No nos hagamos vanidosos ni nos provoquemos unos a otros ni tengamos envidia unos de otros.

GALATIANS 5

Christ Gives Freedom

1 Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and don't ever become slaves of the Law again.
2 I, Paul, promise you that Christ won't do you any good if you get circumcised. 3 If you do, you must obey the whole Law. 4 And if you try to please God by obeying the Law, you have cut yourself off from Christ and his gift of undeserved grace. 5 But the Spirit makes us sure God will accept us because of our faith in Christ.

6 If you are a follower of Christ Jesus, it makes no difference whether you are circumcised or not. All that matters is your faith that makes you love others.
7 You were doing so well until someone made you turn from the truth. 8 And that person was certainly not sent by the one who chose you. 9 t A little yeast can change a whole batch of dough,

10 but you belong to the Lord. This makes me certain you will do what I say, instead of what someone else tells you to do. Whoever is causing trouble for you will be punished.
11 My friends, if I still preach that people need to be circumcised, why am I in so much trouble? The message about the cross would no longer be a problem, if I told people to be circumcised.

12 I wish everyone who is upsetting you would not only get circumcised, but would cut off much more!
13 My friends, you were chosen to be free. So don't use your freedom as an excuse to do anything you want. Use it as an opportunity to serve each other with love. 14 t All the Law says can be summed up in the command to love others as much as you love yourself.

15 But if you keep attacking each other like wild animals, you had better watch out or you will destroy yourselves.

God's Spirit //and Our Own Desires

18 But if you obey the Spirit, the Law of Moses has no control over you.
19 People's desires make them give in to immoral ways, filthy thoughts, and shameful deeds. 20 They worship idols, practice witchcraft, hate others, and are hard to get along with. People become jealous, angry, and selfish. They not only argue and cause trouble, but they are

21 envious. They get drunk, carry on at wild parties, and do other evil things as well. I told you before, and I am telling you again: No one who does these things will share in the blessings of God's kingdom.
22 God's Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, 23 gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways. 24 And because we belong to Christ Jesus, we have killed our selfish feelings and desires. 25 God's Spirit has given us life, and so we should follow the Spirit. 26 But don't be conceited or make others jealous by claiming to be better than they are.
