III.— LA VERDADERA LIBERTAD CRISTIANA (5,1—6,10)

Libres en Cristo

1 Cristo nos ha liberado para que disfrutemos de libertad. Manténganse, pues, firmes y no permitan que los conviertan de nuevo en esclavos.t 2 Yo, Pablo, lo digo: si se dejan circuncidar, de nada les servirá ya Cristo. 3 Solemnemente se lo aseguro una vez más: quien se hace circuncidar, debe cumplir enteramente la ley de Moisés. 4 Y querer alcanzar la amistad de Dios mediante el cumplimiento de la ley, significa romper con Cristo, quedarse fuera de la acción de la gracia. 5 Por eso, nosotros abrigamos la esperanza de ser restablecidos en la amistad divinat por la fe, mediante la acción del Espíritu.t

6 Como cristianos, en efecto, da lo mismo estar circuncidados que no estarlo; lo que cuenta es la fe, que actúa por medio del amor.t
7 Ustedes iban por el buen camino. ¿Quién les impidió seguir la verdad? 8 Desde luego, no fue el Dios que los llamó. 9 Un poco de levadura hace fermentar toda la masa.

10 Cierto que el Señor me hace confiar en que ustedes no cambiarán de comportamiento; pero el que los está perturbando tendrá su merecido, sea quien fuere.
11 En cuanto a mí, hermanos, si fuera cierto que todavía recomiendo la circuncisión, ¿en razón de qué me siguen persiguiendo? ¡El misterio de Cristo crucificadot no sería ya motivo de polémica!t

12 Y en cuanto a esos que los están soliviantando, ¡más valiera que se castrasen de una vezt!
13 Hermanos, han sido llamados a disfrutar de libertad. ¡No utilicen esa libertad como tapadera de apetencias puramente humanast! Al contrario, háganse esclavos los unos de los otros por amor. 14 Toda la ley se cumple, si se cumple este solo mandamiento: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.t

15 Pero si andan mordiéndose y devorándose unos a otros, terminarán por destruirse mutuamente.

La vida según el Espíritu

18 Pero si los guía el Espíritu, ya no están bajo el dominio de la ley.
19 Sabido es cómo se comportan los que viven sometidos a sus apetitos desordenados: son adúlteros, lujuriosos, libertinos,t 20 idólatras, supersticiosos; alimentan odios, promueven contiendas, se enzarzan en rivalidades, rebosan rencor; son egoístas, partidistas, sectarios,

21 envidiosost, borrachos, amigos de orgías, y otras cosas por el estilo. Ya se lo advertí a ustedes en su día y ahora vuelvo a hacerlo: esos tales no heredarán el reino de Dios.
22 En cambio, el Espíritu produce amor, alegría, paz, tolerancia, amabilidad, bondad, lealtad,t 23 humildad y dominio de sí mismo. Ninguna ley existe en contra de todas estas cosas. 24 Y no en vano los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús han crucificado lo que en ellos hay de apetitos desordenados, junto con sus pasiones y malos deseos.t 25 Si, pues, vivimos animados por el Espíritu, actuemos conforme al Espíritu. 26 No busquemos vanaglorias, enzarzándonos en rivalidades y envidiándonos unos a otros.

Galatians 5

Freedom of the Believer

1 For freedomt Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yokes of slavery.2 Listen! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you at all!3 And I testify again to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obeyt the whole law.4 You who are trying to be declared righteoust by the law have been alienatedt from Christ; you have fallen away from grace!5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait expectantly for the hope of righteousness.

6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight – the only thing that matters is faith working through love.t
7 You were running well; who prevented you from obeyingt the truth?8 This persuasiont does not come from the one who calls you!9 A little yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise!t10 I am confidentt in the Lord that you will accept no other view.t But the one who is confusingt you will pay the penalty,t whoever he may be.11 Now, brothers and sisters,t if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted?s In that case the offense of the crosss has been removed.t

12 I wish those agitatorst would go so far as tot castrate themselves!t

Practice Love

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters;t only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh,t but through love serve one another.t14 For the whole law can be summed up in a single commandment,t namely, “You must love your neighbor as yourself.”s15 However, if you continually bite and devour one another,t beware that you are not consumedt by one another.16 But I say, livet by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.t17 For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desirest that are opposed to the flesh, for these are in opposition tot each other, so that you cannot do what you want.18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.19 Now the works of the flesht are obvious:t sexual immorality, impurity, depravity,20 idolatry, sorcery,t hostilities,t strife,t jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions,t factions,

21 envying,t murder,s drunkenness, carousing,t and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!
22 But the fruit of the Spiritt is love,s joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,t23 gentleness, andt self-control. Against such things there is no law.24 Now those who belong to Christs have crucified the flesht with its passionst and desires.25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also behave in accordance witht the Spirit.

26 Let us not become conceited,t provokingt one another, being jealoust of one another.
