Genesis 13
1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South.2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.3 And he went on his journeys from the South even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Ai,4 unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of Jehovah.5 And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.7 And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land.8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen; for we are brethren.9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me. If thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if thou take the right hand, then I will go to the left.10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before Jehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as thou goest unto Zoar.11 So Lot chose him all the Plain of the Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners against Jehovah exceedingly.
14 And Jehovah said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward:15 for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then may thy seed also be numbered.17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for unto thee will I give it.18 And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built there an altar unto Jehovah.

Abram’s Solution to the Strife
1 So Abram went up from Egypt into the Negev.ts He took his wife and all his possessions with him, as well as Lot.t
2 (Now Abram was very wealthyt in livestock, silver, and gold.)t
3 And he journeyed from place to placet from the Negev as far as Bethel.s He returnedt to the place where he had pitched his tentt at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai.
4 This was the place where he had first built the altar,t and there Abram worshiped the Lord.t
5 Now Lot, who was travelingt with Abram, also hadt flocks, herds, and tents.6 But the land couldt not support them while they were living side by side.t Because their possessions were so great, they were not able to livet alongside one another.
7 So there were quarrelst between Abram’s herdsmen and Lot’s herdsmen.s (Now the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land at that time.)t
8 Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no quarreling between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are close relatives.t
9 Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself now from me. If you got to the left, then I’ll go to the right, but if you go to the right, then I’ll go to the left.”
10 Lot looked up and sawt the whole regiont of the Jordan. He noticedt that all of it was well-watered (before the Lord obliterateds Sodom and Gomorrah)t like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt,s all the way to Zoar.
11 Lot chose for himself the whole region of the Jordan and traveledt toward the east.
So the relatives separated from each other.ts12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan, but Lot settled among the cities of the Jordan plaint and pitched his tents next to Sodom.
13 (Nowt the peoplet of Sodom were extremely wicked rebels against the Lord.)t
14 After Lot had departed, the Lord said to Abram,t “Lookts from the place where you stand to the north, south, east, and west.15 I will give all the land that you see to you and your descendantst forever.16 And I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone is able to count the dust of the earth, then your descendants also can be counted.t
17 Get up andt walk throughoutt the land,t for I will give it to you.”
18 So Abram moved his tents and went to livet by the oakst of Mamre in Hebron, and he built an altar to the Lord there.
