Desobediencia y Caída del Hombre

1 La serpiente era más astuta que cualquiera de los animales del campo que el Señor Dios había hecho. Y dijo a la mujer: "¿Conque Dios les ha dicho: 'No comerán de ningún árbol del huerto'?"2 La mujer respondió a la serpiente: "Del fruto de los árboles del huerto podemos comer;3 pero del fruto del árbol que está en medio del huerto, Dios ha dicho: 'No comerán de él, ni lo tocarán, para que no mueran.'"4 Y la serpiente dijo a la mujer: "Ciertamente no morirán.5 Pues Dios sabe que el día que de él coman, se les abrirán los ojos y ustedes serán como Dios, conociendo el bien y el mal."6 Cuando la mujer vio que el árbol era bueno para comer, y que era agradable a los ojos, y que el árbol era deseable para alcanzar sabiduría, tomó de su fruto y comió. También dio a su marido que estaba con ella, y él comió.

7 Entonces fueron abiertos los ojos de ambos, y conocieron que estaban desnudos; y cosieron hojas de higuera y se hicieron delantales.

Sentencia por el Pecado y Promesa de Redención

8 Y oyeron al Señor Dios que se paseaba en el huerto al fresco del día. Entonces el hombre y su mujer se escondieron de la presencia del Señor Dios entre los árboles del huerto.9 Pero el Señor Dios llamó al hombre y le dijo: "¿Dónde estás?"10 Y él respondió: "Te oí en el huerto, tuve miedo porque estaba desnudo, y me escondí."11 "¿Quién te ha hecho saber que estabas desnudo?" le preguntó Dios. "¿Has comido del árbol del cual Yo te mandé que no comieras?"12 El hombre respondió: "La mujer que Tú me diste por compañera me dio del árbol, y yo comí."

13 Entonces el Señor Dios dijo a la mujer: "¿Qué es esto que has hecho?" "La serpiente me engañó, y yo comí," respondió la mujer.
14 Y el Señor Dios dijo a la serpiente: "Por cuanto has hecho esto, Maldita serás más que todos los animales, Y más que todas las bestias del campo. Sobre tu vientre andarás, Y polvo comerás Todos los días de tu vida.15 Pondré enemistad Entre tú y la mujer, Y entre tu simiente y su simiente; él te herirá en la cabeza, Y tú lo herirás en el talón."

16 A la mujer dijo: "En gran manera multiplicaré Tu dolor en el parto, Con dolor darás a luz los hijos. Con todo, tu deseo será para tu marido, Y él tendrá dominio sobre ti."
17 Entonces el Señor dijo a Adán: "Por cuanto has escuchado la voz de tu mujer y has comido del árbol del cual te ordené, diciendo: 'No comerás de él,' Maldita será la tierra por tu causa; Con trabajo (dolor) comerás de ella Todos los días de tu vida.18 Espinos y cardos te producirá, Y comerás de las plantas del campo.

19 Con el sudor de tu rostro Comerás el pan Hasta que vuelvas a la tierra, Porque de ella fuiste tomado; Pues polvo eres, Y al polvo volverás."
20 El hombre le puso por nombre Eva a su mujer, porque ella era la madre de todos los vivientes.

21 El Señor Dios hizo vestiduras de piel para Adán y su mujer, y los vistió.

Castigo por el Pecado

22 Entonces el Señor Dios dijo: "Ahora el hombre ha venido a ser como uno de Nosotros (Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo), conociendo ellos el bien y el mal. Cuidado ahora, no vaya a extender su mano y tome también del árbol de la vida, y coma y viva para siempre."23 Y el Señor Dios lo echó del huerto del Edén, para que labrara la tierra de la cual fue tomado.24 Expulsó, pues, al hombre; y al oriente del huerto del Edén puso querubines, y una espada encendida que giraba en todas direcciones para guardar el camino del árbol de la vida.

Genesis 3

The Temptation and the Fall

1 Nowt the serpents was more shrewdts than any of the wild animalst that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Is it really true thatt Gods said, ‘You must not eat from any tree of the orchard’?”t2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eatt of the fruit from the trees of the orchard;3 but concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the orchard God said, ‘You must not eat from it, and you must not touch it,s or else you will die.’”t4 The serpent said to the woman, “Surely you will not die,ts

5 for God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will opent and you will be like divine beings who knowt good and evil.”s
6 Whent the woman saw that the tree produced fruit that was good for food,t was attractivets to the eye, and was desirable for making one wise,ts she took some of its fruit and ate it.ts She also gave some of it to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.s

7 Then the eyes of both of them opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

The Judgment Oracles of God at the Fall

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God moving aboutt in the orchard at the breezy timet of the day, and they hidt from the Lord God among the trees of the orchard.9 But the Lord God called tot the man and said to him, “Where are you?”s10 The man replied,t “I heard you moving aboutt in the orchard, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.”11 And the Lord Godt said, “Who told you that you were naked?s Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”s12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave me, she gavet me some fruitt from the tree and I ate it.”

13 So the Lord God said to the woman, “What is thist you have done?” And the woman replied, “The serpents trickedt me, and I ate.”

14 The Lord God said to the serpent,s
“Because you have done this,
cursedt are you above all the wild beasts
and all the living creatures of the field!
On your belly you will crawlt
and dust you will eats all the days of your life.

15 And I will put hostilityt between you and the woman
and between your offspring and her offspring;s
her offspring will attackt your head,
andt yous will attack her offspring’s heel.”ts

16 To the woman he said,
“I will greatly increaset your labor pains;t
with pain you will give birth to children.
You will want to control your husband,t
but he will dominatets you.”

17 But to Adamt he said,
“Because you obeyedt your wife
and ate from the tree about which I commanded you,
‘You must not eat from it,’
cursed is the grounds thanks to you;t
in painful toil you will eats of it all the days of your life.

18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
but you will eat the graint of the field.

19 By the sweat of your browt you will eat food
until you return to the ground,s
for out of it you were taken;
for you are dust, and to dust you will return.”s
20 The mant named his wife Eve,s becauset she was the mother of all the living.t21 The Lord God made garments from skins for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.22 And the Lord God said, “Nowt that the man has become like one of us,s knowingt good and evil, he must not be allowedt to stretch out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”23 So the Lord God expelled himt from the orchard in Eden to cultivate the ground from which he had been taken.

24 When he drovet the man out, he placed on the eastern sidet of the orchard in Eden angelic sentriests who used the flame of a whirling swordt to guard the way to the tree of life.
