GÉNESIS 4

Caín y Abel

1 Conoció Adán a su mujer Eva, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: Por voluntad de Jehová he adquiridot varón. 2 Después dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Y Abel fue pastor de ovejas, y Caín fue labrador de la tierra. 3 Y aconteció andando el tiempo, que Caín trajo del fruto de la tierra una ofrenda a Jehová. 4 Y Abel trajo también de los primogénitos de sus ovejas, de lo más gordo de ellas. Y miró Jehová con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda;t 5 pero no miró con agrado a Caín y a la ofrenda suya. Y se ensañó Caín en gran manera, y decayó su semblante. 6 Entonces Jehová dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué te has ensañado, y por qué ha decaído tu semblante?

7 Si bien hicieres, ¿no serás enaltecido? y si no hicieres bien, el pecado está a la puerta; con todo esto, a ti será su deseo, y tú te enseñorearás de él.t
8 Y dijo Caín a su hermano Abel: Salgamos al campo. Y aconteció que estando ellos en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel, y lo mató.t 9 Y Jehová dijo a Caín: ¿Dónde está Abel tu hermano? Y él respondió: No sé. ¿Soy yo acaso guarda de mi hermano? 10 Y él le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra. 11 Ahora, pues, maldito seas tú de la tierra, que abrió su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano. 12 Cuando labres la tierra, no te volverá a dar su fuerza; errante y extranjero serás en la tierra. 13 Y dijo Caín a Jehová: Grande es mi castigo para ser soportado. 14 He aquí me echas hoy de la tierra, y de tu presencia me esconderé, y seré errante y extranjero en la tierra; y sucederá que cualquiera que me hallare, me matará.

15 Y le respondió Jehová: Ciertamente cualquiera que matare a Caín, siete veces será castigado. Entonces Jehová puso señal en Caín, para que no lo matase cualquiera que le hallara.
16 Salió, pues, Caín de delante de Jehová, y habitó en tierra de Nod,t al oriente de Edén. 17 Y conoció Caín a su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Enoc; y edificó una ciudad, y llamó el nombre de la ciudad del nombre de su hijo, Enoc. 18 Y a Enoc le nació Irad, e Irad engendró a Mehujael, y Mehujael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lamec. 19 Y Lamec tomó para sí dos mujeres; el nombre de la una fue Ada, y el nombre de la otra, Zila. 20 Y Ada dio a luz a Jabal, el cual fue padre de los que habitan en tiendas y crían ganados. 21 Y el nombre de su hermano fue Jubal, el cual fue padre de todos los que tocan arpa y flauta.

22 Y Zila también dio a luz a Tubal-caín, artífice de toda obra de bronce y de hierro; y la hermana de Tubal-caín fue Naama.

23 Y dijo Lamec a sus mujeres:
Ada y Zila, oíd mi voz;
Mujeres de Lamec, escuchad mi dicho:
Que un varón mataré por mi herida,
Y un joven por mi golpe.

24 Si siete veces será vengado Caín,
Lamec en verdad setenta veces siete lo será.
25 Y conoció de nuevo Adán a su mujer, la cual dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Set:t Porque Dios (dijo ella) me ha sustituido otro hijo en lugar de Abel, a quien mató Caín. 26 Y a Set también le nació un hijo, y llamó su nombre Enós. Entonces los hombres comenzaron a invocar el nombre de Jehová.

GENESIS 4

Cain Murders Abel

1 Adamt and Eve had a son. Then Eve said, “I'll name him Cain because I gott him with the help of the [Lord].”

2 Later she had another son and named him Abel.
Abel became a sheep farmer, but Cain farmed the land. 3 One day, Cain gave part of his harvest to the [Lord], 4 t and Abel also gave an offering to the [Lord]. He killed the first-born lamb from one of his sheep and gave the [Lord] the best parts of it. The [Lord] was pleased with Abel and his offering,

5 but not with Cain and his offering. This made Cain so angry that he could not hide his feelings.

6 The [Lord] said to Cain:
What's wrong with you? Why do you look so angry?

7 If you had done the right thing, you would be smiling.t But you did the wrong thing, and now sin is waiting to attack you like a lion. Sin wants to destroy you, but don't let it!

8  t Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let's go for a walk.”t And when they were out in a field, Cain attacked and killed him.

9 Afterwards the [Lord] asked Cain, “Where is Abel?”
“How should I know?” he answered. “Am I supposed to look after my brother?”

10  t Then the [Lord] said:
Why have you done this terrible thing? You killed your own brother, and his blood flowed onto the ground. Now his blood is calling out for me to punish you. 11 And so, I'll put you under a curse. Because you killed Abel and made his blood run out on the ground, you will never be able to farm it again.

12 When you try to farm the land, it won't produce anything for you. From now on, you'll be without a home, and you'll spend the rest of your life wandering from place to place.
13 “This punishment is too hard!” Cain said.

14 “You're making me leave my home and live far from you.t I will have to wander about without a home, and just anyone could kill me.”
15 “No!”t the [Lord] answered. “Anyone who kills you will be punished seven times worse than I am punishing you.” So the [Lord] put a mark on Cain to warn everyone not to kill him.

16 But Cain had to go far from the [Lord] and live in the Land of Wandering, t which is east of Eden.

More and More People

18 Then Enoch had a son named Irad, who had a son named Mehujael, who had a son named Methushael, who had a son named Lamech.
19 Lamech married Adah, then Zillah.

20-21 Lamech and Adah had two sons, Jabal and Jubal. Their son Jabal was the first to live in tents and raise sheep and goats. Jubal was the first to play harps and flutes.

22 Lamech and Zillah had a son named Tubal Cain who made tools out of bronze and iron. They also had a daughter, whose name was Naamah.
23 One day, Lamech said to his two wives, “A young man wounded me, and I killed him.

24 Anyone who tries to get even with me will be punished ten times more than anyone who tries to get even with Cain.”
25 Adam and his wife had another son. They named him Seth, because they said, “God has givent us a son to take the place of Abel, who was killed by his brother Cain.”

26 Later, Seth had a son and named him Enosh.
About this time people started worshiping the [Lord].t
