Gud har talt gjennom Sønnen
1 Mange ganger og på mange måter har Gud i fordums tid talt til fedrene gjennom profetene. 2 Men nå, da de siste tider er kommet, har han talt til oss gjennom Sønnen. Ham har Gud innsatt som arving over alle ting, for ved ham skapte han verden. t
3 Han er en utstråling av Guds herlighet og bildet av hans vesen, og han bærer alt ved sitt mektige ord. Da han hadde fullført renselsen for våre synder, satte han seg ved Majestetens høyre hånd i det høye.tSønnen står over englene
4 Slik er han blitt større enn englene; for det navn han har fått, er så mye større enn deres. t
5 For til hvem av englene har Gud noen gang sagt:t
Du er min sønn,
jeg har født deg i dag?
Eller, som det også står:
Jeg vil være en far for ham,
og han skal være en sønn ¬for meg.
6 Når han så skal føre sin førstefødte inn i verden igjen, sier han:
Alle Guds engler ¬skal tilbe ham.t
7 Om englene har han sagt:
Han gjør sine engler til vinder,
sine tjenere til flammende ild. t
8 Men om Sønnen sier han:
Din trone, Gud, ¬står til evig tid,
rettferds stav er din kongsstav.t
9 Du har elsket rettferd ¬og hatet urett;
derfor, Gud, ¬har din Gud salvet deg
med gledens olje ¬framfor dine frender.
10 Og videre:
Du, Herre, i begynnelsen ¬grunnla du jorden,
og himmelen er et verk ¬av dine hender.t
11 De skal gå til grunne, ¬men du forblir.
De skal alle eldes ¬som en kledning;
12 du ruller dem sammen ¬som en kappe,
de skiftes ut som klær.
Men du er den samme,
dine år tar aldri slutt.
13 Til hvem av englene har han noen gang sagt:
Sett deg ved min høyre hånd
til jeg får lagt dine fiender
som skammel for dine føtter?t
14 Er ikke alle englene ånder i Guds tjeneste, som sendes ut for å være til hjelp for dem som skal få frelsen?t

Introduction: God Has Spoken Fully and Finally in His Son
1 After God spoke long agot in various portionst and in various wayst to our ancestorst through the prophets,2 in these last days he has spoken to us in a son,ts whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world.t3 The Son ist the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word,t and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.s
4 Thus he becamet so far better than the angels asts he has inherited a name superior to theirs.
The Son Is Superior to Angels
5 For to which of the angels did Godt ever say, “You are my son! Today I have fathered you”?ts And in another placet he says,t “I will be his father and he will be my son.”ts6 But when he again bringst his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all the angels of God worship him!”s7 And he sayss of the angels, “He makesthis angels spirits and his ministers a flame of fire,”s
8 but oft the Son he says,t
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,t
and a righteous sceptertis the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.
So God, your God, has anointed you over your companionsswith the oil of rejoicing.”s
10 And,
“You founded the earth in the beginning, Lord,s
and the heavens are the works of your hands.
11 They will perish, but you continue.
And they will all grow old like a garment,
12 and like a robe you will fold them up
and like a garmentsssthey will be changed,
but you are the same and your years will never run out.”s
13 But to which of the angelss has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?s
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to serve thoset who will inherit salvation?
