Gud har talt ved Sønnen

1 Mange ganger og på mange måter har Gud tidligere talt til fedrene gjennom profetene, s2 men nå, i disse siste dager, har han talt til oss gjennom Sønnen. Ham har han innsatt som arving til alle ting. Ved ham har han også skapt verden. s3 Han er avglansen av hans herlighet og avbildet av hans vesen, og han bærer alle ting ved sin krafts ord. Etter at han hadde fullført renselsen for våre synder, satte han seg ved Majestetens høyre hånd i det høye. ss

Sønnen og englene

4 Og han er blitt så meget større enn englene, som han har arvet et herligere navn fremfor dem. s5 For til hvem av englene har han noen gang sagt: Du er min sønn, jeg har født deg i dag! - og et annet sted: Jeg vil være far for ham, og han skal være sønn for meg? s6 Og når han så igjen fører den førstefødte inn i verden, sier han: Og alle Guds engler skal tilbe ham! s7 Om englene sier han: Han gjør sine engler til vinder og sine tjenere til flammende ild. s8 Men om Sønnen sier han: Din trone, Gud, står i all evighet, og rettferds stav er ditt rikes kongestav. s9 Du elsket rettferd og hatet lovløshet. Derfor, Gud, har din Gud salvet deg med gledens olje fremfor dine medbrødre. s10 Og: Du, Herre, la i begynnelsen jordens grunnvoll, og himlene er dine henders verk. s11 De skal gå til grunne, men du forblir. De skal alle eldes som et klesplagg, s12 som en kappe skal du rulle dem sammen, som et klesplagg skal de skiftes. Men du er den samme, og dine år tar aldri slutt. 13 Men til hvem av englene har han noen gang sagt: Sett deg ved min høyre hånd, til jeg får lagt dine fiender til skammel for dine føtter! s14 Er de ikke alle tjenende ånder, som sendes ut til tjeneste for deres skyld som skal arve frelse? s

Introduction: God Has Spoken Fully and Finally in His Son

1 After God spoke long agot in various portionst and in various wayst to our ancestorst through the prophets,2 in these last days he has spoken to us in a son,ts whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world.t3 The Son ist the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word,t and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.s

4 Thus he becamet so far better than the angels asts he has inherited a name superior to theirs.

The Son Is Superior to Angels

5 For to which of the angels did Godt ever say, “You are my son! Today I have fathered you”?ts And in another placet he says,t “I will be his father and he will be my son.”ts6 But when he again bringst his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all the angels of God worship him!”s7 And he sayss of the angels, “He makesthis angels spirits and his ministers a flame of fire,”s

8 but oft the Son he says,t
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,t
and a righteous sceptertis the scepter of your kingdom.

9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.
So God, your God, has anointed you over your companionsswith the oil of rejoicing.”s

10 And,
“You founded the earth in the beginning, Lord,s
and the heavens are the works of your hands.

11 They will perish, but you continue.
And they will all grow old like a garment,

12 and like a robe you will fold them up
and like a garmentsssthey will be changed,
but you are the same and your years will never run out.”s
13 But to which of the angelss has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?s

14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to serve thoset who will inherit salvation?
