Ineficacia de la ley antigua

1 Porque la ley de Moisés era solamente una sombra de los bienes que habían de venir, y no su presencia verdadera. Por eso la ley nunca puede hacer perfectos a quienes cada año se acercan a Dios para ofrecerle los mismos sacrificios.2 Pues si la ley realmente pudiera purificarlos del pecado, ya no se sentirían culpables, y dejarían de ofrecer sacrificios.3 Pero estos sacrificios sirven más bien para hacerles recordar sus pecados cada año.4 Porque la sangre de los toros y de los chivos no puede quitar los pecados.

El sacrificio de Cristo

5 Por eso Cristo, al entrar en el mundo, dijo a Dios:

«No quieres sacrificio ni ofrendas,
sino que me has dado un cuerpo.6 No te agradan los holocaustos ni las ofrendas para quitar el pecado.7 Entonces dije: “Aquí estoy, tal como está escrito de mí en el libro,
para hacer tu voluntad, oh Dios.”»8 En primer lugar, dice que Dios no quiere ni le agradan sacrificios ni ofrendas de animales, ni holocaustos para quitar el pecado, a pesar de que son cosas que la ley manda ofrecer.9 Y después añade: «Aquí vengo para hacer tu voluntad.» Es decir, que quita aquellos sacrificios antiguos y pone en su lugar uno nuevo.10 Dios nos ha consagrado porque Jesucristo hizo la voluntad de Dios al ofrecer su propio cuerpo en sacrificio una sola vez y para siempre.11 Todo sacerdote judío oficia cada día y sigue ofreciendo muchas veces los mismos sacrificios, aunque éstos nunca pueden quitar los pecados.12 Pero Jesucristo ofreció por los pecados un solo sacrificio para siempre, y luego se sentó a la derecha de Dios.13 Allí está esperando hasta que Dios haga de sus enemigos el estrado de sus pies,14 porque por medio de una sola ofrenda hizo perfectos para siempre a los que han sido consagrados a Dios.15 Y el Espíritu Santo nos lo confirma, al decir:16 «La alianza que haré con ellos
después de aquellos días,
será ésta, dice el Señor:
Pondré mis leyes en su corazón
y las escribiré en su mente.17 Y no me acordaré más de sus pecados y maldades.»18 Así pues, cuando los pecados han sido perdonados, ya no hay necesidad de más ofrendas por el pecado.

Exhortación a la fidelidad

19 Hermanos, ahora podemos entrar con toda libertad en el santuario gracias a la sangre de Jesús,20 siguiendo el nuevo camino de vida que él nos abrió a través del velo, es decir, a través de su propio cuerpo.21 Tenemos un gran sacerdote al frente de la casa de Dios.22 Por eso, acerquémonos a Dios con corazón sincero y con una fe completamente segura, limpios nuestros corazones de mala conciencia y lavados nuestros cuerpos con agua pura.23 Mantengámonos firmes, sin dudar, en la esperanza de la fe que profesamos, porque Dios cumplirá la promesa que nos ha hecho.24 Busquemos la manera de ayudarnos unos a otros a tener más amor y a hacer el bien.25 No dejemos de asistir a nuestras reuniones, como hacen algunos, sino animémonos unos a otros; y tanto más cuanto que vemos que el día del Señor se acerca.26 Porque si seguimos pecando intencionalmente después de haber conocido la verdad, ya no queda más sacrificio por los pecados;27 solamente nos queda la terrible amenaza del juicio y del fuego ardiente que destruirá a los enemigos de Dios.28 Cuando alguien desobedece la ley de Moisés, si hay dos o tres testigos que declaren contra él, se le condena a muerte sin compasión.29 Pues ¿no creen ustedes que mucho mayor castigo merecen los que pisotean al Hijo de Dios y desprecian su sangre, los que insultan al Espíritu del Dios que los ama? Esa sangre es la que confirma la alianza, y con ella han sido ellos consagrados.30 Sabemos que el Señor ha dicho: «A mí me corresponde hacer justicia; yo pagaré.» Y ha dicho también: «El Señor juzgará a su pueblo.»31 ¡Terrible cosa es caer en las manos del Dios viviente!32 Pero recuerden ustedes los tiempos pasados, cuando acababan ustedes de recibir la luz y soportaron con fortaleza los sufrimientos de una gran lucha.33 Algunos de ustedes fueron insultados y maltratados públicamente, y otros se unieron en el sufrimiento con los que fueron tratados así.34 Ustedes tuvieron compasión de los que estaban en la cárcel, y hasta con alegría se dejaron quitar lo que poseían, sabiendo que en el cielo tienen algo que es mucho mejor y que permanece para siempre.35 No pierdan, pues, su confianza, porque ella les traerá una gran recompensa.36 Ustedes necesitan tener fortaleza en el sufrimiento, para hacer la voluntad de Dios y recibir así lo que él ha prometido.37 Pues la Escritura dice:

«Pronto, muy pronto,
vendrá el que tiene que venir.
No tardará.38 Mi justo por la fe vivirá;
pero si se vuelve atrás,
no estaré contento de él.»39 Y nosotros no somos de los que se vuelven atrás y van a su condenación, sino de los que alcanzan la salvación porque tienen fe.

Hebrews 10

1 For the law having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh.2 Else would they not have ceased to be offered? because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins.3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance made of sins year by year.4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body didst thou prepare for me;

6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hadst no pleasure:

7 Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me) To do thy will, O God.

8 Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law),9 then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.10 By which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.11 And every priest indeed standeth day by day ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, the which can never take away sins:12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;13 henceforth expecting till his enemies be made the footstool of his feet.14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.15 And the Holy Spirit also beareth witness to us; for after he hath said,

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord: I will put my laws on their heart, And upon their mind also will I write them; then saith he,

17 And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;21 and having a great priest over the house of God;22 let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience: and having our body washed with pure water,23 let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it waver not; for he is faithful that promised:24 and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works;25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh.26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins,27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries.28 A man that hath set at nought Moses law dieth without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses:29 of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?30 For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were enlightened, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings;33 partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used.34 For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of you possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one.35 Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward.36 For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

37 For yet a very little while, He that cometh shall come, and shall not tarry.

38 But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.

39 But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul.
