Aux Hébreux 10
1 tLa loi, en effet, possède une ombre des biens à venir et non pas l’image même de ces choses ; c’est pourquoi elle ne peut jamais, par les mêmes sacrifices qu’on présente perpétuellement, année après année, porter à leur accomplissement ceux qui s’en approchent. 2 tSinon, n’aurait-on pas cessé d’en présenter, puisque ceux qui prennent part à ce culte auraient été purifiés une fois pour toutes et n’auraient plus eu aucune conscience des péchés ? 3 tAu contraire, par ces sacrifices, on rappelle année après année le souvenir des péchés.
4 tCar il est impossible que du sang de taureaux et de boucs ôte les péchés.
5 tC’est pourquoi, en entrant dans le monde, il dit :
Tu n’as voulu ni sacrifice, ni offrande,
mais tu m’as formé un corps ;
6 t tu n’as agréé ni holocaustes, ni sacrifices pour le péché.
7 t Alors j’ai dit : Je viens
– dans le livre-rouleau c’est écrit à mon sujet –
pour faire, ô Dieu, ta volonté.
8 tIl dit d’abord :
Tu n’as voulu et tu n’as agréé
ni sacrifices, ni offrandes, niholocaustes, ni sacrifices pour le péché
qui pourtant sont offerts selon la loi. 9 tPuis il dit :Je viens pour faire ta volonté. Il supprime donc le premier pour établir le second.
10 tC’est en vertu de cette volonté que nous sommes consacrés par l’offrande du corps de Jésus-Christ, une fois pour toutes.
11 tTout prêtre se tient à son poste chaque jour pour faire son service et offrir maintes fois les mêmes sacrifices, qui ne peuvent jamais ôter les péchés. 12 tMais lui, après avoir présenté un seul sacrifice pour les péchés, il s’est assis pour rester à perpétuité à la droite de Dieu, 13 tet il attend désormais que ses ennemis lui soient donnés pour marchepied. 14 tPar une seule offrande, en effet, il a porté à leur accomplissement, à perpétuité, ceux qui sont consacrés.
15 tC’est ce que l’Esprit saint nous atteste également. Car après avoir dit :
16 t Voici l’alliance que j’établirai avec eux
après ces jours-là, dit le Seigneur :
je mettrai mes lois dans leur cœur
et je les inscrirai dans leur intelligence ;
17 t je ne me souviendrai plus jamais de leurs péchés ni de leurs désordres.
18 tOr là où il y a pardon des péchés, il n’y a plus d’offrande pour le péché.Appel à la persévérance
19 tAinsi donc, frères, nous avons l’assurance d’un libre accès au sanctuaire par le sang de Jésus, 20 taccès qu’il a inauguré pour nous comme un chemin nouveau et vivant au travers du voile, c’est-à-dire de sa chair, 21 tet nous avons un grand prêtre institué sur la maison de Dieu. 22 tApprochons-nous donc d’un cœur sincère, avec une pleine foi, le cœur purifié d’une mauvaise conscience et le corps lavé d’une eau pure. 23 tContinuons à reconnaître publiquement notre espérance, sans fléchir, car celui qui a fait la promesse est digne de confiance. 24 tVeillons les uns sur les autres pour nous inciter à l’amour et aux belles œuvres.
25 tN’abandonnons pas notre assemblée, comme quelques-uns en ont coutume, mais encourageons-nous mutuellement, et cela d’autant plus que vous voyez le jour s’approcher.
26 tEn effet, si nous péchons volontairement après avoir reçu la connaissance de la vérité, il ne reste plus de sacrifice pour les péchés, 27 tmais une attente terrifiante du jugement, l’ardeur du feu qui va dévorer les rebelles. 28 tSi quelqu’un a violé la loi de Moïse,il est mis à mort sans pitié,sur la déposition de deux ou trois témoins. 29 tCombien pire, ne le pensez-vous pas, sera le châtiment mérité par celui qui aura piétiné le Fils de Dieu, qui aura tenu pour profane le sang de l’alliance par lequel il a été consacré, qui aura outragé l’Esprit de la grâce !
30 tCar nous connaissons celui qui a dit :
C’est moi qui fais justice ! C’est moi qui paierai de retour !
Et encore :
Le Seigneur jugera son peuple.
31 tIl est terrible de tomber aux mains du Dieu vivant.
32 tSouvenez-vous plutôt de ces premiers jours où, après avoir été éclairés, vous avez soutenu un grand et douloureux combat : 33 ttantôt vous étiez livrés en spectacle, exposés aux insultes et aux détresses, tantôt vous vous rendiez solidaires de ceux qui subissaient pareil traitement. 34 tEn effet, vous avez été sensibles au sort des prisonniers, et vous avez accepté avec joie qu’on vous arrache vos biens, sachant que vous aviez des possessions supérieures, qui demeurent. 35 tN’abandonnez donc pas votre assurance, qui comporte une grande récompense !
36 tVous avez en effet besoin de persévérance, pour qu’après avoir fait la volonté de Dieu vous obteniez ce qui a été promis.
37 tCar encoreun peu – bien peu ! –
et celuiqui doit venir viendra : il ne tardera pas.
38 t Or mon juste vivra en vertu de la foi.
Maiss’il se retire, mon âme ne prend pas plaisir en lui.
39 tQuant à nous, nous ne sommes pas de ceux qui se retirent pour se perdre, mais de ceux qui ont la foi pour sauvegarder l’âme.
Hebrews 10
1 For the law having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh.2 Else would they not have ceased to be offered? because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins.3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance made of sins year by year.4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body didst thou prepare for me;
6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hadst no pleasure:
7 Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me) To do thy will, O God.
8 Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law),9 then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.10 By which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.11 And every priest indeed standeth day by day ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, the which can never take away sins:12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;13 henceforth expecting till his enemies be made the footstool of his feet.14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.15 And the Holy Spirit also beareth witness to us; for after he hath said,
16 This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord: I will put my laws on their heart, And upon their mind also will I write them; then saith he,
17 And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;21 and having a great priest over the house of God;22 let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience: and having our body washed with pure water,23 let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it waver not; for he is faithful that promised:24 and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works;25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh.26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins,27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries.28 A man that hath set at nought Moses law dieth without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses:29 of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?30 For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were enlightened, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings;33 partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used.34 For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of you possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one.35 Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward.36 For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.
37 For yet a very little while, He that cometh shall come, and shall not tarry.
38 But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul.
