El sacrificio de Cristo, una vez y para siempre

1  El sistema antiguo bajo la ley de Moisés era sólo una sombra —un tenue anticipo de las cosas buenas por venir— no las cosas buenas en sí mismas. Bajo aquel sistema se repetían los sacrificios una y otra vez, año tras año, pero nunca pudieron limpiar por completo a quienes venían a adorar. 2 Si los sacrificios hubieran podido limpiar por completo, entonces habrían dejado de ofrecerlos, porque los adoradores se habrían purificado una sola vez y para siempre, y habrían desaparecido los sentimientos de culpa.

3 Pero en realidad, esos sacrificios les recordaban sus pecados año tras año. 4 Pues no es posible que la sangre de los toros y las cabras quite los pecados.

5 Por eso, cuando Cristot vino al mundo, le dijo a Dios:
«Tú no quisiste sacrificios de animales ni ofrendas por el pecado.
Pero me has dado un cuerpo para ofrecer.

6 No te agradaron las ofrendas quemadas
ni otras ofrendas por el pecado.

7 Luego dije: “Aquí estoy, oh Dios, he venido a hacer tu voluntad
como está escrito acerca de mí en las Escrituras”»t.

8 Primero, Cristo dijo: «No quisiste sacrificios de animales ni ofrendas por el pecado; ni ofrendas quemadas ni otras ofrendas por el pecado. Todas esas ofrendas tampoco te agradaron» (aun cuando la ley de Moisés las exige). 9 Luego dijo: «Aquí estoy, he venido a hacer tu voluntad». Él anula el primer pacto para que el segundo entre en vigencia. 10 Pues la voluntad de Dios fue que el sacrificio del cuerpo de Jesucristo nos hiciera santos, una vez y para siempre.

11 Bajo el antiguo pacto, el sacerdote oficia de pie delante del altar día tras día, ofreciendo los mismos sacrificios una y otra vez, los cuales nunca pueden quitar los pecados; 12 pero nuestro Sumo Sacerdote se ofreció a sí mismo a Dios como un solo sacrificio por los pecados, válido para siempre. Luego se sentó en el lugar de honor, a la derecha de Dios. 13 Allí espera hasta que sus enemigos sean humillados y puestos por debajo de sus pies. 14 Pues mediante esa única ofrenda, él perfeccionó para siempre a los que está haciendo santos.

15 Y el Espíritu Santo también da testimonio de que es verdad, pues dice:

16 «Este es el nuevo pacto que haré
con mi pueblo en aquel díat —dice el SEÑOR—:
Pondré mis leyes en su corazón
y las escribiré en su mente»t.

17 Después dice:
«Nunca más me acordaré
de sus pecados y sus transgresiones»t.

18 Y cuando los pecados han sido perdonados, ya no hace falta ofrecer más sacrificios.

Un llamado a permanecer firmes

19 Así que, amados hermanos, podemos entrar con valentía en el Lugar Santísimo del cielo por causa de la sangre de Jesús. 20 Por su muerte,t Jesús abrió un nuevo camino —un camino que da vida— a través de la cortina al Lugar Santísimo. 21 Ya que tenemos un gran Sumo Sacerdote que gobierna la casa de Dios, 22 entremos directamente a la presencia de Dios con corazón sincero y con plena confianza en él. Pues nuestra conciencia culpable ha sido rociada con la sangre de Cristo a fin de purificarnos, y nuestro cuerpo ha sido lavado con agua pura.

23 Mantengámonos firmes sin titubear en la esperanza que afirmamos, porque se puede confiar en que Dios cumplirá su promesa. 24 Pensemos en maneras de motivarnos unos a otros a realizar actos de amor y buenas acciones. 25 Y no dejemos de congregarnos, como lo hacen algunos, sino animémonos unos a otros, sobre todo ahora que el día de su regreso se acerca.

26 Queridos amigos, si seguimos pecando a propósito después de haber recibido el conocimiento de la verdad, ya no queda ningún sacrificio que cubra esos pecados. 27 Sólo queda la terrible expectativa del juicio de Dios y el fuego violento que consumirá a sus enemigos. 28 Pues todo el que rehusaba obedecer la ley de Moisés era ejecutado sin compasión por el testimonio de dos o tres testigos. 29 Piensen, pues, cuánto mayor será el castigo para quienes han pisoteado al Hijo de Dios y han considerado la sangre del pacto —la cual nos hizo santos— como si fuera algo vulgar e inmundo, y han insultado y despreciado al Espíritu Santo que nos trae la misericordia de Dios.

30 Pues conocemos al que dijo:
«Yo tomaré venganza.
Yo les pagaré lo que se merecen»t.
También dijo:
«El SEÑOR juzgará a su propio pueblo»t.

31 ¡Es algo aterrador caer en manos del Dios vivo!

32 Acuérdense de los primeros tiempos, cuando recién aprendían acerca de Cristo.t Recuerden cómo permanecieron fieles aunque tuvieron que soportar terrible sufrimiento. 33 Algunas veces los ponían en ridículo públicamente y los golpeaban, otras veces ustedes ayudaban a los que pasaban por lo mismo. 34 Sufrieron junto con los que fueron metidos en la cárcel y, cuando a ustedes les quitaron todos sus bienes, lo aceptaron con alegría. Sabían que en el futuro les esperaban cosas mejores, que durarán para siempre.

35 Por lo tanto, no desechen la firme confianza que tienen en el Señor. ¡Tengan presente la gran recompensa que les traerá! 36 Perseverar con paciencia es lo que necesitan ahora para seguir haciendo la voluntad de Dios. Entonces recibirán todo lo que él ha prometido.

37 «Pues, dentro de muy poco tiempo,
aquél que viene vendrá sin demorarse.

38 Mis justos vivirán por la fe.t
Pero no me agradará aquél que se aparte de mí»t.

39 Pero nosotros no somos de los que se apartan de Dios hacia su propia destrucción. Somos los fieles, y nuestras almas serán salvas.

HEBREWS 10

1 The Law of Moses is like a shadow of the good things to come. This shadow isn't the good things themselves, because it cannot free people from sin by the sacrifices offered year after year. 2 If there were worshipers who already have their sins washed away and their consciences made clear, there would not be any need to go on offering sacrifices.

3-4 But the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins. It only reminds people of their sins from one year to the next.

5  t When Christ came into the world, he said to God,
“Sacrifices and offerings
are not what you want,
but you have given me
my body.

6 No, you are not pleased
with animal sacrifices
and offerings for sin.”

7 Then Christ said,
“And so, my God,
I have come to do
what you want,
as the Scriptures say.”
8 The Law teaches that offerings and sacrifices must be made because of sin. But why did Christ mention these things and say that God did not want them? 9 Well, it was to do away with offerings and sacrifices and to replace them. This is what he meant by saying to God, “I have come to do what you want.”

10 So we are made holy because Christ obeyed God and offered himself once for all.
11  t The priests do their work each day, and they keep on offering sacrifices that can never take away sins. 12 t But Christ offered himself as a sacrifice that is good forever. Now he is sitting at God's right side, t 13 and he will stay there until his enemies are put under his power.

14 By his one sacrifice he has forever set free from sin the people he brings to God.

15 The Holy Spirit also speaks of this by telling us that the Lord said,

16  t “When the time comes,
I will make an agreement
with them.
I will write my laws
on their minds and hearts.

17  t Then I will forget
about their sins
and no longer remember
their evil deeds.”

18 When sins are forgiven, there is no more need to offer sacrifices.

Encouragement and Warning

20 by a new way that leads to life! And this way takes us through the curtain that is Christ himself.
21 We have a great high priest who is in charge of God's house. 22 t So let's come near God with pure hearts and a confidence that comes from having faith. Let's keep our hearts pure, our consciences free from evil, and our bodies washed with clean water. 23 We must hold tightly to the hope we say is ours. After all, we can trust the one who made the agreement with us. 24 We should keep on encouraging each other to be thoughtful and to do helpful things.

25 Some people have given up the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord's coming is getting closer.
26 No sacrifices can be made for people who decide to sin after they find out about the truth. 27 t They are God's enemies, and all they can look forward to is a terrible judgment and a furious fire. 28 t If two or more witnesses accused someone of breaking the Law of Moses, that person could be put to death. 29 t But it is much worse to dishonor God's Son and to disgrace the blood of the promise that made us holy. And it is just as bad to insult the Holy Spirit, who shows us mercy. 30 t We know that God has said he will punish and take revenge. We also know that the Scriptures say the Lord will judge his people.

31 It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God!
32 Don't forget all the hard times you went through when you first received the light. 33 Sometimes you were abused and mistreated in public, and at other times you shared in the sufferings of others.

34 You were kind to people in jail. And you gladly let your possessions be taken away, because you knew you had something better, something that would last forever.
35 Keep on being brave! It will bring you great rewards. 36 Learn to be patient, so you will please God and be given what he has promised.

37 t As the Scriptures say,
“God is coming soon!
It won't be very long.

38 The people God accepts
will live because
of their faith.t
But he isn't pleased
with anyone
who turns back.”
39 We are not like those people who turn back and get destroyed. We will keep on having faith until we are saved.
