La ley antigua ya no sirve

1 La ley de Moisés era sólo una muestra de lo bueno que Dios nos iba a dar, y no lo que en verdad nos daría. Por eso, la ley nunca puede hacer perfectos a los que, cada año, van al santuario a ofrecer a Dios los mismos sacrificios de siempre.2 Si en verdad la ley pudiera quitarles el pecado, no se sentirían culpables y dejarían de ofrecer sacrificios a Dios.3 Pero sucede lo contrario. Cada año, cuando ofrecen esos sacrificios, lo único que logran es recordar sus pecados.

4 Porque la sangre de los toros y de los chivos que se sacrifican no puede quitar los pecados.

5-6 Por eso, cuando Cristo vino a este mundo, le dijo a Dios:

«Tú no pides sacrificios
a cambio de tu perdón;
por eso me has dado un cuerpo.

7 »Por eso te dije:
“Aquí me tienes,
para cumplir tu voluntad.
Así me lo enseña
la Ley de Moisés.”»

8 En primer lugar, este salmo dice que Dios no quiere, ni le gustan, los sacrificios y las ofrendas, ni los animales quemados sobre el altar, aunque la ley manda que sean presentados.9 Después de eso, el salmo dice que Cristo vino a cumplir la voluntad de Dios. Es decir, Cristo quitó aquellos sacrificios antiguos, y estableció uno nuevo.

10 Dios nos eligió porque Jesucristo obedeció sus órdenes al morir en la cruz, y ofreció su cuerpo como sacrificio una sola vez y para siempre.
11 Aunque los sacrificios de animales no quitan el pecado, los sacerdotes judíos siguen ofreciéndolos muchas veces todos los días.12 Pero Jesucristo le ofreció a Dios un solo sacrificio para siempre, y así nos perdonó nuestros pecados. Luego se sentó a la derecha del trono de Dios,13 y allí estará esperando, hasta que Dios derrote a sus enemigos.14 Porque, con un solo sacrificio, Jesucristo hizo que Dios hiciera perfectos a todos los que eligió para ser parte de su pueblo.

15 Así lo asegura el Espíritu Santo cuando dice:

16 «Por eso, éste será mi nuevo pacto
con el pueblo de Israel:
haré que mis enseñanzas
las aprendan de memoria,
y que sean la guía de su vida.

17 Y nunca más me acordaré
de sus pecados y maldades.»

18 Por lo tanto, si nuestros pecados han sido perdonados, ya no es necesario darle a Dios más ofrendas para que nos perdone.

Amistad con Dios

19 Hermanos, la sangre que Jesús derramó al morir nos permite ahora tener amistad con Dios, y entrar con toda libertad en el lugar más santo.20 Pues cuando Jesús murió, abrió la cortina que nos impedía el paso. Pero ahora Jesús está vivo, y por medio de él podemos acercarnos a Dios de un modo nuevo y distinto.21 Él es nuestro gran sacerdote, encargado del santuario que está en el cielo.22 Por eso, mantengamos una amistad sincera con Dios, teniendo la plena seguridad de que podemos confiar en él. Porque Cristo nos dejó limpios de pecado, como si nos hubiera lavado con agua pura, y ya estamos libres de culpa.23 Sigamos confiando en que Dios nos salvará. No lo dudemos ni un instante, porque él cumplirá lo que prometió.24 Tratemos de ayudarnos unos a otros, y de amarnos y hacer lo bueno.

25 No dejemos de reunirnos, como hacen algunos. Al contrario, animémonos cada vez más a seguir confiando en Dios, y más aún cuando ya vemos que se acerca el día en que el Señor juzgará a todo el mundo.
26 Si seguimos pecando después de haber conocido la verdadera enseñanza de Dios, ningún sacrificio podrá hacer que Dios nos perdone.

27 No nos quedaría más remedio que esperar, con un miedo terrible, el juicio final, que es cuando los enemigos de Dios serán destruidos con fuego ardiente.
28 Si en un juicio dos testigos afirman que alguien ha desobedecido la ley de Moisés, los jueces no le tienen compasión a esa persona y ordenan su muerte.29 ¡Imagínense entonces el terrible castigo que recibirán los que desprecian al Hijo de Dios, y los que dicen que su muerte no sirve para nada! Los que hacen eso insultan al Espíritu de Dios, que los ama, y menosprecian la muerte de Cristo, es decir, el nuevo pacto por medio del cual Dios les perdona sus pecados.30 Además, como todos sabemos, Dios dijo que él se vengará de sus enemigos, y que los castigará por todo lo malo que han hecho. También dijo que juzgará a su pueblo.

31 ¡Que terrible debe ser que el Dios de la vida tenga que castigarnos!
32 Recuerden todas las dificultades y los sufrimientos por los que ustedes pasaron al principio, cuando aceptaron la buena noticia. A pesar de eso, nunca dejaron de confiar.33 A muchos de ustedes sus enemigos los insultaron y los maltrataron delante de la gente, y en otras ocasiones ustedes sufrieron con quienes eran tratados así.

34 También tuvieron ustedes compasión de los que estaban en la cárcel, y con alegría dejaron que las autoridades les quitaran sus pertenencias, porque sabían que en el cielo tienen algo mucho mejor y más duradero.
35 Por eso, no dejen de confiar en Dios, porque sólo así recibirán un gran premio.36 Sean fuertes, y por ningún motivo dejen de confiar en él cuando estén sufriendo, para que así puedan hacer lo que Dios quiere y reciban lo que él les ha prometido.

37 Pues Dios dice en la Biblia:

«Muy pronto llegará
el que tiene que venir.
¡Ya no tarda!

38 »Los que me son fieles en todo
y confían en mí
vivirán para siempre.

Pero si dejan de serme fieles,
no estaré contento con ellos.»

39 Gracias a Dios, nosotros no somos de los que dejan de ser fieles y acaban siendo castigados, sino que somos de los que reciben la salvación por confiar en Dios.

Hebrews 10

1 For the law having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh.2 Else would they not have ceased to be offered? because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins.3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance made of sins year by year.4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body didst thou prepare for me;

6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hadst no pleasure:

7 Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me) To do thy will, O God.

8 Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law),9 then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.10 By which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.11 And every priest indeed standeth day by day ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, the which can never take away sins:12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;13 henceforth expecting till his enemies be made the footstool of his feet.14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.15 And the Holy Spirit also beareth witness to us; for after he hath said,

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord: I will put my laws on their heart, And upon their mind also will I write them; then saith he,

17 And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;21 and having a great priest over the house of God;22 let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience: and having our body washed with pure water,23 let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it waver not; for he is faithful that promised:24 and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works;25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh.26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins,27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries.28 A man that hath set at nought Moses law dieth without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses:29 of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?30 For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were enlightened, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings;33 partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used.34 For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of you possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one.35 Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward.36 For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

37 For yet a very little while, He that cometh shall come, and shall not tarry.

38 But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.

39 But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul.
