Hebreërs 12

Julle moet aanhou om na Jesus te kyk wanneer julle swaarkry

1 Ons het ’n groot klomp tgetuies rondom ons, en daarom moet ons alles los wat ons kan keer om te doen wat ons moet doen, ja, ons moet ook die sonde los wat so maklik vir ons kan vashou. Daarom moet ons ook aanhou om te glo soos iemand wat aanhou om in ’n resies te hardloop wat hy moet klaarmaak. 2 Ons moet dit doen terwyl ons aanhou om te kyk na Jesus, want dit is Hý wat ons van die begin af laat glo het en dit is Hý wat ons tot die einde laat glo. Jesus het geweet dat Hy later weer bly sou wees, en daarom het Hy gedink die tskande van die tkruis maak nie saak nie. Hy het aangehou om swaar te kry totdat Hy aan die kruis gesterf het. Daarom sit Hy nou op die belangrikste plek by die ttroon van God.

3 Julle moet goed onthou dat Jesus geduldig was toe die sondaars slegte dinge teen Hom gesê en gedoen het. Julle moet aan Jesus dink sodat julle nie moeg en moedeloos word nie.
4 Julle probeer hard om nie sonde te doen nie, maar julle het nog nie so hard teen die sonde geveg dat mense vir julle wil doodmaak nie.

5 Het julle vergeet dat die Here vir julle tbemoedig het omdat julle sy kinders is? Hy het gesê:
tMy seun, die dinge wat die Here
vir jou leer,
moet belangrik wees vir jou,
jy moenie moedeloos word
wanneer Hy jou straf nie,

6 want Hy leer vir jou omdat Hy
lief is vir jou,
Hy straf elke seun
wat Hy aanneem.
7 Julle kry swaar sodat julle kan leer, daarom moet julle aanhou glo, want dit is Gód wat julle laat swaarkry omdat julle sy kinders is. Want elke pa leer vir sy kind. 8 God leer vir al sy kinders so. As Hy nie vir julle so kan leer nie, dan is julle tbuite-egtelike kinders, julle is dan nie God se ware kinders nie. 9 Ek wil nog iets sê: Ons pa’s was mense op die aarde, hulle het vir ons geleer, en ons het hulle gerespekteer. Maar ons sal baie meer moet luister na die Vader in die hemel, Hy wat vir almal die lewe gee. As ons luister, dan sal ons ook lewe. 10 Want ons pa’s het ons vir ’n kort rukkie geleer soos hulle gedink het dit is goed. Maar ons hemelse Vader leer vir ons hier op die aarde omdat dit goed is vir ons en omdat Hy wil hê ons moet tgewyd wees, ons moet theilig wees, soos Hy heilig is.

11 En elke maal wanneer Hy vir ons leer, dan voel dit vir ons soos iets om oor te huil en nie soos iets om oor bly te wees nie. Maar God het vir ons so geleer en ge-oefen dat ons later sal doen wat Hy wil hê en vrede sal maak.
12 Julle is moedeloos, maar julle moet sterk glo.

13 tEn julle moet aanhou om op die reguit pad te loop, dan sal die swak tgelowiges wat vir julle volg, opstaan en doen wat God sê, hulle sal nie meer wees soos mense wat lam is nie.

Julle moet luister wanneer God met julle praat

17 Want julle weet ook dat Esau later wou hê dat sy pa hom moet tseën, maar Isak kon toe nie vir hom seën nie. Esau het gehuil en gesoebat dat sy pa hom moet seën, maar dit was te laat, hy kon nie regmaak wat hy verkeerd gedoen het nie.
18 Julle het nie soos die Israeliete gekom by iets waaraan ’n mens kan raak nie, julle het nie gekom by ’n vuur wat brand, of by ’n donker wolk, of by ’n stormwind nie. 19 Julle het ook nie gekom waar ’n ttrompet geblaas het en waar Iemand gepraat het uit die hemel nie. Die mense wat dit gehoor het, het gesoebat dat God niks meer vir hulle moet sê nie, 20 want hulle kon nie doen wat God gesê het nie. Hy het gesê: “tAs ’n dier aan die berg raak, dan moet hulle hom doodgooi met klippe.” 21 Die dinge wat hulle gesien het, het hulle so bang gemaak dat Moses gesê het: “tEk bewe, ek is baie bang.” 22 Nee, julle het by Sionsberg gekom, julle het gekom by die stad van die God wat lewe, by Jerusalem wat in die hemel is. Julle het ook gekom by so baie tengele dat ’n mens hulle nie kan tel nie, julle het gekom by die fees waar almal bly is. 23 Julle het gekom by die vergadering van die mense wat soos God se oudste seuns is, hulle name is opgeskryf in die hemel. Julle het gekom by die tRegter wat die God van almal is, julle het gekom by die mense wat voorheen gelewe het en wat heeltemal geword het soos God wil hê hulle moet wees.

24 Julle het ook gekom by Jesus, die tMiddelaar van die tnuwe verbond, en julle het gekom by die bloed van Jesus wat gevloei het en wat vir ons ’n beter boodskap bring as die bloed van Abel.
25 Julle moet oppas, julle moenie ongehoorsaam wees aan Hom wat met julle praat nie. Want toe God daardie mense voorheen op die aarde gewaarsku het, wou hulle nie luister na Hom nie, en hulle kon nie wegvlug van Hom nie. Ja, dit is waar, God waarsku nou vir ons uit die hemel, en julle weet dat as ons nie wil luister na God nie, dan sal ons ook nie kan vlug nie, dit sal nog slegter gaan met ons as met daardie mense wat ook nie kon vlug nie. 26 In daardie tyd het God hard gepraat en sy stem het die aarde geskud, maar nou het Hy belowe: “tEk sal nog een maal die aarde skud en Ek sal ook die hemel skud.” 27 En hierdie woorde, “nog een maal”, sê duidelik dat God die dinge sal wegneem, die dinge wat Hy gemaak en geskud het, sodat net die dinge wat niemand kan skud nie, sal oorbly. 28 Dit is seker dat God ons wil laat kom daar waar Hy Koning is, en daarom moet ons dankie sê vir God. Ons is dankbaar, en daarom moet ons vir God dien soos Hy wil hê, en ons moet Hom teer en respekteer, 29 want tons God is ook soos ’n vuur wat alles verbrand.

Hebrews 12

1 A huge cloud of witnesses is all around us. So let us throw off everything that stands in our way. Let us throw off any sin that holds on to us so tightly. Let us keep on running the race marked out for us.
2 Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the author of faith. He also makes it perfect. He paid no attention to the shame of the cross. He suffered there because of the joy he was looking forward to. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 He put up with attacks from sinners. So think about him. Then you won't get tired. You won't lose hope.

God Trains His Children

4 You struggle against sin. But you have not yet fought to the point of spilling your blood.

5 You have forgotten that word of hope. It speaks to you as children. It says,
"My son, think of the Lord's training as important.
Do not lose hope when he corrects you.

6 The Lord trains those he loves.
He punishes everyone he accepts as a son." (Proverbs 3:11,12)
7 Put up with hard times. God uses them to train you. He is treating you as children. What children are not trained by their parents?8 God trains all of his children. But what if he doesn't train you? Then you are like children of people who weren't married to each other. You are not truly God's children.
9 Besides, we have all had human parents who trained us. We respected them for it. How much more should we be trained by the Father of our spirits and live!
10 Our parents trained us for a little while. They did what they thought was best. But God trains us for our good. He wants us to share in his holiness.
11 No training seems pleasant at the time. In fact, it seems painful. But later on it produces a harvest of godliness and peace. It does that for those who have been trained by it.
12 So lift your sagging arms. Strengthen your weak knees.13 "Make level paths for your feet to walk on." (Proverbs 4:26) Then those who have trouble walking won't be disabled. Instead, they will be healed.

A Warning Against Saying No to God

14 Try your best to live in peace with everyone. Try to be holy. Without holiness no one will see the Lord.
15 Be sure that no one misses God's grace. See to it that a bitter plant doesn't grow up. If it does, it will cause trouble. And it will pollute many people.16 See to it that no one commits sexual sins.
See to it that no one is godless like Esau. He sold the rights to what he would receive as the oldest son. He sold them for a single meal.17 As you know, after that he wanted to receive his father's blessing. But he was turned away. With tears he tried to get the blessing. But he couldn't get his father to change his mind.
18 You haven't come to a mountain that can be touched. You haven't come to a mountain that is burning with fire. You haven't come to darkness, gloom and storm.19 You haven't come to a blast from God's trumpet. You haven't come to a voice speaking to you. When people heard that voice long ago, they begged it not to say anything more to them.20 What God commanded was too much for them. He said, "If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be killed with stones." (Exodus 19:12,13)21 The sight was terrifying. Moses said, "I am trembling with fear." (Deuteronomy 9:19)
22 But you have come to Mount Zion. You have come to the Jerusalem in heaven. It is the city of the living God. You have come to a joyful gathering of angels. There are thousands and thousands of them.23 You have come to the church of God's people. God's first and only Son is over all things. God's people share in what belongs to his Son. Their names are written in heaven. You have come to God. He is the judge of all people.
You have come to the spirits of godly people who have been made perfect.24 You have come to Jesus. He is the go-between of a new covenant. You have come to the sprinkled blood. It promises better things than the blood of Abel.
25 Be sure that you don't say no to the One who speaks. People did not escape when they said no to the One who warned them on earth. And what if we turn away from the One who warns us from heaven? How much less will we escape!
26 At that time his voice shook the earth. But now he has promised, "Once more I will shake the earth. I will also shake the heavens." (Haggai 2:6)27 The words "once more" point out that what can be shaken can be taken away. I'm talking about created things. Then what can't be shaken will remain.
28 We are receiving a kingdom that can't be shaken. So let us be thankful. Then we can worship God in a way that pleases him. We will worship him with deep respect and wonder.29 Our "God is like a fire that burns everything up." (Deuteronomy 4:24)
