히브리서 12

주님의 훈련

1 그러므로 이렇게 구름 떼와 같이 수많은 증인이 우리를 둘러싸고 있으니, 우리도 갖가지 무거운 짐과 t얽매는 죄를 벗어버리고, 우리 앞에 놓인 달음질을 참으면서 달려갑시다. 2 믿음의 창시자요 완성자이신 예수를 바라봅시다. 그는 자기 앞에 놓여 있는 기쁨을 내다보고서, 부끄러움을 마음에 두지 않으시고, 십자가를 참으셨습니다. 그리하여 그는 하나님의 보좌 오른쪽에 앉으셨습니다. 3 자기에 대한 죄인들의 이러한 반항을 참아내신 분을 생각하십시오. 그리하면 여러분은 낙심하여 지치는 일이 없을 것입니다. 4 여러분은 죄와 맞서서 싸우지만, 아직 피를 흘리기까지 대항한 일은 없습니다. 5 또 여러분은, 하나님께서 여러분을 향하여 자녀에게 말하듯이 하신 이 권면을 잊었습니다. t“내 아들아, 주님의 징계를 가볍게 여기지 말고, 그에게 꾸지람을 들을 때에 낙심하지 말아라.

6 주님께서는 사랑하시는 사람을 징계하시고, 받아들이시는 아들마다 채찍질하신다.”

7 징계를 받을 때에 참아내십시오. 하나님께서는 자녀에게 대하시듯이 여러분에게 대하십니다. 아버지가 징계하지 않는 자녀가 어디에 있겠습니까? 8 모든 자녀가 받은 징계를 여러분이 받지 않는다고 하면, 여러분은 사생아이지, 참 자녀가 아닙니다. 9 우리가 육신의 아버지도 훈육자로 모시고 공경하거든, 하물며 영들의 아버지께 복종하고 살아야 한다는 것은 더욱더 당연한 일이 아니겠습니까? 10 육신의 아버지는 잠시 동안 자기들의 생각대로 우리를 징계하였지만, 하나님께서는 우리를 자기의 거룩하심에 참여하게 하시려고, 우리에게 유익이 되도록 징계하십니다. 11 무릇 징계는 어떤 것이든지 그 당시에는 즐거움이 아니라 괴로움으로 여겨지지만, 나중에는 이것으로 훈련받은 사람들에게 정의의 평화로운 열매를 맺게 합니다. 12 그러므로 여러분은 나른한 손과 힘 빠진 무릎을 일으켜 세우고, 13 t똑바로 걸으십시오. 그래서 절름거리는 다리로 하여금 삐지 않게 하고, 오히려 낫게 하십시오.

하나님의 은혜를 거역한 자들에게 주는 경고

14 모든 사람과 더불어 화평하게 지내고, 거룩하게 살기를 힘쓰십시오. 거룩해지지 않고서는, 아무도 주님을 뵙지 못할 것입니다. t 15 하나님의 은혜에서 떨어져 나가는 사람이 아무도 없도록 주의하십시오. 또 쓴 뿌리가 돋아나서 괴롭게 하고, 그것으로 많은 사람이 더러워지는 일이 없도록 주의하십시오. 16 또 음행하는 자나, 음식 한 그릇에 장자권을 팔아넘긴 에서와 같은 속된 사람이 생기지 않도록 주의하십시오. 17 여러분이 알다시피, 에서는 그 뒤에 축복을 상속받기를 원하였으나, 거절당하였습니다. 그는 눈물을 흘리면서 구하였건만, t회개할 기회를 얻지 못하였습니다. 18 여러분이 나아가서 이른 곳은 시내 산 같은 곳이 아닙니다. 곧 만져 볼 수 있고, 불이 타오르고, 흑암과 침침함이 뒤덮고, 폭풍이 일고, 19 나팔이 울리고, 무서운 말소리가 들리는 그러한 곳이 아닙니다. 그 말소리를 들은 사람들은 자기들에게 더 말씀하시지 않기를 간청하였습니다. 20 t“비록 짐승이라도 그 산에 닿으면, 돌로 쳐죽여야 한다” 하신 명령을 그들이 견디어내지 못했기 때문입니다. 21 그 광경이 얼마나 무서웠던지, 모세도 말하기를 t“나는 두려워서 떨린다” 하였습니다. 22 그러나 여러분이 나아가서 이른 곳은 시온 산, 곧 살아 계신 하나님의 도성인 하늘의 예루살렘입니다. 여러분은 축하 행사에 모인 수많은 천사들과 23 하늘에 등록된 장자들의 집회와 만민의 심판자이신 하나님과 완전하게 된 의인의 영들과 24 새 언약의 중재자이신 예수와 그가 뿌리신 피 앞에 나아왔습니다. 그 피는 아벨의 피보다 더 훌륭하게 말해 줍니다. 25 여러분은 말씀하시는 분을 거역하지 않도록 조심하십시오. 그 사람들이 땅에서 경고하는 사람을 거역하였을 때에, 그 벌을 피할 수 없었거든, 하물며 우리가 하늘로부터 경고하시는 분을 배척하면, 더욱더 피할 길이 없지 않겠습니까? 26 그 때에는 그의 음성이 땅을 뒤흔들었지만, 이번에는 그가 약속하시기를, t“내가 한 번 더, 땅뿐만 아니라 하늘까지도 흔들겠다” 하셨습니다. 27 이 ‘한 번 더’라는 말은 흔들리는 것들 곧 피조물들을 없애버리는 것을 뜻합니다. 그렇게 하는 것은 흔들리지 않는 것들이 남아 있게 하시려는 것입니다. 28 그러므로 우리는 흔들리지 않는 나라를 받으니, 감사를 드립시다. 그리하여, 경건함과 두려움으로 하나님이 기뻐하시도록 그를 섬깁시다. 29 t우리 하나님은 태워 없애는 불이십니다.

HEBREWS 12

A Large Crowd of Witnesses

1  t Such a large crowd of witnesses is all around us! So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won't let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us. 2 t We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete. He endured the shame of being nailed to a cross, because he knew later on he would be glad he did. Now he is seated at the right sidet of God's throne!

3 So keep your mind on Jesus, who put up with many insults from sinners. Then you won't get discouraged and give up.
4 None of you have yet been hurtt in your battle against sin.

5 t But you have forgotten that the Scriptures say to God's children,
“When the Lord punishes you,
don't make light of it,
and when he corrects you,
don't be discouraged.

6 The Lord corrects the people
he loves
and disciplines those
he calls his own.”
7 Be patient when you are being corrected! This is how God treats his children. Don't all parents correct their children? 8 God corrects all his children, and if he doesn't correct you, then you don't really belong to him.

9 Our earthly fathers correct us, and we still respect them. Isn't it even better to be given true life by letting our spiritual Father correct us?
10 Our human fathers correct us for a short time, and they do it as they think best. But God corrects us for our own good, because he wants us to be holy, as he is.

11 It is never fun to be corrected. In fact, at the time it is always painful. But if we learn to obey by being corrected, we will do right and live at peace.
12  t Now stand up straight! Stop your knees from shaking

13 t and walk a straight path. Then lame people will be healed, instead of getting worse.

Warning against Turning from God

14 Try to live at peace with everyone! Live a clean life. If you don't, you will never see the Lord. 15 t Make sure no one misses out on God's wonderful kindness. Don't let anyone become bitter and cause trouble for the rest of you. 16 t Watch out for immoral and ungodly people like Esau, who sold his future blessingt for only one meal.

17 t You know how he later wanted it back. But there was nothing he could do to change things, even though he begged his father and cried.
18  t You have not come to a place like Mount Sinait that can be seen and touched. There is no flaming fire or dark cloud or storm 19 or trumpet sound. The people of Israel heard a voice speak. But they begged it to stop, 20 t because they could not obey its commands. They were even told to kill any animal that touched the mountain.

21 The sight was so frightening that Moses said he shook with fear.
22 You have now come to Mount Zion and to the heavenly Jerusalem. This is the city of the living God, where thousands and thousands of angels have come to celebrate. 23 Here you will find all of God's dearest children, t whose names are written in heaven. And you will find God himself, who judges everyone. Here also are the spirits of those good people who have been made perfect.

24 t And Jesus is here! He is the one who makes God's new agreement with us, and his sprinkled blood says much better things than the blood of Abel.t
25  t Make sure you obey the one who speaks to you. The people did not escape, when they refused to obey the one who spoke to them at Mount Sinai. Do you think you can possibly escape, if you refuse to obey the one who speaks to you from heaven?

26 t When God spoke the first time, his voice shook only the earth. This time he has promised to shake the earth once again, and heaven too.
27 The words “once again” mean that these created things will someday be shaken and removed. Then what cannot be shaken will last. 28 We should be grateful we were given a kingdom that cannot be shaken. And in this kingdom we please God by worshiping him and by showing him great honor and respect. 29 t Our God is like a destructive fire!
