Hebreos 12

Fortaleza en medio del sufrimiento

1 Fijémonos entonces que nos rodean muchísimas personas que demostraron su fe. Corramos sin fallar la carrera que tenemos por delante. Quitemos de nuestra vida cualquier cosa que nos impida avanzar, especialmente el pecado que nos hace caer tan fácilmente.2 Fijemos nuestra mirada en Jesús, en quien la fe empieza y termina. En vez del gozo que podía haber tenido, sufrió la muerte en la cruz y aceptó la humillación como si no fuera nada. Después se sentó a la derecha del trono de Dios.

3 Si alguna vez se sienten desfallecidos y agobiados, piensen en Jesús, quien soportó pacientemente el maltrato de parte de los pecadores.
4 Ustedes han luchado contra el pecado, pero no hasta el punto de perder la vida.5 Son hijos de Dios, pero olvidaron lo que él les dice a sus hijos para animarlos:
«Hijo mío,
toma en serio la disciplina del Señor,
no te desanimes cuando el Señor te corrija.

6 El Señor disciplina a todo el que ama,
y castiga a todo al que acepta como su hijo».t
7 Entonces soporten esos sufrimientos como se acepta la disciplina de un padre, porque Dios lo hace como un padre que corrige a sus hijos.8 Si Dios no los disciplinara, significaría que ustedes no le importan. Cuando un padre no corrige a sus hijos es porque realmente no los considera sus hijos.9 Todos hemos tenido padres en la tierra que nos han disciplinado y nosotros los respetamos. Entonces es aun más importante someternos a nuestro Padre celestial para poder vivir.10 Nuestros padres en la tierra nos corrigieron por poco tiempo. Lo hicieron de la mejor manera que pudieron, pero Dios nos corrige para ayudarnos a ser santost como él.

11 No nos gusta cuando nos corrigen porque nos duele, pero luego de haber sido corregidos da buenos resultados. Entonces nos llenamos de paz y empezamos a vivir como debe ser.
12 Fortalézcanse nuevamente, porque se han debilitado.

13 Fíjense bien por dónde caminan para que su debilidad no los haga perder y así puedan salvarse.

Vida dedicada a Dios

14 Traten de vivir en paz con todo el mundo y tengan una vida libre de pecado. El que no tenga una vida dedicada a Dios, no podrá ver al Señor.15 Tengan cuidado de que ninguno de ustedes pierda el favort de Dios, ni sea como mala hierba, pues esto los puede perjudicar a todos.16 No cometan inmoralidades sexuales ni le falten al respeto a Dios. Eso fue lo que hizo Esaú cuando vendió los derechos que tenía como hijo mayor a cambio de una sola comida.

17 Ustedes ya saben que después trató de conseguir la bendición de su papá y, aunque la suplicó con lágrimas, él no se la dio pues ya no podía cambiar lo que había hecho.
18 t Ustedes han llegado a un nuevo lugar muy distinto del monte al que se acercó el pueblo de Israelt. No han llegado a un monte que se puede tocar y que echa fuego. No es un lugar tormentoso, tenebroso ni oscuro.19 No hay sonidos de trompeta ni esa voz que el pueblo oyó y rogó no volver a oír jamás.20 No soportaron la orden que se les dio: «Si alguien, incluso un animal, toca el monte, morirá a pedradas».t

21 Todo parecía tan terrible que Moisés dijo: «Estoy temblando de miedo».t
22 Ustedes han llegado a un lugar diferente que es el monte Siont, la ciudad del Dios viviente, la Jerusalént celestial, donde se reúnen millares de ángeles para celebrar, y23 también están reunidos los primogénitost de Dios, cuyos nombres están escritos en el cielo. Ustedes han llegado a donde está Dios, el juez de todos, y a donde están los espíritus que fueron aprobados y perfeccionados por él.

24 Están junto a Jesús, quien trajo el nuevo pactot de Dios a la gente. En este lugar está la sangre que purifica,t la que nos habla de algo mejor que la sangre de Abelt.
25 Asegúrense de no rechazar al que habla, pues los que se negaron a escucharlo cuando él les hizo la advertencia aquí en la tierra no escaparon del castigo. Mucho menos nosotros si no hacemos caso al que nos habla desde el cielo.26 En ese momento su voz hizo temblar la tierra. Ahora él promete: «Nuevamente haré temblar la tierra, pero también moveré el cielo».t

27 La palabra «nuevamente» nos demuestra con claridad que todo lo creado, lo que se puede hacer temblar será destruido y sólo permanecerá lo que no se puede mover.
28 Nosotros estamos recibiendo un reino que nadie puede hacer tambalear. Por eso seamos agradecidos y adoremos a Dios de la manera que a él le agrada. Hagámoslo con respeto y con temor,

29 porque nuestro Dios es como un fuego que puede destruirnos.

Hebrews 12

Jesus, the Example

1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

A Father's Discipline

4 You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,
"MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD,
NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM;

6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES,
AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES."7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

12 Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble,13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.

14 Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;16 that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.17 For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

Contrast of Sinai and Zion

18 For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind,19 and to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words which sound was such that those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.20 For they could not bear the command, "IF EVEN A BEAST TOUCHES THE MOUNTAIN, IT WILL BE STONED."21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, "I AM FULL OF FEAR and trembling."22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.

The Unshaken Kingdom

25 See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.26 And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, "YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN."27 This expression, "Yet once more," denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;29 for our God is a consuming fire.
