Hebreus 12

Devemos imitar o exemplo de Cristo

1 E quanto a nós, temos esta grande multidão de testemunhas ao nosso redor. Portanto, vamos pôr de lado tudo o que nos atrapalha, o pecado que nos amarra, e vamos correr com perseverança a corrida que está à nossa frente.2 Vamos fixar os nossos olhos em Jesus, que é a fonte da nossa fé e é quem a torna completa. Ele, em troca da alegria que lhe tinha sido oferecida, suportou a cruz, sem fazer caso da humilhação que sofreu. E agora Ele está sentado à direita do trono de Deus.

3 Portanto, pensem em Jesus, que suportou tão grande oposição dos pecadores contra si mesmo, para que assim vocês não fiquem nem cansados nem desanimados.

Deus é como um pai que castiga seus filhos

4 Na luta de vocês contra o pecado, vocês ainda não tiveram que combater até a morte.5 Será que vocês já se esqueceram das palavras de encorajamento que lhes foram dirigidas como a filhos? As Escriturast dizem:
"Meu filho, não despreze a correção que vem do Senhor,
nem fique desanimado quando você for reprovado por Ele;

6 pois o Senhor repreende a quem ama
e castiga todo aquele a quem Ele aceita como filho".t

7 Suportem o sofrimento como se fosse o castigo dado por um pai, porque o sofrimento de vocês mostra que Deus os está tratando como seus filhos. Será que existe algum filho que nunca foi corrigido por seu pai? Claro que não!8 Se vocês não forem disciplinados assim como todos os filhos de Deus o são, então vocês não são filhos verdadeiros, mas sim filhos ilegítimos.9 Além disso, todos nós tínhamos os nossos pais humanos, os quais nos disciplinavam e nós os respeitávamos. Assim, devemos obedecer muito mais ao Pai dos espíritos e, então, viveremos!10 Nossos pais nos disciplinaram por pouco tempo, da maneira que eles achavam que era melhor. Deus, porém, nos disciplina para o nosso bem, a fim de podermos participar da sua santidade.

11 De fato, toda disciplina no momento não parece ser motivo de alegria, mas de tristeza. Mais tarde, entretanto, depois de termos aprendido mediante a disciplina, temos uma vida de justiça e de paz.

Tenham cuidado com a maneira como vocês vivem

12 Portanto, restabeleçam as suas mãos cansadas, fortaleçam os seus joelhos fracos

13 e andem por caminhos retos. Dessa forma, aquele que é manco não terá mais fraqueza em seus pés, mas sim, ficará curado.
14 Esforcem-se para viver em paz com todos e ter uma vida santa; pois sem a santidade ninguém verá o Senhor.15 Tenham cuidado para que ninguém falhe em alcançar a graçat de Deus. Tenham cuidado para que ninguém se torne como uma planta amarga que cresce, causa danos, e prejudica a muitos.16 E tomem cuidado também para que ninguém seja sexualmente imoral ou não tenha respeito pelas coisas sagradas, como Esaú, que por um prato de comida vendeu os seus direitos de filho mais velho.

17 Depois, como vocês sabem, ele quis receber a bênção do pai. Mas foi rejeitado, pois não encontrou um modo de mudar o que ele havia feito, embora tivesse procurado fazer isso até com lágrimas.
18 Vocês não vieram para perto do monte que se podia tocar e que estava pegando fogo, assim como o povo de Israelt veio. Vocês não vieram para a escuridão ou para as trevas ou para a tempestade.19 Vocês também não vieram para o som da trombeta ou para o som de uma voz, pois todos os que ouviam o que a voz dizia imploravam para que ela não lhes falasse mais.20 Eles tinham feito isso pois não podiam mais suportar o que lhes era ordenado, isto é: "Todo aquele que tocar no monte deve ser apedrejado, mesmo que seja um animal"t.

21 Na verdade, o espetáculo era tão horrível que Moisés disse: "Estou tremendo de medo"t.
22 Mas vocês chegaram ao monte Sião e à cidade do Deus vivo, que é a Jerusalém celestial com seus milhares de anjos. Vocês vieram para a alegre23 reunião dos primogênitost de Deus, cujos nomes estão escritos no céu. Vocês vieram para Deus, o Juiz de todos, para os espíritos dos justos que foram aperfeiçoados,

24 para Jesus, que é o Mediadort da nova aliançat, e para o sangue que os purifica e promete coisas muito melhores que o sangue de Abelt.
25 Tenham cuidado e não se recusem a ouvir aquele que fala. As pessoas que se recusaram a ouvir as advertências de Deus aqui na terra, não escaparam. Por isso, muito menos escaparemos nós, se rejeitarmos as advertências que recebermos do céu.26 Naquele tempo a voz de Deus fez estremecer a terra; agora, porém, Ele promete, dizendo: "Ainda mais uma vez Eu farei estremecer não somente a terra, mas também o céu"t.

27 As palavras "ainda mais uma vez" mostram bem que as coisas criadas serão abaladas e destruídas, para que as que não podem ser abaladas continuem como estão.
28 Portanto, desde que estamos recebendo um reino que não pode ser abalado, devemos estar agradecidos e adorar a Deus da maneira que lhe seja agradável, com respeito e temor,

29 pois o nosso Deus é como um fogo destruidor.

Hebrews 12

Jesus, the Example

1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

A Father's Discipline

4 You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,
"MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD,
NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM;

6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES,
AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES."7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

12 Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble,13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.

14 Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;16 that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.17 For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

Contrast of Sinai and Zion

18 For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind,19 and to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words which sound was such that those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.20 For they could not bear the command, "IF EVEN A BEAST TOUCHES THE MOUNTAIN, IT WILL BE STONED."21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, "I AM FULL OF FEAR and trembling."22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.

The Unshaken Kingdom

25 See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.26 And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, "YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN."27 This expression, "Yet once more," denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;29 for our God is a consuming fire.
