Hebreërs 13

1 Julle moet in liefde lojaal bly teenoor mekaar soos broers dit doen.2 Wees gasvry, want dit het al gebeur dat mense hemelse wesens vriendelik ontvang het sonder om eens agter te kom wat hulle regtig was.3 Moenie die mense wat in die tronk is, vergeet nie. Dit moet vir julle wees asof julle self in die tronk is. Net so moet julle meegevoel hê met die mense wat sleg behandel word en swaarkry, asof dit julle self is met wie dit gebeur.
4 Mense wat getroud is, moet die huweliksband respekteer en mag nie rondslaap nie. God self sal afreken met mense wat rondslaap of seksueel verkeerde dinge doen.5 Wees tevrede met wat julle het en moenie heeltyd agter geld aanhardloop asof dit die belangrikste ding in julle lewe is nie. God het mos gesê: "Ek sal jou nooit alleen los nie en Ek sal jou nooit in die steek laat nie."6 Daarom kan ons met vertroue sê: "Die Here is die Een wat my help. Ek hoef vir niks bang te wees nie. Buitendien, wat kan 'n mens aan my doen?"
7 Moenie die geestelike leiers vergeet wat die boodskap van God aan julle vertel het nie. Kyk hoe hulle geleef het tot hulle dood is en vertrou dan op die Here net soos hulle op Hom vertrou het.
8 Jesus Christus bly immers dieselfde. Soos Hy gister was, is Hy vandag en sal Hy môre ook wees.
9  Moenie luister na allerhande verkeerde dinge wat jou op 'n dwaalspoor kan bring nie. Jou geestelike lewe kry krag uit die onverdiende goedheid van God; nie uit al die spesiale kosse en eetgebruike nie. Hierdie gebruike help 'n mens eintlik niks nie.10 Ons het mos 'n nuwe altaar. Die priesters van die ou ooreenkoms het nie die voorreg om saam met ons rondom die nuwe altaar fees te vier nie.
11 Volgens die ou ooreenkoms het die hoëpriester altyd die bloed in die Heiligste deel ingebring, terwyl die dooie diere buite die blyplek van die mense verbrand is.12 So is Jesus ook buite die stad dood, sodat Hy mense met sy bloed vir God aanvaarbaar kon maak.13 Laat ons dan na Jesus toe gaan daar buite die stad, al moet ons net so bespot en verag word soos Hy.14 Ons eintlike plek waar ons gaan bly, is mos nie op aarde nie, maar ons sien uit na die blyplek wat aan die kom is.15 Laat ons God daarom gedurig prys en mooi dinge oor Hom sê omdat Jesus dit vir ons moontlik maak. Dít moet mense doen wat openlik sê dat hulle aan God behoort.
16 Onthou ook om goed te wees vir ander mense. Gee ook vir hulle van dit wat jy het. God hou daarvan as ons so maak.
17  Luister wat julle geestelike leiers sê en doen wat hulle vra. Hulle moet julle geestelik oppas en moet vir God kan verduidelik hoe hulle dit gedoen het. Moenie dit vir hulle swaar maak nie, want dit sal julle niks in die sak bring nie. Luister liewer na hulle en maak dit vir hulle lekker om geestelike leiers te wees.
18 Bid vir ons. Niks pla ons nie, want ons probeer ons bes om altyd die regte pad te loop.19 Vra God veral of Hy my nie weer gou na julle toe sal laat kom nie.
20 God het ons Here Jesus uit die dood laat opstaan. Deur die bloed van hierdie Jesus het daar 'n nuwe ooreenkoms tussen God en ons tot stand gekom. Die ooreenkoms sal vir ewig en altyd bly staan. Hierdie Jesus is ook die groot Herder wat na sy skape kyk.21 Mag hierdie God van vrede julle alles gee wat julle nodig het sodat julle kan doen wat Hy van julle verwag. Mag Hy deur Jesus in ons lewe dinge doen waarop Hy trots kan wees. Aan Jesus behoort die eer en grootheid vir ewig en altyd. Amen.
22  My liewe vriende, ek vra julle baie mooi: neem tog asseblief die brief ernstig op, want dit is nie 'n lang brief nie. Ek het dit spesiaal geskryf om julle moed in te praat.
23 Julle het seker ook al gehoor dat ons geestelike broer Timoteus uit die tronk is. As hy nie te lank draai om hier by my uit te kom nie, sal ek saam met hom na julle toe kom.
24 Groete aan al die leiers en al die ander Christene. Die Christene wat van Italië af kom en hier by my is, stuur ook vir julle groete.
25 Mag God goed wees vir julle, meer as wat julle ooit verdien.

Hebrews 13

Final Exhortations

1 Brotherly love must continue.2 Do not neglect hospitality, because through it some have entertained angels without knowing it.s3 Remember those in prison as though you were in prison with them,t and those ill-treated as though you too felt their torment.t4 Marriage must be honored among all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers.5 Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”s6 So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, andsI will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”s7 Remember your leaders, who spoke God’s message to you; reflect on the outcome of their lives and imitate their faith.8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever!9 Do not be carried away by all sorts of strange teachings.t For it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not ritual meals,t which have never benefited those who participated in them.10 We have an altar that those who serve in the tabernacle have no right to eat from.11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood the high priest bringst into the sanctuary as an offering for sin are burned outside the camp.12 Therefore, to sanctify the people by his own blood, Jesus also suffered outside the camp.13 We must go out to him, then, outside the camp, bearing the abuse he experienced.t14 For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, acknowledging his name.

16 And do not neglect to do good and to share what you have,t for God is pleased with such sacrifices.
17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls and will give an account for their work.t Let them do thist with joy and not with complaints, for this would be no advantage for you.18 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to conduct ourselves rightly in every respect.

19 I especially ask you to prayt that I may be restored to you very soon.

Benediction and Conclusion

20 Now may the God of peace who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus Christ,

21 equip you with every good thing to do his will, working in uss what is pleasing before him through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever.s Amen.
22 Now I urge you, brothers and sisters,t bear with my message of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you briefly.23 You should know thatt our brother Timothy has been released. If he comes soon, he will be with me when I see you.t24 Greetings to all your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy send you greetings.
