四

1 とはいえ、だれでも、神様の用意された休息の地に入れるという約束は、今でも有効です。　ですから、あなたがたの中で、万一にも入りそこなう者が出ないように、警戒しようではありませんか。　2 なぜなら、モーセの時代の人たちと同様、私たちにも、救いをもたらす、すばらしい知らせが伝えられているからです。　ところが、モーセの時代の人たちには、この知らせは何の役にも立ちませんでした。　彼らは聞いても信じなかったからです。　3 休息の地に入れるのは、神様を信じる私たちだけです。　世の初めから、受け入れ態勢を整えて待っておられた神様は、「わたしは怒って誓う。　わたしを信じない者を決して入らせない」とも宣言されたのです。
4 私たちは、神様が準備万端ととのえて、待っておられることを知っています。　神様は創造の七日目に、計画どおりにすべてをなし終えて休まれた、と書いてあるからです。
5 にもかかわらず、彼らは閉め出されてしまいました。　神様がついに、「彼らを決してわたしの休息に入れない」と言われたからです。　6 しかし、休息の地への約束はまだ有効であり、中には、そこに入ることが許されている人もいます。　それは、不従順のため、最初に与えられた機会を失った人たちではありません。
7 しかし神様は、新しい機会を与えてくださいました。　それが今なのです。　最初の人たちの失敗の後、長い年月が過ぎたころ、神様はダビデ王を通して、このことを知らせてくださいました。　すでに引用したように、「今日、語りかけてくださる神様の声を聞いたら、心をかたくなにしてはいけない」と。
8 ここでの新しい休息の地とは、ヨシュアに率いられて入った、パレスチナの地ではありません。　もしそうなら、ずっとあとになって、今日がそこに入る時だ、などと言われるはずがないからです。　9 そういうわけで、完全な休息が、今なお、神様を信じる人たちを待ち受けているのです。　10 キリスト様は、もうすでに、そこにお入りになりました。　神様が創造の働きを終えて休まれたように、キリスト様も、任務を果たして、今はゆっくり休んでおられるのです。　11 ですから私たちも、この休息の地に入れるように、最善を尽くしましょう。　イスラエルの人たちが、神様に不従順であったために、入りそこねたことを肝に銘じて、くれぐれも注意しようではありませんか。
12 神様のことばは生きていて、力にあふれています。　それは、鋭い刃物みたいに切れ味がよく、心の奥深くに潜んでいる思いや欲望にまでメスを入れ、私たちの赤裸々な姿をさらけ出します。　13 神様はすべての人の心を、その人がどこにいようと、探り知るお方です。神様に造られたもので、その目から隠れおおせるものは、一つもありません。　今も生きて、すべてを見抜かれる神様の前に、裸のままさらけ出されているのです。　私たちはこの方に対して、自分のした、いっさいのことを、弁明しなければなりません。
14 しかし、私たちを助けるために、天にのぼられた偉大な大祭司、神の子イエス様が味方です。　ですから、イエス様への信仰を、決して失うことがありませんように。　15 この大祭司は、私たちと同じ試練に会われたので、人間の弱さをよく知っておられます。　しかしただの一度も、誘惑に負けて罪を犯したことはありません。　16 ですから、躊躇せず、思いきって、神の王座に近づいてあわれみを請い、必要な時に必ず与えられる恵みを、いただこうではありませんか。

Hebrews 4

1 Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.2 For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because it was not united by faith with them that heard.3 For we who have believed do enter into that rest; even as he hath said, As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.4 For he hath said somewhere of the seventh day on this wise, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;5 and in this place again, They shall not enter into my rest.

6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some should enter thereinto, and they to whom the good tidings were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,7 he again defineth a certain day, To-day, saying in David so long a time afterward (even as hath been said before), To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts.

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.9 There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.10 For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.11 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.12 For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.13 And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.14 Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.15 For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.16 Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need.
