HEBREËRS 5

1  tWANT elke hoëpriester wat uit die mense geneem word, tree ten behoewe van mense op tin die dinge wat in betrekking tot God staan, tom gawes en offers vir die sondes te bring

2  tas een wat kan saamvoel met die onwetendes en dwalendes, omdat hy self ook tmet swakheid bevange is.

3 En daarom juis moet hy, tnet soos vir die volk, so ook vir homself vanweë die sondes offer.

4 En tniemand neem die waardigheid vir homself nie, maar hy wat deur God geroep word, tnet soos Aäron.

5 So het Christus ook tHomself nie verheerlik om Hoëpriester te word nie, maar Hý het Hom verheerlik wat vir Hom gesê het: tU is my Seun, vandag het Ek U gegenereer.

6 Soos Hy ook op ’n ander plek sê: tU is priester vir ewig volgens die orde van Melgisédek.

7 Hy wat in die dae van sy vlees tgebede en smekinge met tsterk geroep en trane aan Hóm geoffer het wat Hom tuit die dood kon red, en ook verhoor is uit die angs —

8 Hy, al was Hy tdie Seun, het tgehoorsaamheid geleer uit wat Hy gely het;

9 en tnadat Hy volmaak is, het Hy vir almal wat Hom gehoorsaam is, Hebr. 2:10’n bewerker van ewige saligheid geword

10 en is deur God genoem t’n hoëpriester volgens die orde van Melgisédek;

11 waaroor ons veel te sê het wat tswaar is om te verklaar, omdat julle traag geword het om te hoor.

12 Want hoewel julle vanweë die tyd leraars behoort te wees, het julle weer nodig dat ’n mens julle tdie eerste beginsels van tdie woorde van God moet leer, en julle het weer behoefte aan tmelk en nie aan vaste spys nie.

13 Want elkeen wat melk gebruik, is onervare in die woord van geregtigheid, omdat hy ’n kind is.
14 Maar vaste spys is vir volwassenes, vir die wat geestesvermoëns besit deur die gewoonte geoefen, om goed van kwaad te onderskei.

Hebrews 5

1 For every high priest, being taken from among men, is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.2 The high priest can deal gently with those who are ignorant and going astray, because he himself is also surrounded with weakness.3 Because of this, he must offer sacrifices for sins for the people, as well as for himself.4 Nobody takes this honor on himself, but he is called by God, just like Aaron was.

5 So also Christ didn’t glorify himself to be made a high priest, but it was he who said to him,

“You are my Son.
Today I have become your father.”t

6 As he says also in another place,

“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”t
7 He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,8 though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered.9 Having been made perfect, he became to all of those who obey him the author of eternal salvation,10 named by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.11 About him we have many words to say, and hard to interpret, seeing you have become dull of hearing.12 For although by this time you should be teachers, you again need to have someone teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God. You have come to need milk, and not solid food.13 For everyone who lives on milk is not experienced in the word of righteousness, for he is a baby.

14 But solid food is for those who are full grown, who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil.
