1 Il sommo sacerdote giudeo è soltanto un essere umano, ma viene scelto per intervenire in favore degli uomini nelle loro relazioni con Dio.2-3 Il sommo sacerdote presenta al Signore i loro doni, e gli offre il sangue degli animali sacrificati per lavare i suoi peccati e quelli del popolo.
Essendo uomo, è in grado di sentire compassione per quelli che sono ignoranti e lontani da Dio, perché anche lui deve affrontare le stesse tentazioni.4 Altra cosa da ricordare è che nessuno può decidere da sé di diventare sommo sacerdote, ma dev’essere chiamato da Dio a questo compito, proprio come nel caso di Aronne.5 Ecco perché anche Gesù Cristo non si attribuì l’onore di essere sommo sacerdote, ma fu eletto da Dio, che gli disse: « Tu sei mio Figlio, oggi Io sono tuo padre ».6 E ancora: « Tu sei sacerdote in eterno, secondo l’ordine di Melchisedek ».7 Infatti, mentre era ancora qui sulla terra, Cristo rivolse preghiere e suppliche a Dio con grida e lacrime, perché soltanto lui poteva salvarlo dalla morte. Poiché Gesù gli era sempre stato fedele, Dio ascoltò le sue preghiere e lo liberò dalla paura della morte.8 Gesù, benché fosse figlio di Dio, imparò per esperienza, dalle proprie sofferenze, che cosa significasse obbedire.9 E dopo essere stato reso perfetto, egli è diventato sorgente di salvezza eterna per tutti quelli che gli ubbidiscono,10 perché Dio lo ha scelto come sommo sacerdote « secondo l’ordine di Melchisedek ».

« Mettetevi in grado di mangiare cibi solidi! »

11 Su questo argomento ci sarebbe molto da dire, ma è difficile, perché siete diventati duri a capire.12 Dovreste essere voi, che siete cristiani già da molto tempo, ad insegnare agli altri! Invece, avete fatto dei passi indietro ed avete di nuovo bisogno che qualcuno v’insegni i primi elementi della Parola di Dio. Siete come bambini che possono nutrirsi soltanto di latte, non di cibi solidi.13 E chi si nutre di latte è ancora un bambino nella fede, un bambino che non riesce ancora a distinguere il bene dal male!14 Non potrete mangiare cibi solidi spirituali, né capire le cose profonde della Parola di Dio finché non diventerete cristiani maturi e non imparerete a distinguere il vero dal falso, esercitandovi a fare il bene.

Hebrews 5

1 For every high priest, being taken from among men, is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:2 who can bear gently with the ignorant and erring, for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity;3 and by reason thereof is bound, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.4 And no man taketh the honor unto himself, but when he is called of God, even as was Aaron.5 So Christ also glorified not himself to be made a high priest, but he that spake unto him, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee:

6 as he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchizedek.

7 Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,8 though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered;9 and having been made perfect, he became unto all them that obey him the author of eternal salvation;10 named of God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard of interpretation, seeing ye are become dull of hearing.12 For when by reason of the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need again that some one teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food.13 For every one that partaketh of milk is without experience of the word of righteousness; for he is a babe.14 But solid food is for fullgrown men, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil.
