Hebreos 6

1 Por eso, dejando a un lado las enseñanzas elementales acerca de *Cristo, avancemos hacia la madurez. No volvamos a poner los fundamentos, tales como el *arrepentimiento de las obras que conducen a la muerte, la fe en Dios, 2 la instrucción sobre bautismos, la imposición de manos, la resurrección de los muertos y el juicio eterno. 3 Así procederemos, si Dios lo permite.
4 Es imposible que renueven su arrepentimiento aquellos que han sido una vez iluminados, que han saboreado el don celestial, que han tenido parte en el Espíritu Santo y que han experimentado la buena palabra de Dios y los poderes del mundo venidero, y después de todo esto se han apartado. Es imposible, porque así vuelven a crucificar, para su propio mal, al Hijo de Dios, y lo exponen a la vergüenza pública.
7 Cuando la tierra bebe la lluvia que con frecuencia cae sobre ella, y produce una buena cosecha para los que la cultivan, recibe bendición de Dios. 8 En cambio, cuando produce espinos y cardos, no vale nada; está a punto de ser maldecida, y acabará por ser quemada.
9 En cuanto a ustedes, queridos hermanos, aunque nos expresamos así, estamos seguros de que les espera lo mejor, es decir, lo que atañe a la salvación. 10 Porque Dios no es injusto como para olvidarse de las obras y del amor que, para su gloria,s ustedes han mostrado sirviendo a los *santos, como lo siguen haciendo. 11 Deseamos, sin embargo, que cada uno de ustedes siga mostrando ese mismo empeño hasta la realización final y completa de su esperanza. 12 No sean perezosos; más bien, imiten a quienes por su fe y paciencia heredan las promesas.

La certeza de la promesa de Dios

13 Cuando Dios hizo su promesa a Abraham, como no tenía a nadie superior por quien jurar, juró por sí mismo, 14 y dijo: «Te bendeciré en gran manera y multiplicaré tu descendencia.»s 15 Y así, después de esperar con paciencia, Abraham recibió lo que se le había prometido.
16 Los *seres humanos juran por alguien superior a ellos mismos, y el juramento, al confirmar lo que se ha dicho, pone punto final a toda discusión. 17 Por eso Dios, queriendo demostrar claramente a los herederos de la promesa que su propósito es inmutable, la confirmó con un juramento. 18 Lo hizo así para que, mediante la promesa y el juramento, que son dos realidades inmutables en las cuales es imposible que Dios mienta, tengamos un estímulo poderoso los que, buscando refugio, nos aferramos a la esperanza que está delante de nosotros. 19 Tenemos como firme y segura ancla del alma una esperanza que penetra hasta detrás de la cortina del *santuario, 20 hasta donde Jesús, el precursor, entró por nosotros, llegando a ser sumo sacerdote para siempre, según el orden de Melquisedec.

HEBREWS 6

1 We must try to become mature and start thinking about more than just the basic things we were taught about Christ. We shouldn't need to keep talking about why we ought to turn from deeds that bring death and why we ought to have faith in God. 2 And we shouldn't need to keep teaching about baptismst or about the laying on of handst or about people being raised from death and the future judgment.

3 Let's grow up, if God is willing.

4-6 But what about people who turn away after they have already seen the light and have received the gift from heaven and have shared in the Holy Spirit? What about those who turn away after they have received the good message of God and the powers of the future world? There is no way to bring them back. What they are doing is the same as nailing the Son of God to a cross and insulting him in public!
7 A field is useful to farmers, if there is enough rain to make good crops grow. In fact, God will bless such a field.

8 t But land that produces only thornbushes is worthless. It is likely to fall under God's curse, and in the end it will be set on fire.
9 My friends, we are talking this way. But we are sure that you are doing those really good things people do when they are being saved. 10 God is always fair. He will remember how you helped his people in the past and how you are still helping them. You belong to God, and he won't forget the love you have shown his people. 11 We wish each of you would always be eager to show how strong and lasting your hope really is.

12 Then you would never be lazy. You would be following the example of those who had faith and were patient until God kept his promise to them.

God's Promise Is Sure

18 God cannot tell lies! And so his promises and vows are two things that can never be changed.
We have run to God for safety. Now his promises should greatly encourage us to take hold of the hope that is right in front of us. 19 t This hope is like a firm and steady anchor for our souls. In fact, hope reaches behind the curtaint and into the most holy place. 20 t Jesus has gone there ahead of us, and he is our high priest forever, just like Melchizedek.t
